RIP Christophe Dominici, from Wales. I remember this game, it was pure magic. Cysga'n dawel.
RIP Dominici, what a sad loss. What a great winger he was.
He joined lomu for a paradise match
@@aurelien62760 oui , vous avez raison , même numéro et même destinée choisie pour l'un , subie pour l'autre ..............

Two hours in the morning and I'm still behind my TV, just for watching how good Dominici was. I remember that match as if it was yesterday. Rip little man, you were a giant.
Nice words
Thanks for all those magic rugby moments Christophe, from England supporter
Thanks England !
The greatest game ever and Christophe Dominici played a central role. We will miss you, buddy.
Yes....it was the greatest world cup match.
Best game I ever saw - maybe 2000 Bledisloe right behind it. LaMaison bossed this game beautifully. He was the unsung hero.
Yup...I was there and I concur.
Repos en paix Dominici. Un essai de légend.
A legend try. A match of legend.
Sans aucun doute l'un des plus beaux matchs de l'Histoire de la Coupe du Monde de Rugby à XV 🇨🇵 - With no doubt one of the most extraordinary matches of Rugby's World Cup History.
This is still one of the Rugby’s greatest ever game in Rugby Union and Rugby World Cup history. And the Greatest upset in Rugby World Cup history
This game reignited my interest in rugby and gave me inspiration when feeling down. I even watched it earlier this week, twice. RIP Dominici.
First time I watched this absolutely classic World Cup game in full, since 20 years ago here from South Africa. My family is from French decent so my second team is always France. The French were not lucky...they played sublimely in all facets of the game. They also managed to demoralised the All Blacks so that the Springboks got a Bronze medal. Viva la France!! Vive les Bleus!!
When you consider the 11 points left behind by Andrew merthens which’s had an Impact on The build to France’s last try I disagree
-
That's why I love South Africa 😌
Because there are some of my far away cousins.
Thanks dude. You are a huguenot ✊🏻
It's got to be the best world cup game ever. There are people who call some of it luck but the French rugby side of the 90s were the best example of how you make your own luck. They took risks and very often the risk paid off, That's not luck. ....BTW, I'm from NZ and it's just so fantastic to have rugby's greatest rivalry back to what it used to be. It got a bit too one sided for my liking over the last 8 to 10 years with the odd exception , but it's back now and I love it.
Just finished watching the whole game...thanks for the memories Dominici, merci
These to me were the golden days of the RWC, John Taylor and Steve Smith's commentary, baggy cotton shirts, games played all over the place, all very nostalgic
Rip Christophe
Thx for the memories
Arguably the most sensationally exciting international rugby Test of all time.
The match had everything didn't it (?), super heroes - amongst them the incomparable Jonah Lomu; the promise of a place in the grand final; the two teams with the most attacking flair across the rugby globe at the time; a glut of extraordinary 'finishers' the like of which we hadn't seen before, nor have we seen since - including the indefatigable Frenchman, Christophe Dominici.
Followers of rugby union across the world will be mourning the loss of 'one of our own', irrespective of which jersey we support. Dominici was special, not just to Les Bleus, but to all those who value running rugby at its best. RIP Christophe.
Oh please, this game is terrible. The All Blacks had a sudden identity crisis and put on a horrible performance that was almost saved by some super human stuff by Lomu. The coach and Mertens should've been banned from the sport after this mess.
@@makhabzaranamane6869 NZ seemed to freeze up and choke, but it still took a brilliant late surge from France, who were stunning for a while there as NZ fell apart...It was painful to watch for me as a Kiwi, but there can be no question that this was an incredibly thrilling game, especially being a WC semi final before a brilliant crowd that France had to come from behind late to win. Also consider that this is one of the biggest upset wins in rugby history - France were paying $10.00 to win with the NZ bookies... All of the ingredients were there...This is why everyone but you considers it a classic, and is widely considered one of the greatest games ever.....But you think it was "terrible"? Whatever it is that you're smoking I want some.
@@JimChap Especially the way the game went was also twice surprising... I was looking this match on french TV and at 24-10 for NZ, I was pretty sure all was lost. We had played NZ few weeks before the world cup, they had thrashed France with 50+ points, France was last of the 5N 1999 if I remembered well.
if it wasn't for lamaison and the french forwards, I do think that we would have lost. I think French won it more than ABs lost it. French aren't a constant team but when they want it, they can beat anyone on their day. After lomu try, France suddenly wanted to win. Lamaison made the right calls and urged France to wake up, Drop, drop, penalty, penalty, 2 precious kicks for Dominici and Dourthe try after a conquering french pack outrageously dominated the ABs. I think I have read after this match that several ABs player said that they effectively didn't understand what has happened, something like "suddenly French team arised and nobody were able to stop them". Oz was happy because they knew that french never did 2 following great match in World cup... and they had eliminated the favourite. I was pretty sure we wouldn't win the world cup cause on the paper, wallabies were a far better team than France and France was exhausted even more psychologically than physically. An exploit in the world cup and that's all.
It's so cool to think that we live in a time where Emille's son is still doing great things in a blue shirt. Allez les bleus!
What an extraordinary game! Such great spirit from the French!
I was so very lucky to be given 2 tickets from my work manager for appreciation for hard work. My friend and I started our day with so much anticipation and quite expected an emphatic win by the Kiwis.
Half time and what I personally thought was a forgone conclusion as the Kiwis were winning.
OMG! What on earth was my friend and I witnessing along with the sellout crowd?
Quite possibly the most incredible turnaround by France to reach the World Cup final.
I personally don’t think that in my lifetime, witness the best match I will ever see EVER!
I’m a complete ardent fanatical England fan, and to have been part of history in the most amazing match, will live with me until the day I die!
Just rewatched this game. Takes me right back to a bar in Dar es Salaam Tanzania. Small room packed out 30deg, for the 2-3 kiwis it was painful but we helped them commiserate as we pickled ourselves in sweat and cold beer - thankfully there were no power cuts. It was a fantastic David vs Goliath literally put Dominci next to Jona.
Dominici is dead 😢
@@kazuo59 So is Jonah dude, get it together.
Dominici had a great game, sure, but I considere Lamaison to be the MOM for this match... He did the french game, he permitted France to stay in the game and even to come back when NZ was leading 24-10. 2 drop goals, 2 penalties... he had put all the 1st 22 points of France... at 24-22 for NZ, all was possible for france but once again, Lamaison did the kicks which leaded to Dominici and Dourthe tries, milimetered kicks, what a vision of the game. Lamaison was a pure gem as 10. He did lead Brive club to european title and permitted France to arrive in final 1999. I do not understand why Lamaison is so clearly underrated. The best french N° 10 of the last 30 years, far better and more constant than Michalak IMHO. Let's hope that N'Tamack and Jalibert will be his successor :)
Absolutely. He was the architect of the All Blacks defeat in this match - about as good as it gets. Also kicked the loose ball downfield before Bernats-Salles scored that brilliant try as well (not Magne as called by the commentator)
Hear hear. He bossed this game really well, particularly when they came out in the second half. Michalak and Trinh-Duc weren’t this consistent. Is LaMaison still Les Blues’ top point scorer?
Dominici Absolutely brilliant, as said by commentator. Very sad for Christophe.
So french ! Beautiful !!!
From a Welsh ex-pat in the US. Greatest game I ever saw. RIP Christophe Dominici, this game made you immortal.
A great loss of a great player .RIP Christophe.
Thanks for the great memories Christophe,,, from Fiji
Worst Marseillaise ever but what a game. I remember watching it when my dog was born and I was trying to reanimate her sister/ brother with no success. Shed died four years ago and now Christophe is gone at nearly the same age as me. Guess I'm getting old but it's so sad. Take care folks always take care and love live rugby, the only team sports I care for. Cheers
magnificent match. I have seen it live and reviewed at least ten times. I will never tired of saying it ... the jersey shirts were beautiful and legendary
That was something special. Remember this gteat win by France.
France has got to be one of the unluckiest rugby nations. So many great team performances and definitely the best team to never win a World Cup
Yep, bad luck...and a Joubert..
Next world cup I can feel it😤🇫🇷
Maybe try ireland
@@paulinemockler3736Did Ireland play 3 world cup finals ???
Yes, we're the Netherlands of rugby. But one day, the first win will be celebrated for that reason ;)
Hopefully, let's hope there won't be a Joubert on the road..
A match made in Heaven, thank you France for an incredibly magnificent petformance. May God bless France. From a fan from Tonga in the South Pacific
With respect for Christophe great player. But Monsieur Lamaison winned the match !
@@ufaransa.2543 🎻
I personally believe considering the level of opposition Lamaison's performance in this match was one of the greatest in World Cup Rugby. He was nailing penalties and field goals and his generalship in play was outstanding.
The French spirit is the worst or the best of the best and when the best trumps the worst we are in heaven . You are in heaven Christophe !
I believe there is an old saying that goes: "The French are just like everyone else, only more so". I'm not French, but it seems fitting.
It's easy to forget how blurry TV used to be when you're used to High Definition. This video is "HD" but the source material isn't so it's blurry. A pity really because sports is where you really need HD.
Merci Domi x
The real highlight of this game (beside French indiscipline suddenly turning into sheer class, and NZ's scrambly panic-mode) is Garbajosa's (15 blue) hilarious tackling technique :
1:00:54 dodging Lomu like a matador (meanwhile blocking his 14 and mindgaming his 9) ; then softly pushing Lomu on the back so that hopefully the bull will turn back towards him in amazement instead of scoring
1:27:33 cutely holding Umanga's hand after he's broken through => prevents a sure try
I can't find again the 3d one I saw
also 1:30:42 Lamaison kicking the ball away and then whirling around without giving two hoots about what happens to it
Looking forward to watching more from these 2.
As a loyal All Blacks fan since 2003,
These All Blacks 91, 95 & 99 RWC failures or choking performances really hurt LOMU legacy & the 1990’s ABs team legacy too,
And the 1990’s ABs team was a talented team all round & they was great on paper but they can’t back it up in the 1990’s tho sadly 😞,
And congrats 👏 to Australia 🇦🇺 for knocking us out in the 1991 RWC, to South Africa 🇿🇦 for knocking us in the 1995 RWC & to France 🇫🇷 for knocking out us in 1999 RWC,
That why the best All Blacks team hands down is the 2010’s/2011-2015 team cause they go back to back & they are the only ones that do it so far,
And also that 2010’s ABs team hold the number 1 ranking through those years until they lose in 2019 to Ireland 🇮🇪 or Wales 🏴 I think 🤔.
1995 wasn't a NZ choke, it was a vomit
It would be nice to see the clock every once in awhile! It's the 2nd most important thing in the game next to the score! How much time do we have left? *_WHO KNOWS???!!!_*
Match encore magnifique de Dominici !
Et de lamaison
Still probably the best international I've ever seen. That "22 drop out" Wilson carried over in the first half looked very much like Magne got there as well!
Ciao Christophe, came to see your brilliance..ended up just being annoyed by the prat of a commentator. ;-(
Ah, that's nothing but rather brillant comments compared to the french commentator!

RIP monsieur Dominici.
That day Dominic and France defeated probably the most fired up All Black side ever. Full of world class players including the greatest player ever Johna ! Dominic and France weren’t going to be taken for granted.
I wasn't around to be a rugby fan back in the late 90s, but seeing the unstoppable thrust and advance from Lomu to score the first all blacks try illustrates to me why he is considered the greatest.
The greatest game ever played
ayaaaaaa
Hmmmm, it was definitely epic. But to rival the 1995 or 2019 finals..... not so sure about that...
PS Guess who I support XD+
Nah
@@Karma-qt4ji 1995 final ? You mean when the ABs were all druged ?
Rugby feast for me today .... Quel match !! now onto the 2007 game . I love watching NZ lose , it warms my heart . Then i'll probably watch the England /NZ semi final of the last world cup . It is quite mad to see how much the rules of the game have evolved ! Back in those days you could get away with so much more (high tackles, furious rucks etc...) which made for a much more thugish kind of game and an overall more combative spectacle . Anyway , France played a near perfect game and spanked the All Blacks , now that is something .
28:59 : that play from Dominici is much more impressive than the one when he scores later in the game. I mean... He escapes 4 tackles from the blacks ! Just brilliant !

R.I.P. Dominici. Respect from a Pumas fan.

When bookmakers give France at 26/1 versus NZ, the french defeat NZ with style and put the nose of the anglo-saxons bookmakers in them sh..eets....

“Nobody gives them much of a chance”. Perfect.
Yes actually it was from the bookmakers a 25 against 1 ..... 1 was France.... Everyone was saying even before thematch that they will fight all blaks in final....Which make french team get on fire.

Fantastic match. The test of the century.

Coupe du Monde 1999 France Nouvelle Zelande Demi finale
I think I've watched this game 10 or 15 times in the last 20 years, the same way I've seen some movies that I love many times. I nostalgia for this rugby, when the players really played rugby. When the 3/4 did not weigh 120 kg and they knew how to make passes, hooks and overflows. I am very often bored today watching a game. Rugby has become so boring.
That was a French team you needed eye protection to play. Eyes gouges are us.
Dominic R.I.P good game when rugby was a fast pace no collision intended sport
Dominici looked like a slalom skier! RIP
it amazes me how the rules have changed so much. That tackle on the all black would have been a penalty or yellow card offence in todays standards
wonder if they they going to show all the all black defeats. 2007 next maybe? or 95.
Just thought about it Wales screwed themselves over this world cup by not host the semi finals. England would never give Cardiff that same opportunity just quarter finals.
As an All black fan , France were deservedly winners at the end of the game

the other semifinal match was the real final in this WC..
1:10:11 how is this offside?
some dodgy refereeing decisions in there, just before 70 minutes, never offside, the referee was behind the play turned round then he was offside, but not offside when the ball was thrown. Little key moments like that can swing the momentum massively one way or the other.
And the new zealand 22 was actually a five meter scrum or a try
