oh wow really"?? Ricardo Montalban was your grandfather? Congrats, he was indeed a brilliant man and such a great actor and performer, and I'm astonish to learn now what a great dancer he was too.
It's an honor to meet the grandson of Ricardo Montalban! I hope you dance amazing like this too! It must be in your blood! Also love his voice so unique sounding! His voice is being used by a Character in Star Wars Show series called Clone War and Rebels! The actor based his voice on him! Such an honor and pleasure to meet you Brian! 👋
A delight to see Ricardo Montalban in such a scene; wonderfully talented and versatile, capable. The standard is so much more demanding in this era - no wonder we've been left with such eternal memories. Lovely moment; thank you, Ricardo and Cyd
Hi KT, Thanks so much for your kind comments! I've several others with these 2 wonders! Please, if you've time, view them on my site. Best wishes, varadero
This emotive, formative, and seductive dance number by Mr Ricardo Montalban and Ms Cyd Charisse in their 1948 MGM On An Island with You is doubtlessly dazzling and sizzling every which way.Under Mr Jack Donohue's gilt-edged dance supervision this sequence had entirely showcased the best-quality features of Mr Montalban's vitality-and-virility and Ms Charisse's capability-and-sensuality.Their formidable screen presence as dancing pair were authentically culminating, rejuvenating, and proliferating.Mr Fred Astaire's honest-to-goodness remark about Ms Cyd Charisse is sure-enough that when one danced with this beautiful dynamite,he stayed danced with her.And Mr Gene Kelly's clear-cut and good-humored illustration about her is something like this she looked like a woman who liked to shock priests with wicked confession. For me she's a sugary, leggy lady with a classy, silky savvy.Incidentally Mr Xavier Cugat and His Orchestra was part of this riveting-and-exciting number.
What can I say? Today is the 1st time I've ever seen your brilliant assesment of these 2 wondrous performers. First, I loved your review! Second, I hope you'll forgive me for what may have seemed a snub. I make it a point to try and respond, with few exceptions, to anyone who is courteous enough to write. Third, I'm delighted to hear from you! Thank you so much! varadero
For those who didn't know he could dance, he only danced in films from 1947 until 1951 when he fell off a horse on the set of a western movie and walked with a limp forever, but it didn't damage his acting career.
She was legendary with Fred Astaire , Gene Kelly and many many many many many many many many many other she was the girl that everyone wanted to dance with❤
He had to switch to acting and nothing else after injuring his back while making 'Across the Wide Missouri' a few years later. But he was a fine all-round athlete who continued to do many of his characters' stunts.
Cyd Charisse was just the most graceful, lovely dancer...not to mention how beautiful she was, as well! These two together were dancing poetry! Thanks for the post! 10+ stars & many, many more! Warmly, Red
Glad you said so! Gene and Cyd performed beautifully together in several productions! I'm a dance "nut!" One of my favorites with them is "Brigadoon!" I saw it on Broadway as a show, then later the movie with Cyd and Gene. In the film, they were perfection together! Thanks so much for writing!
Wow- just stumbled across this by chance. What an amazingly choreographed and charismatically performed dance with brilliant chemistry between the two. Thanks for uploading.
Talk about sex appeal - Cyd and Ricardo are oozing with it! From never having seen these two brilliant dancers dancing together, this is the second clip I have come across - thanks to you varadero1839
***** Hi Abbas Khan, Indeed she is! I've several showing these 2 brilliant, young performers dancing together. Please, if you have time, look for them! I'm grateful to hear from you! varadero
Hi George M, They should have starred in their own film together, but they were always considered a "specialty number!" Well, they were special, and here's some more links I've posted to prove it: ua-cam.com/video/imxqup1_G9Q/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/FP6dLWEcRKw/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/ThKlqAUyZ34/v-deo.html Hope you like these, and there are still a few more! +jusdubzzz I wanted to thank you for writing. Having seen Mr. M on Fantasy Island was always a treat for me. I say so because I'd been a big fan since his early days when he was a kind of "Idol" for many people. My mac tells me my mouse batteries are almost dead, so I'll try and cut to the chase. Please just visit my site, type in his name, and chances are he'll be coupled with his best pal, exquisite Cyd Charisse! I loved them both, and have tried to present their best performances. I'm really grateful to hear from you! Best regards, varadero
I'd wanted to reply directly to you, but your message seemed to get lost. Anyway, Cyd was kind of a goddess of dance, and her beauty was really unique! With her, there is no place to begin or end; it's as if she just appeared out of thin air and stole our collective hearts! Knowing performers, what I just said is probably a crock; I suspect she worked really hard! When the result is what we witness today I'm thinking it's all a dream: there she is, and we're all just worshipping at the shrine!
As the poster I have to agree with you! Both Fred and Gene were absolutely legendary as dancers! They were both at the top of their style when dancing with Cyd! Both you, o59, and BF are so astute. The only difference in the 3 dancers is that Ricardo, regardless of the particular dance medium, exuded a kind of sex appeal of which neither Fred or Gene could even aspire to! Cut to the chase, the other 2 were better dancers, but Ricardo was a talented, yet kindly "Macho!" dancer! Sex appeal counts!
What an amazing tribute! This is very thoughtful of you, and as the poster, I'm honored to hear from you! I'd be delighted to know your grandparents! I've a special place in my heart for Ms. Charisse, and Mr. Montalban, especially when they performed together! If you've some time, please look for the other clips where these 2 incredible performers are shown dancing together! Hint: check me out!
I believe it that those legs were a weapon❤ And her legs were also ensured for 48 million dollars.. no Hollywood star today even comes close. Dancing is vulgar and tasteless. This was poetry in motion Elegance with class and just the right amount of sensuality❤
Thanks Ms. Campos….I'm a big Cyd, and Ricardo fan. I've posted quite a few with them. The one I'm sending is very grainy, except for the closeups. It was from a very old VHS tape. I hope you'll like it! ua-cam.com/video/FP6dLWEcRKw/v-deo.html Best wishes, varadero
Charming and sinuous dance. As Stephan said very properly, class and sensuality got hand in hand in it. Both shall be missed very much. Thanks for posting, my friend.
+Eliezer Pennywhistler I think he meant that her legs were so long they just kept on coming and what followed was well worth the waiting for, like reading a good book..
Thanks! This is from "An Island with You!" Pretty sure it was from 1948. We see many noteworthy performers, including the stars Jimmy Durante, Esther Williams and more. I'm grateful that you liked this! There are those who would make a "Reader's Digest" of some of my uploaded videos; especially of these two stunning stars! I'm in your debt for your question, and Ricardo indeed "is smoking'!
Hola Mr. Saldana, I'm really honored to hear back from you so soon! I think I have between 4-5 other vids where they're so amazing together! Never was a breath of scandal between them, but they stayed friends for years! Ricardo was a "for-real" Catholic, and don't think he'd have ever strayed. Two of the most beautiful people, and so talented! Thanks again! varadero
Thanks so much for your comment! I posted this and many others; think I’ve 3 more where they’re dancing together. Please check them out on my site. Thanks for writing!
Wow I originally came here because I was told this movie was filmed in my area but now that am here and watch the clip I now understand why I always thought Recardo out shined Willam Shatner in that one Classic star treck. He was on a higher level. I guess I was too young to know that Ricardo was more than a Clingon or an ordinary day time tv actor who did comericals on the side. I am honestly impressed. I am actually sort of embaressed for modern actors that receive Oscars. The standards are not the same.
Hi Tampa0123456789, I can't tell you how beautiful your words are to me! I'm especially fascinated by individuals who are surprised by the talents of Mr. Montalban! His talents were really amazing. Many people only remember his fine acting performances in "Star Trek," etc. He was so much more! Though he was the 1st to admit he wasn't a great dancer, his acting and singing got him through. Given what goes on in Hollywood, I've never heard even 1 person say anything bad about RM! He was really loved! If you've some free time, please view my channel; if you like Ricardo, you'll really be happy! Thanks for writing!
varadero1839 Yes I will definitely subscribe. I am just completely amazed. I remember as a kid me and others use to always joke that there was something odd about Ricardo in the roles we saw him in. Sort of like if you saw the Queen working as a waitertress. I guess all of our hunches were right after all. He was over qualified for the comericals and sitcoms he did.
Tampa0123456789 And the most amazing fact is this: Ricardo was not a dancer at all when he arrived to Hollywood. He took the challenge to learn how to dance just three or four years before he filmed this scene. He was an athlete, and had some experience as bullfighter back in México.
@brianmontalban Hi Brian, since I posted this, I've put up others by your "gramps!" Please, when you have time, check them out. All I can say is that I wish I had even 1/4 of his artistry in my ancestry! Hope you don't mind the intrusion, but this message came to me. Best to you!
I dishonor myself! Please forgive me, and if I've answered this on a different media, forgive that too! This is from "On an Island With You," from 1948. The 2 stars here are Ricardo Montalban and Cyd Charisse. They stayed best friends until his death. At a Latino Awards ceremony she pushed him onstage in his wheelchair! Think YT has removed it, but it's worth a try to look for it! Thanks so much for writing!
@cloudidogz Though they were both happily married to others, it seems like they were "meant" to be as a couple! Maybe only dancing together, but they remained friends for the balance of their lives. Thanks so much for your notice!!
It's a little "WW II," meets "Hollywood Hussy!" Cyd could have worked in a burlap bag, and still made it look exotic! Aside from her incredible beauty, and knowledge of the dance, she just had that certain "something" that set her apart, and high above so many others! Great to hear from you!
@frigginirishloons Watching the 2 of them is like a dance dream come true. I've never been familiar with the melody associated with this performance. Who cares? These two could dance to "Who's Afraid of The Big Bad Wolf" and make it seem like a classic! Thanks for your mention!
Funny how Cyd and Montalban were both cast often as sexy lowlifes, when by Hollywood standards each led private lives of exemplary decorum. Ricardo was an immensely generous man who became a Papal knight of St Gregory.
You're welcome! Have to chime along with you about the lack of "real" talent in today's productions. Fortunately, there are a handful of incredibly well-trained performers today who can still do it all; the keyword being "handful." Once more, grateful for your kind notice!
Cyd was such a talented and beautiful dancer with pretty acrobatic (walk-over and split) with a good deal of ballet skills which show so well as she was well trained and obviously worked hard at it. Much credit for Ricardo's dancing skills which are rather new to me by seeing this video and a couple others recently. Good choice video!
Apparently he never really had much training in ballet or any other dance form. Later he sustained some terrible injuries that left him wheel-chair bound, but here he was in all his youthful glory! He's reported to have said that the Hollywood coaches gave him some tips, but the bulk of his dancing abilities came from his partner, Cyd. They remained friends throughout their lives. At one point he was to receive a "Nosotros" award, and Cyd literally pushed him out in his wheelchair to accept!
@brianmontalban actually he did have lessons. But for the life of me I can't remember which director had him take them, but even then. yes, I guess he took to it pretty naturally.
Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly may have been better dancers, but Ricardo Montalban was definitely Cyd Charisse's best dance partner. In his younger days he was just gorgeous. They were both just gorgeous.
Oh, I love Brigadoon! Must have been amazing on Broadway... I was thinking that Cyd had at least one number in "An American in Paris," but it's not showing up on IMDb. Perhaps I'm thinking of another film? I only recently really discovered Rita Hayworth - she was wonderful. Thinking of Gene Kelly reminded me. ;)
I thought American in Paris was a different Ballet dancer. Can't think of her name, she was in "Lily" I think it called? She was running away going to kill herself but instead ended up helping the puppeteer in a circus show.
Glad to hear from you again! Was that your mention of "Plaza del Sol?" Please forgive me; I'm easily confused these days and I try to commit too much to memory. Guess that's not such a good idea. Hollywood provided us with some amazing performers, but Cyd was still ahead of the rest. Be well, and keep looking for Cyd clips! They're all so incredible.
@debbiechickie5 From what i know he never had professional lessons, just came naturally to him i guess. Sorry it took so long for me to reply, i dont check my account too often :P
+Beautifulstar24 Hi, This is from a film called "On an Island With You," from 1948. I'm a big fan of both of these performers. If you've some free time, please view them on my channel! Thank you for writing! I'm grateful to hear from you. varadero
shin meiji Let's clear this up right now. The film was released in 1948. I was born in 1945. At the time of this film I was 3 years old. Cyd was 26 years old. Do the math! Always happy to hear from you, and thanks for your reply!
+varadero1839 I love this clip btw. We don't have this kind of talent anymore. These actors made a living doing what they did. Now everything is cafeteria style with not much substance or cgi.
That's my gramps! My favorite of his dance numbers, great choreography. He sure was the ladies man! Rest in peace grandpa
oh wow really"?? Ricardo Montalban was your grandfather? Congrats, he was indeed a brilliant man and such a great actor and performer, and I'm astonish to learn now what a great dancer he was too.
Your father was amazing, a great actor and dancer.
It's an honor to meet the grandson of Ricardo Montalban! I hope you dance amazing like this too! It must be in your blood! Also love his voice so unique sounding! Yeah , right !
This is just amazing. Just truly amazing. What a wonderful man. I would have enjoyed meeting such a man. Glad you got to have him in your life.
A delight to see Ricardo Montalban in such a scene; wonderfully talented and versatile, capable.
The standard is so much more demanding in this era - no wonder we've been left with such eternal memories.

My mother used to drool over Roicardo Montablban dancing. That's how I first knew him. Of course, then came Star Trek (KHAN!!!!). Great actor.
Сид Чарисс красавица и просто богиня.

Charming and sinuous dance. As Stephan said very properly, class and sensuality got hand in hand in it. Both shall be missed very much. Thanks for posting, my friend.
In his younger days? No offense, but Ricardo Montalban was gorgeous til the day he died!
This is much seiner than todays videoclips
I think a quote from Gene Kelly about Cyd Charisse was......'she came at you in installments'. Lovely woman....
+Sue Harvey What does that mean?
+Eliezer Pennywhistler I think he meant that her legs were so long they just kept on coming and what followed was well worth the waiting for, like reading a good book..
It's a riff on the noir and gangster genres.
Fred Astaire said of his experiences of dancing with Cyd Charisse,”when you danced with Cyd,you stayed danced”!
Wowser!!! I’ve never seen this movie before.
I don’t know how that’s possible but it is!
Great performance by Cyd Charisse and Ricardo Montalban!.

La época cuando las mujeres eran no sólo grandes artistas sino además, damas respetables, hoy todo lo que hay son petarditas.
So did Fantasy Island have a ballroom? I don't recall ever seeing Ricardo Montalban dance! Cyd? Definitely! I need to investigate more musicals!

A masterpiece
Two of the best in the business! Thanks for writing!
WGNJMNFAS 🎉🎉🎉 Daddy alert. Hispanic culture...Cyd and Ricardo. Daddy, too. WGNJMNFAS
What is the title of the movie that this clip was taken from?
This is from “On an island With you”, 1948. Thanks for writing!
oh, oh 👍😌
Oh, I love Brigadoon! Must have been amazing on Broadway... I was thinking that Cyd had at least one number in "An American in Paris," but it's not showing up on IMDb. Perhaps I'm thinking of another film? I only recently really discovered Rita Hayworth - she was wonderful. Thinking of Gene Kelly reminded me. ;)
I thought American in Paris was a different Ballet dancer. Can't think of her name, she was in "Lily" I think it called? She was running away going to kill herself but instead ended up helping the puppeteer in a circus show.
I believe Cyd was in a scene with Gene Kelly in Singing in the Rain. A type of "ganster" night club scene.
Leslie Caron that's who I'm thinking of
Glad to hear from you again!
She had the best legs in show biz.
Is Ricardo Montalban doing ballet steps? Now that is some serious "secure in your masculinity"!
Witty!
!Khan! what are you doing???
😨😵😱 woow!!
Hi Carlos Ramirez,
Think I have 3 or 4 more with this beautiful couple. Please look at them on varadero 1839!

Cyd Charisse is the aunt of another star trek actor nana visitor
can someone please tell me what this is from?
@debbiechickie5 From what i know he never had professional lessons, just came naturally to him i guess. Sorry it took so long for me to reply, i dont check my account too often :P
What movie is this from? Very sexy number.
+Beautifulstar24 Hi,
This is from a film called "On an Island With You," from 1948. I'm a big fan of both of these performers. If you've some free time, please view them on my channel! Thank you for writing! I'm grateful to hear from you.
varadero
how old is she?
This was released in 1948. That would have made lovely Cyd 26 years old! Hope you enjoyed this! Best wishes.
varadero
varadero1839 oh really. same age! i think she is older than me. thanks varadero
shin meiji Let's clear this up right now. The film was released in 1948. I was born in 1945. At the time of this film I was 3 years old. Cyd was 26 years old. Do the math! Always happy to hear from you, and thanks for your reply!
+varadero1839 To make it even more clear, Cyd died in 2008 at age 86.
+varadero1839 I love this clip btw. We don't have this kind of talent anymore. These actors made a living doing what they did. Now everything is cafeteria style with not much substance or cgi.
Khan
they danced really well but i don't like her clothes, the colors don't fit well together.
