Of course you couldn't pass on the opportunity to talk about a new version of Two-Face.😅 I didn't even know Nocturna was even a thing before this show, would be surprised to see her return to the comics.
Penguin and Harley were pretty much two sides of the same coin when it comes to changing a character in the wrong way: On the one side, changing Oswald didn't add anything new to the character of the Penguin that couldn’t also have been added to the og design and nothing actually interesting is done with the new design. Additionally, the reason for doing so is also stupid: Batman has few female rogues!? Seriously!??! Why not just pick from the plethora of female villains that Batman has had for nearly 100 years of existence and just go from there!? Give them an update!! There are more vixens than Ivy, Cat Woman, Harly, and Talia y'know... On the other side is Harley, who is now so drastically different from her original design as "the Joker's sidekick" that she might have as well have been a different character. Heck, if they turned her into a female Hugo Strange (considering that's what she already is functionally), a Helga Strange if you will, I think it would've been actually interesting. But no, instead, we have Harley who is just a checklist of _muh diversity_ boxes who, again, is so drastically different from her original design that she isn't even the same character.
One interesting thing they did add to the penguin was giving the character children. Unfortunately they didn’t really do much with it aside from just showing the audience how evil the character was but it could be an interesting thing other media could explore in the future
@motorwayt-s628 I feel like that's just there to reference that one comic where the Penguin _does_ have kids and is trying to survive their betrayal...
Very surreal seeing you pop back up. Your videos were a big reason I got into reading the comics and the Arkham patient videos are what pushed me into finally doing voice over stuff on my own. So, Thank You
Penguin to me was basically the TV show Gotham’s version of Cobblepot flipped on its head, and then I remembered that she shares more in common with that show’s version of Fish Mooney… just something to think about
The Clayface episode was my favorite. That was the one they should kept as a blueprint for the rest of the show. I didn't dislike the res and was fine with the changes but, overall, it was pretty middle of the road too o me.
Great video. I agree with alot with what you said. I didn't mind penguin to be pretty good. I love the umbrella usage. It's been to long since penguin has felt comic booky
I’m had a feeling you would return just for the Clayface episode! Easily the best episode in the show and I wouldn’t mind seeing more Clayface adaptations like this one Definitely agree about the Nocturna episode being the most like BTAS. I think it has to do with Bruce Wayne acting more in line with his character and the carnival setting
Number 9, nooooo *T_T* Seriously, I know that back in 2007, my man Kevin Smith once said that Ono wouldn't work in live action for the reasons you listed, but about 10 years after this original take, he changed his mind and gave his idea about how he could actually work. Lemme look for the exact quote... ... there it is! get ready for a long quote => “I’ve figured out a way to do it that is kinda bad-ass and also connects to comics more or less. So instead of just doing the actual sound - which to me, in the real world, would be like the dude from Police Academy making noises with his mouth - he’ll just have little cards. Business cards that have typewritten words of whatever the f---. So instead of him saying ‘blam’, you’d find this card on your desk and turn around and ‘blam’, he’d shoot you and stuff like that. Which I think is a little more chilly, you know, for doing it in live action. “On a comic book page, those big word balloons with a tiny word in it were so f---ing sweet. It looks beautifully graphic, like, at the same time it creates an image of ‘this is weird’. But I don’t know if audibly making noises would ever work in the real world, so I think those cards would be bad-ass, man. So [you read] ‘slit’, and you’re like 'slit?', and then all of a sudden you turn around he cuts your f---ing throat and dude just cocks his head Michael Myers style and watches you go down."
@@randallflagg3700 The problem with this take is that this makes for a very limited usage of Onomatopoeia's gimmick. Like, how many times do you have the chance to have someone find a card (or anything else) written somewhere and then Ono surprise jump on them? It's also very divorced from Ono, since he is more of an action character, while this gives more the vibes of a secret serial killer. It would work for a Nolan-esque take on the character (I can imagine someone finding a card with the word "Boom", the realization setting in in their eyes, and the next shot being the building exploding), but I wouldn't want that for a recurring villain. Honestly, I think Kevin Smith is just flat out wrong on this one. He is so worried about how "silly" could Onomatopoeia possibly be portrayed outside comics that he ends up exaggerating it in his head and only imagining bad portrayals. Ono in CC, for example, is perfectly fine. His use of onomatopoeias makes his scenes really entertaining without making the character appear ridiculous (to the point that my biggest grip with it is that they actually hold back from Ono mimicking sounds during his fight with Batman, almost as if they were afraid that he would look too dumb, instead it just ends up feeling jarringly inconsistent in the use of his gimmick). Instead of coming off as silly, he comes off as just "a rogue with a gimmick" as fitting for a superhero cartoon, not any less silly than Ventriloquist having a puppet that bosses people around or Penguin using birds to commit his crimes.
Glad you’re back Mr. rogues and great ranking of Batman villains of Batman: Caped Crusader. For the show and the villains for my opinion, I can see why it was lacking some parts to it but not bad though I give a 8 out of 10 of the series and some of the villains, personality and design.

I say I like gentlemen ghost's redesign, as according to his backstory he was a wealthy man of the revolution, but his gambling addiction got the better of him and blamed democracy, becoming a highwayman that took the riches for himself before being caught and hanged. Though one critique with the design I have is that I wish they'd do more with the ghost aesthetic, rather than just him looking like a highwayman with a blue filter around him Also this series further cements that two face and clayface are my favorite villains
I find this show's version of Harley Quinn to be kinda creepy and in season 2 I would love to see not only how she comes back but also because of the glimpse of the joker was shown in the end of season 1 of the series I would love to see how the joker meets Harley Quinn. Also I would like to see Hugo Strange in season 2 of this series.
1:20 I think if they did something like spider verse where we actually could see the onomatopoeia on the screen like a comic, he would work really well. But in anything else, it just doesn’t hit the same.
ngl, I just love Onomatopoeia representation, and honestly if they had to portray him, a guy using onomatopoeia to order his minions is probably the best idea.
I'm actually a big fan of Nocturna from the comics and think she is easily Batman's most underrated love interest. Her entire Pre-Crisis saga was great in my opinion.
@@Victor-qx3vx That's certainly understandable. I always thought Natalia Knight had a lot of potential though and was more interesting than Pre-Crisis Selina Kyle.
Hopefully we get more new villains in Season 2 of Caped Crusader. We already got foreshadowed that one certain villain who's gonna be appearing next season, but wonder who could also show up next season. 1) The Riddler 2) Scarecrow 3) Mad Hatter 4) Maxie Zeus 5) Black Mask 6) The Ventriloquist 7) Catman 8) Cavalier 9) Clock King
I’d love to see Maxie Zeus and Riddler and Black Mask on this show. What I want the most though is for Nocturna to return with Scarecrow as her doctor/mentor in an adaptation of “Mistress of Fear”.
I have a theory that Black Mask will be one of the main villains in season 2, with him being one who takes Thorne's place as Gotham new crime boss (representing the fall of the mobsters and the rise of the masked villains). From that point, the show could do an adaptation of Bruce Wayne Murderer?, with season 2 ending with Black Mask framing Bruce for a murder and causing the billionaire to be arrest. Then season 3 could adapt Bruce Wayne Fugitive storyline, with Bruce escaping from prision. Much like in the comic, Bruce wouldn't try to clean his name, choosing to no longer be Bruce Wayne, beliving that it was this identity that caused his so much trouble and that he should go back to be the dark brooding vigilante he was at the beginning of this season. However, as he meets people he helped as Bruce Wayne in season 2, seeing that he did made a difference in their lifes, he comes to find a new value in his other identity, accepting that being Bruce Wayne matters just as much as being Batman. They are both key parts of who he is. This could build to a big showdown between Batman and the Black Mask gang, with the dark knight winning by taking off the villain's mask, causing Sionis to freak out (kind like Rorschach from Watchmen), showing how Sionis has become addicted to the use of mask to make him feel powerful (basically turning him into a reflection of what Batman could become he didn't find the balance between his two identities).
Gentleman ghost is the villain I've given the most thought upon in this series. Like on one hand I agree that it will likely not have any real impact on how media will portray him going forward, and I don't think it should as GG's more comic accurate mannerisms and design are absolutely superior. On the other hand I am rather intrigued with the alternate route they took. Like it'd never wanna see proper gentlemen ghost be lowly enough to have these bigoted habits, but seeing a racist classist villain that isn't just taken man handled for a positive message and can legitimately Kill you on a flip of his ill tempered mood is something I don't see as often. It makes it feel all more wrong that Bruce/batman is given leeway for all the wrong reasons due to Craddocks twisted personal code. Him not having a general scheme in mind does remind me of how ghost stories usually work, they're creatures of habit often too stubborn to stop doing what they did in life, and being spiteful with those trying to change things until someone puts the haunting to an end.
Well thank you for returning. I was hoping to see something from you before watching the new show. Now I won't have crazy high expectations. 😊 I really hold your opinion in high regards.
Welcome back, Mr.Rogues! I personally enjoy Caped Crusader takes on the rogues. Some of them are not that complex compare to the BTAS but still were fun antagonists, having differences with the comics and other adaptations but still keeping some of their core aspects and feel some of them can still grow in the following seasons. One aspect I really like about the villains in this show is how, despite not being tragic figures we saw in BTAS, most them are still showed as dark reflections of Batman and his arc through the season. All them are flawed individuals driven by their personal desires (yes, Batman is a crimefighter but at the beginning he's cleary driven by desire of vengence than helping people). What separates Batman from his rogues is that Bruce learns from his mistakes and becomes more empathetic and a better person. Meanwhile the villains are sturbbon, refusing to change their ways until they suffer the consequences of their actions
Its great to see you again. Youre my favorite Batman youtuber. As big a fan as I am, I actually had no real desire to check this show out and I still feel no desire too do so
I disagree with the female penguin, I think the point is that penguin is one of the most cruel batman villains, and making him female in the show brought a new level of cruelty, with her murdering her own son with no remose, it would have been less impact full if it was a father/son imo
Opinions seem to be really split on Caped Crusader as a whole. Though rather refreshingly, they aren't going to complete extremes outside of the usual grifter garbage. And the reimagining of the villains definitely seem to be sticking point for many. Some enjoying these very different takes on classic rogues, others finding them off putting or pointing out other villains they could have used instead. I admit, not the using the likes of Dr Death or the Mad Monk definitely feels like a missed opportunity here. Still, these versions are certainly memorable at least. And having Bruce Timm on board, the guy who helped define what are arguably the most iconic incarnations of many of them, does help create this sense of earnestness. That this isn't a case of not caring for the source material but actively trying to experiment with it. Whether said experimentation works is really up to one's own tastes. But hey, it got Mr Rogues out of retirement for another video. I would said that makes it all worth it.
@@lokimiguel2452 You can say the same about TellTale villains and The Batman 2004 villains. You can't criticize a show reimagining villains when that's the whole point of it. What you can do is criticize the remaiginings for being boring/badly-executed/etc., but you can't criticize it as a whole just for the sake of it.
A Two Face who started Bad and turns Good (with the scarred side representing that instead of the bad) sounds more like something that would happen on an Earth-Three version. While I'm glad Harley's wearing the jester look again (even though it's not the right colors), in my humble opinion, her being a some kind of mind manipulator just doesn't work for me. She's no Scarecrow or Hugo Strange. I prefer her (ironically) more like the Joker, an agent of chaos. And MY GOD! WHO APPROVED OF MAKING PENGUIN A WOMAN?! 🤮
It is great to see you back, Mr Rogues. I have only watched 2 episodes and a few clips from the other episodes, and personally, I think the series is ok. The best villain, in my opinion, is Clayface. He was faithful to the golden age version, and I love how his design is a mix of o his classic design and the shadow. However, most of the changes just felt like changes for the sake of it, and most of the rogues were underdeveloped.
Nice to see someone objectively critique this show without letting their politics get in the way of the review (and I mean both treating it like the spawn of satan and by treating it like the best thing since slices bread )
I think Tim’s reason for switching Penguin’s gender was because “there aren’t enough notable female bat villains” which yeah he’s right aside from the main 3 plus you could argue Talia but he should’ve done what he did best in the animated series and repurpose a lesser known one like Orca or Sophia Falcone. Both of those would’ve fit the role of Penguin well. Yeah you’d have to rework orca to make her work but you could’ve easily just renamed Oswalda Cobblepot to Grace Balin and changed a few names and the umbrella gimmick out and you’d be fine. The Penguin having adult children is an interesting choice, they don’t do that much with it aside from showing how evil the character is but it could be an interesting thing to explore in the future. Also I think you could honestly put Flass and Bolluk on this list. Thorn too
Agreed. Even Harley (even though I like her) I think could have been replaced by Alyce Sinner. She is an interesting character with lots of potential whom I’ve only seen in one story.
@@Victor-qx3vxI honestly had no idea who that character was until now but I agree. I like that they used Harley’s psychiatrist background in this version a lot too and I think it’s something they should do more with just maybe in a different way
I think Penguin's children popped up in the comics only very recently in his miniseries when this show was still in development, so switching character's gender does make sense in a way, like it makes her look like this penguin momma who treats her offspring harshly like actual penguins probably do. This change is pretty unsubstantial, but I can accept it, since even the comic-accurate Pengy wouldn't have left much of an impact anyway with 1 episode to his name. Also people who trashed the show just beacuse of said change...well, they're beyond saving anyway.
@@motorwayt-s628Bruce Timm seem to forgot the original female villians he made like Roxy Rocket, Baby Doll, Red Claw, The Phantasm, Inque. He could have just made original ones again.

Welcome back, Mr Rogues.
Here's my ranking of the villains
1. Gentleman Ghost
2. Nocturna
3. Clayface
4. Harley Quinn
5. Firebug
6. Two-Face
7. Catwoman
8. Penguin
9. Onomatopoeia
You nailed my "Bottom 3" which means it doesn't matter what the rest of the ranking is, you have automatically my approval.
One of my favourite UA-camrs has returned!
Welcome back. It feels great and exciting to have you come back for a new video.

He Has Cometh From The Abyss Of Retirement To Enlighten Us Of His Mindset!!!
Its awesome to see you again!!!! I hope you do a villain rank with my adventures with superman
Man I discovered your channel like a year ago and watched every single one of your videos, glad to see you returning
He’s back.
Flass, Bullock and Rupert Thorne were important villains in this series too. Glad to hear from you Rogues. Hope you are doing great and. ....Be well.
Glad to have you back even if only for one more video.
Well thank you for returning. I was hoping to see something from you before watching the new show. Now I won't have crazy high expectations. 😊 I really hold your opinion in high regards.
So glad you're back!
If the show was based off the golden age of Batman then Penguin being a woman makes even less sense
Cope
We missed you hope you’re enjoying life man
I think it has potential so I really hope season 2 improves on the issues
As big a fan as I am, I actually had no real desire to check this show out and I still feel no desire too do so
YESSSSSSSSSS HES BACK. WHERE YOU BEEN????????????????????
When the entire world needed him the most, he was there
It was awesome hearing from you again!! And i agree with pretty much everything you said. Thanks
Welcome back man, glad to see you again.
Welcome back rogues old buddy!!!
I enjoy batman caped crusader and I'm looking forward for season 2
Glad to have you back
I disagree with the female penguin, I think the point is that penguin is one of the most cruel batman villains, and making him female in the show brought a new level of cruelty, with her murdering her own son with no remose, it would have been less impact full if it was a father/son imo
The point of the Penguin is that Oswald Cobblepot is an evil version of Bruce Wayne’s rich status.
@@petermj1098 and?
Penguin isn't necessarily pure evil.
Glad to have you back! 👍
The great man has returned!
HE LIVES!!!! I was hoping you’d come back to talk about this lol
Yes you have returned. Thank you so much.
Man I missed watching your content so bad
Please don't stop posting ❤❤❤
Awesome seeing you back again, at least for a little while 🙂
Holy fuck, HE' S BACK!!!
Happy to have you back man.
I know this is a shot in the dark but top 5 chronos stories?
Yayyy! You're back!
The legend!!!!! Has returned
What "grifter garbage" are you clowns on about
No it doesn't because because aren't accurate to anything but themselves .
From what I’ve heard Harley’s costume’s color scheme was based on the color scheme of a jester figure from the 40’s.
welcome back my friend, love your videos.
Welcome back, legend.
I can't believe it. It's been so long I thought you were gone forever. You're back!
We must imprison him so he mustn’t leave again.
The king returned!
Nice to see someone objectively critique this show without letting their politics get in the way of the review (and I mean both treating it like the spawn of satan and by treating it like the best thing since slices bread )
Great to see you back!!!, I watched a few episodes just couldn't get into it
in the next season, I want an episode about Deadshot or the Ventriloquist and Scarface
CROM'S BONES, YOU'RE BACK! YOU'RE BAAACK!!!! 🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇
No they should penguins gender because it's a els worlds and they can do whatever they want.
Glad Having You Back Rogues, Be The Man
Welcome back sir
I haven't gotten all the way through but I have a feeling you're not gonna like what they did with your favorite villain.....
