I absolutely love Valhalla. I think we're extremely lucky to have such a ride in the UK. It's mega. Other than Disney or Universal, what park anywhere would attempt such a ride? Incredible, and so underrated by regulars in this country.
I’m a regular and I don’t think I underrate it, I’ve always given an honest opinion. Some people do hate it, strangely. I loved it in its early years, not enjoyed it since the water vortex was at head height rather than over the boat.

To improve the ride reliability is the control system that needs some work and with rumour that control both is moving to same level as Station I think that may take place. I have a photo I took from the old cable car, where you can see Valhalla being built. Looking forward to seeing the new reveal in 2022. Stay safe to all at PBE
I first rode Valhalla in 2002, when a friend from Canada wanted to visit Blackpool. I was not expecting to get drenched to the skin however. Then when I visited my family (who live in Fleetwood), I rode it again in 2005, only this time I came prepared with waterproof leggings, and a goretex jacket. The ride attendant even commented, "I see someone's been on it before."
I'd love to know if, in reality, it's been a financial success for the Park in terms of estimated additional revenue it's generated. That aside, I think it's definitely been a success from a guest perspective. Original skull paintwork looked 10 times better. Themed element wise, I always felt the crashing and rolling logs required more lighting and to be triggered a bit earlier (blink and you miss it kind of thing.) Best memory I have is riding it approx. 8 times in a row near the end of the day years back with my nephew. I'm definitely in the 'it gets you too wet' camp and I hope this is addressed during the refurb. Can't think of the proper term but I wonder if they'll go down the route of themed screens to cut running costs longer term. I am getting OLD ... I still think of it as being quite a new attraction!!!
My claim to Valhalla glory: for my friends 12th birthday we went to the Pleasure Beach and it was a very quiet day and they were testing out Valhalla before the grand opening with Jonathon Ross the day after and they let us go on a few rides of it as a sneak preview - I also went on the PlayStation 14 times and the Big One 10 times resulting in whiplash which i discovered whilst on the Grand National which then broke slightly and wouldn’t let our seat bars come up so I had to do another circuit with whiplash - all totally my own fault and I was off sick from PE at school for 3 weeks whilst it healed! Ahh simpler times!
I hope that they take away some of the things that take you out of the illusion. The big before the cold room feels like being in the warehouse of a supermarket as you can hear the freezer units and see all the tarps. And just before the final drop it’s a bit odd hearing a broad Lancashire accent telling you not to lean forward. Plus there’s that bizarre disco light in the final scene too.
i understand the fire effects are expensive but i think the big hit fire wall should stay at least, the other fire effects could be replaced by sustainable effects, love to see the real snow back, more animatronics and surprises, louder clearer message from the god on the first lift with a better visual effect. projection mapping in tunnels creating life like lava cracks would be cool , i'm for the vortex as it is or with a perspex shield. take out green laser doesn't fit the theme, keep the turntable and the wind. that's pretty much all my thoughts i can't wait to see how its reimagined i hope this project is taken seriously with a big budget and long may it continue to collect awards, this is the best ride in the UK , and my favourite dark ride in the world!
As far as what I would hope/ want to see done inside, The thing that will make or break it for me is whether it will still have real fire/real snow real wind et cetera or not, as long as they’ve still got those aspects and restore them to their former glory then I’m happy, everything else I’m open minded to seeing what they can do with it, there’s just so much you can do know that you couldn’t do even 10 years ago never mind 20 years ago. Projection mapping throughout the ride alone would help to really enhance some of the existing scenes like the flaming arrows and the spiky logs in🙂 Hopefully it won’t be as drenching wait as it has been🤞
I think we will see a lot of projection mapping and maybe the use of screens. I will be surprised to see the snow taken away, I’ve stood and watched that machine in motion, and it’s so good. Real fire, hmm, I have a feeling that’ll be a thing of the past (I have no inside info)
@@yourexperienceguide That’s fair enough I’m more bothered because that’s what makes Valhalla different from other most other dark rides, the real elements.
I went just before lockdown me and my mate were a little disapointed it wereclosed for refurbishment we hope to go back and see if there’s any different but I hope they don’t change it too much
As far as the costs of the gas and electricity to operate the Fire and other affects there are other ways of producing real flames without it costing as much money, for example you can get fire machines that use flammable aerosols or flammable liquid rather than mains gas, i’ve also come across a manufacturer that produces a snow machine thatcan make real snow in all weather conditions but uses far less power consumption🙂
I am so looking forward tot he refurbishment, my favourite ride at the pleasure beach after icon! This was a great video, wish pleasure beach would still do projects this big! Also, where can I find that concept art at the start of the video? It's beautiful
I hope it doesn’t go away any time soon. The fact that it has been refurbished a number of times suggests it IS successful. They wouldn’t keep putting money into a ride that was costing too much or not getting enough riders. Long live Valhalla. I haven’t been on the ride since about 2014, but what I would like to see in the refurbishment is more pyrotechnics and special effects between scenes. The sailing around in between can be slightly boring. And I would like it to last a bit longer too. Even just another 90 seconds would do it. One of my top favourites at BPB, always.
Whenever I visit Pleasure Beach, the lines for Valhalla always stretch beyond the designated que area. To me, that marks a big success, though I have noticed some of the mechanical elements were stopped over the years. Personally, I used to love Valhalla, but these days I find that, unless it's a very hot day, the unpleasentness of being cold and wet afterwards isn't offset by whatever thrills the ride gives me. I'll likely ride it once or twice upon refurbishment, just to see the changes. But it's not going to be a ride I prioritise.
I'm hoping when it reopens, they have sorted the drainage problem with the boats. I expect they will add lap bars although I looovveed the fact that that they didn't have any. I am a little worried that we will be getting a toned down Valhalla in terms of theming, but I'm hoping that won't be the case. Hopefully it will be amazing and blow us all away :)
I'll be really surprised if they add lapbars, but I suppose in this day and age it is a possibility. I would like to see less wetness and better boat drainage, not too fussed otherwise.
Reliability needs to improve and that must be fundamental to the refurbishment. I am used to it either breaking down whilst on it and getting evacuated, or it breaking down before you ride it. Also, hope they fix the water vortex 💦 very good video.
@@yourexperienceguide I was worked on Valhalla. I helped build it and put it through its shakedown before opening. On opening day it broke down around 50 times. This continued for a while
I remember riding this on its opening year and not being into the internet theme park scene back the i was unaware of any build up or hype about this ride. I got on it with my friend and we both said "this will be just another water ride, we will get a little wet" Boy we were so wrong! We were blown away by the whole package!
I can imagine without the hype of construction updates it must have been mega. I first rode this in 2004 I think it was, absolutely blown away by it too at the time.
I'll be gutted if they get rid of song of the elders, song of the elders is Valhalla and fits the Viking theme perfectly, I think it'd be very hard to find a new sound track that's as good or better 😁👌
@@yourexperienceguide Yeah I suppose, as it's technically like they're building a new ride👍 If they do Change the soundtrack though, I hope the new one sounds viking themed like song for the Elders does 👌
I love Valhalla, but last time I went on it there was a bit of my jeans near my left knee that was not fully soaked, which was a shame, but hopefully with the upgrades BPB will ensure that every rider is completely sodden from head to toe when leaving the ride, (especially important on colder days), so guests do not forget their Valhalla experience for the remainder of the day 👍
I think in the refurbishment they are replacing old pumps with newer cheaper to run ones and I don't think we will see the fire back taking gas out of the ride altogether due to costs but will I think we will get some great scenes and animatronics. trust me it's going to be good
Anthony Williams It’ll certainly be interesting, I know for certain they’re doing a lot of work on the station to iron out some issues. I hope more than anything the boat drainage is fixed and the water vortex binned.
Anthony Williams I wouldn’t listen at this point, I’ve got a lot of reliable contacts who work at BPB and nobody has lifted the lid on the Valhalla changes.
Just think about a comment earlier. Just lengthiness the station will help to reduce running cost on quite days. On quite days they operate on 4 boats , but they station will only hold 3 boats so in order unload they have to send round an empty boat. So saving the need to send round empty boats will save on costs.
@@mbh1960 so you don't think anything going on inside the ride everyone can see the station being done but for work to be going on more than a year it's not just the station there working on.
Nearly every time I went on this there was always "incidents" I'm never sure what they were but I imagine it was idiots climbing out of the boats mid-ride
Great video Scott. As always. I know I often comment lamenting how I’d love to ride but haven’t ... not this time! I have been on Valhalla more than once. See I’m not a total wuss lol 😂 it’s my sister’s favourite- I had planned to take her to BPB for her 30th in March so she could ride this again but clearly that isn’t happening lol. Maybe I can take her for her 31st 😂😂🤞🏻🤞🏻🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ Hope all at PBE are keeping safe and well xx
As a pleasure beach worker, we are all waiting to reopen and welcome the public once again, as soon as the government announce that it is safe to do so. Work and training behind the scenes is ongoing ready for the parks safe opening this season.
@@jamiesumner3070 Treated myself to a season pass when they had the £85 deal on late last year, I received an email from PBB telling me to register it online which I did, and the other day I booked my visit for the 12th of April, can't wait to be back 😁
A white elephant. While very impressive when it opened, it was doomed to deteriorate once BPB got bored of maintaining it (in other words, couldn't afford to maintain it to its original spec). It also gets you unpleasantly wet. Sorry to everyone who loves it, just my opinion.
PROJECTION MAPPING. Give it to all of them, river caves could use it, wallice and gromit, hell even throw it in the ghost train. such a change and comparatively a lot cheaper too. man I'd love that. but they need to keep some of the explosions.

The sponsorship of Valhalla by The Daily Star was a huge success. I remember during construction and after the opening of Valhalla it was heavily publicised in the paper! They done a great job of showcasing the ride & attracting visitors to BPB. Even the link up of the bogof wristband vouchers still goes on till this day with The Daily Star 😎 PS I still go on Valhalla every visit without fail ❤
I would disagree. Does a ride like Valhalla which is a link to mythology really tie in well with a newspaper which is ‘smutty’ and ‘laddish’. I don’t think so.
I have been on this ride loads of times over the years. Rememeber the Water Chute which was located next to it when the funhouse was there. I have never enjoyed Valhalla and the Logflume was much better in my opinion. They should have replaced it with something else. We dont get the weather in UK to justify a water ride that soaks you as much as Valhalla unlike if it was in the USA. BPB should have added a new ride in its place!
Infusion replaced the Log Flume, Valhalla and the Log Flume were together at BPB for six years. I do think a 'dry' dark ride would have been better than a water ride though.
John Mills I can’t say because I don’t know your age but for the past ten years or more they’ve been updating scenes every closed season. It’s certainly not run down.
I would like it removed and replaced by an indoor water coaster, the first in the UK.. Come on pleasure beech forward thinking.. I know what would make fortunes inside pleasure beech would be a weatherspoons, I know the velvet coaster isn't far away but who can be bothered going in and out of the park.. Get free drinks with wristbands etc.. Have the weatherspoons themed.. I like a pint and the drinks inside pleasure beach are frankly poor..
Well what you like and what everyone else likes are two separate things...Valhalla is a great ride , easily one of the best themed rides in the UK imo. Do you know anything about how much of a logistical nightmare it would be and how much it would cost to get a Wetherspoons into Pleasure Beach? Let alone the fact you suggest having it themed, which goes against Wetherspoon's classic British pub brand. Free drinks with wristbands also makes no sense. For soft drinks and such like they have in Merlin parks it would make sense but for alcoholic drinks it definitely wouldn't make sense.
@@sn0wt1ger all about opinions James but I think I'm more experienced in the leisure industry more than yourself, no disrespect. Vallhalla is old now.. I am so looking forward tot he refurbishment, my favourite ride at the pleasure beach after icon! This was a great video, wish pleasure beach would still do projects this big! Also, where can I find that concept art at the start of the video? It's beautiful
Thanks for watching Zak, BPB were kind enough to send it over for use in this video 😀
@@yourexperienceguide wow thats incredible! Wish pleasure beach had a museum for stuff like that

Pleasure Beach Experience thank you so much, these pieces are beautiful, you’re truly the best channel on UA-cam! 👍
My fav ride in England !!
Great
The part with Fire on Valhalla at 1:39 was Dangerous! ⚠️ ⛔️ But nice review though! 👏👏👏
I doubt it’d have been kept without extensive testing
I hope it doesn’t go away any time soon. The fact that it has been refurbished a number of times suggests it IS successful. They wouldn’t keep putting money into a ride that was costing too much or not getting enough riders. Long live Valhalla.
I haven’t been on the ride since about 2014, but what I would like to see in the refurbishment is more pyrotechnics and special effects between scenes. The sailing around in between can be slightly boring. And I would like it to last a bit longer too. Even just another 90 seconds would do it. One of my top favourites at BPB, always.
It'll be interesting to see what they do, I am not getting into a Valhalla debate but I am not sure it's been a complete success.
While I've never had the guts to go on this ride one thing I miss is the huge hanging shark they had on display nearby it
Amazing dark ride best waterride I've ever been on such fun i hope they don't ruin it with crap affects
It’ll be interesting to see what’s done
@@yourexperienceguide ive got a feeling all the fire and ice that cost a big chunk of the running costs will be gone forever 😢
I can’t say I’ve ever made it a priority, I used to enjoy it a lot more in its early years. I’ve hardly been on it since the refurbishments in 11/12
I'm hoping when it reopens, they have sorted the drainage problem with the boats.
@@yourexperienceguide Yeah let's hope they sort out that vortex as the wetness there is just crazy lol
Reliability needs to improve and that must be fundamental to the refurbishment. I am used to it either breaking down whilst on it and getting evacuated, or it breaking down before you ride it. Also, hope they fix the water vortex 💦 very good video.
I’ll be very happy to see the water vortex has been removed, that’s my biggest hope for the refurb
@@yourexperienceguide
I was worked on Valhalla. I helped build it and put it through its shakedown before opening. On opening day it broke down around 50 times. This continued for a while
this was the best ride in the park
Reopens this year
Best ride in BPB but you had go round on the other rides 1st and Valhalla was the last ride you go on before leaving you all know why
Thank you for watching and commenting :)
Valhalla is my most favourite ride.
Brill
I remember riding this on its opening year and not being into the internet theme park scene back the i was unaware of any build up or hype about this ride. I got on it with my friend and we both said "this will be just another water ride, we will get a little wet" Boy we were so wrong! We were blown away by the whole package!
I can imagine without the hype of construction updates it must have been mega. I first rode this in 2004 I think it was, absolutely blown away by it too at the time.
Personally it’s my favourite at pleasure beach!
Good stuff
I love Valhalla and even after it’s refurbishment
As long as update is they not just giving you wellies to wear on it ...flooding in boats was horrendous before they closed it
I don’t think they’ll only be updating the footwear options 😉
@@yourexperienceguide ha ha nice one scott😄😉😁
I really wish Blackpool Pleasure Beach would release some teasers of Valhalla before it reopens! I really want to know what’s going on! 😂😂
No chance lol
I'll be gutted if they get rid of song of the elders, song of the elders is Valhalla and fits the Viking theme perfectly, I think it'd be very hard to find a new sound track that's as good or better 😁👌
I think they'll change it, which I think is a good idea.
@@yourexperienceguide Yeah I suppose, as it's technically like they're building a new ride👍 If they do Change the soundtrack though, I hope the new one sounds viking themed like song for the Elders does 👌
course, the time i actually can go on it with someone willing it’s closed. 😭😭
Reopens 2022
@@yourexperienceguide yeah unfortunately, wish it couldve stuck to opening this year so i couldve gone on it but i’ll have to wait till next year
Love that thumbnail!
Thank you
I love Valhalla, but last time I went on it there was a bit of my jeans near my left knee that was not fully soaked, which was a shame, but hopefully with the upgrades BPB will ensure that every rider is completely sodden from head to toe when leaving the ride, (especially important on colder days), so guests do not forget their Valhalla experience for the remainder of the day 👍
Thank you for watching and commenting.
My fav ride
Brill
After icon vahalla its the best ride there.
Glad you enjoy it 😊
I think in the refurbishment they are replacing old pumps with newer cheaper to run ones and I don't think we will see the fire back taking gas out of the ride altogether due to costs but will I think we will get some great scenes and animatronics. trust me it's going to be good
Anthony Williams It’ll certainly be interesting, I know for certain they’re doing a lot of work on the station to iron out some issues. I hope more than anything the boat drainage is fixed and the water vortex binned.
@@yourexperienceguide yeah what I hear is friend of a friend who's working but don't really know if it's reliable
More often than not had tech issues
Is it open for august
Opens 2022
@@yourexperienceguide oh okay
Great video Scott. As always. I know I often comment lamenting how I’d love to ride but haven’t ... not this time! I have been on Valhalla more than once. See I’m not a total wuss lol 😂 it’s my sister’s favourite- I had planned to take her to BPB for her 30th in March so she could ride this again but clearly that isn’t happening lol. Maybe I can take her for her 31st 😂😂🤞🏻🤞🏻🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Hope all at PBE are keeping safe and well xx
Thank you, much appreciated! You may have been on it more than me, I did it once in 2019 and that was my first time on it since 2014.
I miss being able to go to theme parks
Me too
As a pleasure beach worker, we are all waiting to reopen and welcome the public once again, as soon as the government announce that it is safe to do so.
I doubt they got bored, I think it’s more that money dried up after 2004 and it has been tough since.
Boy some ppl really talk shite. 🙄👏🤦♂️🧏♂️🤡
i am 7 i went on avlanj grand nasnao and sepplchas
Which rides?
Best dark ride ever.
Really? Big praise
Got would be nice to see the return of the water tunnel also when I last rode Valhalla I felt there were areas with nothing happening
I am not a big fan of the water vortex, won't be sad to see it go unless it is improved to the point that it doesn't soak riders
PROJECTION MAPPING. Give it to all of them, river caves could use it, wallice and gromit, hell even throw it in the ghost train. such a change and comparatively a lot cheaper too. man I'd love that. but they need to keep some of the explosions.
I think there’s going to be a lot of projection mapping and a lot less physical effects
@@yourexperienceguide let me have my two last explosions and my cold room and I'm happy, if they wanna do the projections proper they'll need to keep good sets to integrate them with though, man I love speculating about this kinda shit, I could do it all day.
MRtoast I agree about speculating, it always adds to the excitement of these projects
No you can’t beat physical effects. This is why dark rides are shit nowadays. Reliant on boring technology.
@@handsoffmycactus2958 ok grandad, how about you look at Disneyland's Alice and wonderland ride, compare it with and without the projection mapping and come back me. tell me it doesn't look 60 times better, Keep in mind we aren't talking about like simulation rides like a universal studios.
I have not been on this ride yet cuz I dont want to get wet through. My brother and my dad have tho.

The sponsorship of Valhalla by The Daily Star was a huge success. I remember during construction and after the opening of Valhalla it was heavily publicised in the paper!
They done a great job of showcasing the ride & attracting visitors to BPB.
Even the link up of the bogof wristband vouchers still goes on till this day with The Daily Star 😎
PS I still go on Valhalla every visit without fail ❤
I would disagree. Does a ride like Valhalla which is a link to mythology really tie in well with a newspaper which is ‘smutty’ and ‘laddish’. I don’t think so.
I just hope pleasure beach doesn’t do what Thorpe did with Loggers Leap
Different circumstances, and that was a Merlin decision not a Thorpe Park decision.
They better add lights here cause I have a fear of being stuck in cramped places
I can’t see any additional lighting being added, it’s themed to be a dark ride style attraction
In my opinion Valhalla isn't the right attraction for BPB
I’d have been happy to see it replaced
It looks crud in comparison when it first opened the facade looks amateur.
The 2012 facade was a massive downgrade
@@yourexperienceguide definitely not as skilled who remodelled it.
@@yourexperienceguide Yea I agree. I am surprised the Ghost Train has not had an upgrade.
John Mills Some of the scenes have been changed, doesn’t really need to be modernised
@@yourexperienceguide There are some which are older than me! Its run down and needs a refurb!
And why would weatherspoons be so hard to construct, they throw them up everywhere.. Just put it where that bowling place is.. Wow some people have no imagination...
