Wow! How simple, the technique is 2 steps, pull the cable and then turn it to the right 1/4 of a turn, this releases the safety of the automatic hydraulic electrical system in manual mode, a great help, many do not know this simple step that confuses the switch, it is not only pull it, good explanation, thank you....👍🤝
@@visionfreestyle3332 I need to do another video on why mine didn't work. Basically the release pin on the pump seized up and then when I pulled the cable it didn't release it from the hydraulics.
Pulling the red pin is a bypass so the fluid isn’t under pressure of the motor. It will still be hard to move back and forth, you just won’t bend or damage the framework. I reckon you have a leak in the left or right hydraulic ram. Did you check the fluid level in the motor reservoir? That will confirm it. Your motor is fine I think.
I have a 2003 BMW Z4 I have put a new electric motor for the hydraulic set up for the convertible top it will unlock at the top by the windshield but when it does it's like after I pull the red pin in the back and turn it sideways the car top still won't go down manually stuck halfway up I'm afraid to force it down does there have to be hydraulic fluid in the lines or in the reservoir where the electric motor is back there in the trunk Ford to go down manually
fun isn't it, my z4 went into a garage for some work, I collected it roof down, got home and roof motor wouldn't work, took it back and was shown the red ring pull to disengage the motor, slotted it back in with a twist and all worked.
My z4 headlights don't work so I changed the main beam and high beam bulbs then they worked again for 2 days and stopped again also doesn't show indicators lights on dashboard when this happens any ideas greatly appreciated
@@icantintyou it's because we're not American my friend👍....and as it's a Germany Car, Z in German is pronounced ZED VIER. so technically the Americans are pronouncing it wrong as it's not Zeeee4 😉
Cars are like children, they never do what they should on camera. Is that roof Hydraulic with the electric motor running a pump or is it run with the electric motor? The last convertible I had was a 1986 and used electric/ hydraulic roof mechanism. The roof pump/ motor was expensive to replace then, thinking $500. Thanks for video and get better for riding season.

Thanks for this. I'll check the fluid levels asap and hopefully it'll just need a top up 🤞
This video is hilarious😂 great video nonetheless

It's a pain isn't it when the red pin wont allow you to operate it manually.
I love this video ,its like if i made a video ,it all goes wrong hahah my buttons flash red and theres no noise or anything trying to latch or move
I still can't get the roof to operate manually 🤣
I have exactly the same problem :(
Seems more like you are low on fluid and not a bad motor. The actual valve bypass gets corroded on the valve body and the pull doesn't work.
Thank you, I'll have to have a look at it and see if I can top up the fluid if it's low
Aha thanks my red pull doesn't feel like it's doing anything 😊

But how to top up fluid?
It's the same thing in mine. Whether the red hook is pulled or not, when he wants he gets up or he doesn't get up! You can't understand how it works.
why do you zed 4 when its Z4? what does zed mean/ ive heard this alot,

At least you tried. Thank you

Isn't that true lol. It's a hydraulic pump but it's on its way out. I need to get a new one ASAP
Thank you for this explanation
