Its difficult to index or search for content - I looked for Rootzone depths the other day and it was difficult to find specific content. I have a 300sqm lawn laid on builders rubble which I cant currently afford to dig up and start again so I have to manage the best I can by killing weeds, spot levelling, moss control, scarifying and reseeding. Its a tricky balancing act when you throw in weather and feed products I would really appreciate some tips on how to make the best of 'scratchy' lawns, weedkillers (and how to deal with weeds not covered by Weedol / Resolva - Speedwell Woodrush) dwell times and a review of your products and what and how best to use efficiently? Equally there has to be a tipping point where there is no sensible option than to kill the lot and start again! Keep up the good work and if you get to Wembley I'll buy you a pint!
Daniel, scarified and top dressed my lawn 2 weeks ago, but the grass has hardly grown since. -1C here again last night, South Lakes - lashing it down this evening. How long, do you think, should/can I leave it before I give it a cut?
How’s your seed been taking so far Dan? Weathers took a turn recently and temps dropped at night were I am mate, not seen any germination as of yet on mine
I’m now on day 12 and germination has just started (in the sunny spots) Was starting to think the seed was dead but just got a glimmer of hope. Temps have definitely pushed it backward.

We laid our lawn two years ago and I’ve done nothing with it. The topsoil has sunk and levelled leaving some dips to the point I cannot really use the cylinder at all, it’s far from the pool table flat that we started with sadly. I’ve taken out all the dandelions and rogue grasses and it’s mostly good grass again. What’s the best field compost to use to fill my dippy bits following seeding?

Question for you, I see a lot of lawn content creators put down the soil or compost first and then the seed on top of that and rake it in but you do the opposite, put the seed down first and the compost on top. Have you seen a greater benefit of seed first? Maybe less chance of wash out or birds eating the seed?

Why put the seed on last when we are using the compost as a blanket, Answer me this When you plant a sunflower seed in a pot do you put the compost in the pot them just leave the seed exposed on top or do you press it down then cover it over with compost?

I have obviously had quite a bit of growth come through from existing lawn along with some but not all the new seed emerge it will be 3 weeks on Sunday since renovation. How do you deal with couch grass? I had a patch that I sprayed off and reseeded but I’ve noticed plants coming up outside of the area I sprayed, probably due to the rhizomes spreading. Thanks

My lawn is getting overrun by horsetail. Not too sure if there is anything I can do about it apart from digging the whole lawn up and starting again but I expect the horsetail will come back

I had turf laid in my back garden in September last year (on pretty much clay soil). It seemed to look okay but now recently had some work down at the far end of the garden and the lawn is pretty chewed up. However while doing the work, I noticed the turf is essentially just lying like a carpet with no roots going into the ground below the turf. What would you recommend I do to fix this? I was thinking aerate, gypsum, sand, then overseed and topdress. Would really appreciate your advice, thanks!
Evatt In or Evatt Out next season? Or does it depend on promotion or not? 3 years in L1 and a decent budget to spend. It will be a tougher division next year with what is coming down from Championship and up from L2.

If existing lawn needs cutting then cut but just push n pull the mower so your not turning on the new seed

You will have to open it up on full and weigh out what you need and keep going in multiple directions till you run out

When you scalp the grass, do you actually go for the shortest on the allet mower? Will that not kill existing lawn?
No it will be fine short as i like with it being not totally level it scalps

It seemed to look okay but now recently had some work down at the far end of the garden and the lawn is pretty chewed up. However while doing the work, I noticed the turf is essentially just lying like a carpet with no roots going into the ground below the turf. What would you recommend I do to fix this? I was thinking aerate, gypsum, sand, then overseed and topdress. Would really appreciate your advice, thanks!
Can happen if in the shade, ive had that before but once the weather comes it will root

Field compost is only in Haverhill - you could collect if not too far from north Essex ?
I've just used an organic peat free from wicks it's really fine only 5er a bag. Dumped 12 bags onto a tarpaulin to dry in sun first

3 years in L1 and a decent budget to spend. It will be a tougher division next year with what is coming down from Championship and up from L2.
