I was part of the corporate world for a LONG time. Hated every second of it. Money was good but life was sh!t!. I craved freedom. From BS and deadlines.. I used my vacation hours and went on a cross country trip with my high school trucker buddy. It opened my eyes to what I was looking for. FREEDOM. It’s what I was looking for. I’ve been a professional trucker for 12 years now and would recommend it to anyone who feels trapped in their corporate cage.
I think it takes a VERY specific person (and personality) to be a trucker. Just driving for Uber & Lyft for 3 years prior to the pandemic... the ONLY thing I liked was meeting new people who were friendly and interesting. Everything else sucked. I doubt I'd enjoy being a long-hauler under ANY circumstances.
Great tips, especially about having a purpose statement and not accepting every meeting you are invited to. The only part that I slightly disagree with is “only invite the decision makers” because sometimes that can make mid level managers feel invisible and ignored, and also, non-decision makers are often the “worker bee” types who are in the actual weeds and have valuable insight to share.
@@SarahMcCartney4160 oh interesting. I did not know that. I used to work for a very large org where decisions were often made behind closed doors by upper leadership only, and they made some very poor decisions because none of them were close enough to the actual work and didn’t understand the implications of their decisions on the staff on a daily basis. I really believe in a democratic process in which people at all levels get a voice, so to say “invite the true decision makers only to make things easier and faster” really is the opposite of my philosophy.
@@yukikowu5695 me too. There are only four of us full time so it's easier to get us all together, but if I didn't ask the young people's views I would be losing perspective. They have so many good ideas.
@@SarahMcCartney4160 it’s interesting what you say about age, and you are so right. I’m 46 and the people on my team are in their early 30’s. They just have a different perspective and whether we like it or not, they are the next generation in the workforce so we have to pay attention to what they have to say. If leadership started making all kinds of decisions without involving them, they would become quickly disengaged.
Hey, I know sometimes it gets really hard but don’t give up on yourself. You got this. It's gonna get better real soon. I believe in you. You will make it! 😊❤
Yes yes with deadlines and not being able togetmy work done I started blocking my calendar until my boss got ticked off when people complained I would literally only block a couple of hours a few days a week funny thing is I had a coworker that always missed deadlines and my boss told him to block time then when I did just that he called me on it.

I achieve great success every week with the guidance of my BROKER and since contacting my BROKER, Mrs Elizabeth Armstrong Palmer, I have gained a lot with small losses, her trading strategy is top-notch.
I have also been trading with her, The profits are secured and over a 100% return on investment directly sent to your wallet, I'm a living testimony of her work.
after watching so many UA-cam tutorial videos about trading I was still making losses until Mrs Elizabeth started managing my investments now I make $21,560 weekly. God bless Mrs Elizabeth Armstrong Palmer she’s been a blessing to my family.
“Action Verb” is redundant. You need to find a more clear way to express your idea. Try “actions that change” or “progressive actions” to make your words more true to your idea.
Probably, she was trying to say a 'very "actionable item" done in the meeting'. Most of the review and related comments/suggestions can be done offline. And on the other hand, "discussing" post-rework decisions and conflicting review items can be an "actionable" work/meeting item. I hope this explanation sits apt with her manifest.

5 Tips
1. Ask urself do u really need the meeting
2. Invite less people
3. Use less time
4. Say no to other's meetings
5. Be ruthless with your time
Sounds like the perfect tips to getting fired lol! Creative ideas are fun but sadly that’s now how boomer workplaces are ran
1-4 I’m already doing intuitively. Don’t need a TED speech to figure that out. 5 sounds great until you need others to share their time with you too.

Honestly we need to schedule less meetings and send less emails. I've been reading Cal Newport's new book "A World Without Email" and it's been great!
Email is the only thing I WANT to receive!
Great advice Cindy! It was so nice meeting you at the Women in Retail Leadership Conference 2 weeks ago!
*“Reduce the complexity of life by eliminating the needless wants of life, and the labors of life reduce themselves.” - Edwin Way Teale*
I’m stuck going to meetings led by people who don’t think this advice is for them.
THIS.
These tips can actually save us a good deal of time and energy! Thanks TED :)

It was the tea lady at a JWT meeting who named the KitKat. Decision makers didn't.

I totally can use all of this 90% of my day is meetings!!!
I was sent 7 notifications for this. Honestly if you want to reduce overload just the one would do it.
Hardest one I learned is leave. Yes if you're part is done. Smile and walk out. If you need practice clutch your phone and say I need to get this
What a useful video!
Every day. So many could have been emails. Providing the information first for”review” would be great.

Not unless I can remove the 'invisibility' curse which has been cast over me (for years now).
Unlikely for that to change, though.
very useful tips for anyone! thanks for sharing!
Thank you! I shared this with my husband who is an academic program director. This content is so accurate! 😁

hi is it possible to get the trasncript? it would be really usefull, thanks
I don't know about the transcript but in case you can download subtitles file in text format

I have in excess of 30 hours of meeting each week and then I am expected to perform in my role.
My job has daily meetings, I skip them 2 to 3 a week because it's a huge waste of time

I thought the title says "meeting overlord" and a skull creature came to my head.
❤️❤️
My solution is to not attend meetings I don't feel for.
👍👏🏻🙏
I'm early!
Hi
Porque nao entendem que nao é assim
Make no meeting over 40 minutes.
Try doing some real work the perfect antidote to meetings
