- COVID-19 cases are spiking in the U.S. as a new variant spreads. Emergency room visits appear to be at the highest level since February, according to new data. Dr. William Schaffner, a professor of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, joins CBS News with more.

Even if you test negative, the fact that you feel sick should make you keep away from others. It's not like covid is the only thing you can spread.

Unfortunately, many, if not most, employers are not so supportive of employees staying home when sick. That includes healthcare systems
Especially health care systems! You have to practically be admitted as an inpatient to use a sick day. It's so wrong!
@@happycook6737 Retired nurse of 44 years here and your so right. I can't tell you how many times I went to work sick because my nurse manager would give you grief and reprimand you for calling in. You get sick days but god forbid you actually use them.

The problem isn't expired tests. People are getting sick and still going to work or social engagements. If you feel sick, test yourself; and stay home if you are positive.
What if you can't afford to stay home? COVID sick pay should be brought back. Some people go to work because they have no choice, not because they want to.

My mom tested positive on two expired tests (and started self-isolating) and then confirmed she had it two days later when she finally got a non-expired test. The advice should be that if you test positive with an expired test you almost certainly have Covid, but if you test negative with an expired test you cannot be sure you don't.

I’ve always been told that if the control line still appears on expired tests then they’re still good, but people need to be aware of that one negative test doesn’t mean anything especially if they have symptoms. The instructions specifically say you are supposed to retest that’s why they put two tests in the box. They also say that if you have symptoms you need to understand that you are sick even if the test says negative
The ones who keep getting tested are the problem here with false positives. These tests can't determine if you have coNvid or a reg cold or flu, get it together.
My Grandma got it for the first time and had to be hospitalized. She was super delirious at one point so it was pretty scary. It seems she’s finally started to recover now though. Hope everyone stays safe out there. If you’re sick please stay home so you don’t unintentionally spread it to someone who could be affected much worse by it.

Glad your Grandmother is getting better. It's still odd to me and I don't think I'll ever get use to Covid. Not after what I experienced with my Mom in December of 2019. She spent over 2 weeks on a ventilator during the Holidays. Dr's had no clue how to treat it and I had little faith that she was going to make it. I recently got this new Strain and my cognition was horrible. I felt dissociated with my body and the brain fog was a trip.

@@sessions9869 She’s in a skilled nursing facility now instead of her apartment, she also had a wound on her leg that got infected and she’s having trouble walking now. It sucks, idc if you believe me or not. COVID is also going around the Olympics, it’s clearly being transmitted more this summer. Hope you or your loved ones don’t get it.

Regardless of COVID, stay home if you’re sick. Some people think it’s some badge of honor or something to walk around sick, like they’re just not going to give in or something 🙄🙄. It’s actually rude, inconsiderate, and stupid.
No. Maybe you can afford to take a few weeks off of work every year because you have the sniffles, but most of us don't have that luxury. I'm immuno-compromised and even I think that's a stupid idea lol.

I had to go to the ER for a medical issue and while I was sitting waiting the people that came in after were coughing. I should have put mask on right away because 7 days later I have COVID. People if you are sick coughing please put on a mask in the ER.

Im disgusted by how many people don't practice good hygiene. So many people coughing and sneezing and not covering their faces, or sending children who are sick as hell to be around other children or just going to the grocery store and spreading germs everywhere. You would think that people would have BETTER hygiene considering what we have been dealing with.

As a teacher, I still wear a mask most days because middle schoolers have terrible hygiene practices. They stay sick year around.
Terrible hygiene and most parents who work and have no one to take care of the kid will send them to school sick instead of staying home with them.

You mentioned homelessness, well I'm currently homeless and staying in a shelter. I am disabled. I have a compromised immune system and even when I wasn't in a shelter I made hygiene a priority because I don't blame others for my problems.

Have COVID now. So far I haven't had to go to the ER, but I am quite sick.
I just got over mine. I felt pretty sick, like a bad cold or flu. I almost went to the ER, but held off, called my doctor. He said as long as you're not experiencing breathing problems or high fever, just stay home. He also said they're not prescribing the covid meds like they were.
It took about 12 days, but I'm fine now. Turns out a lot of people- young people too- are getting sick and for longer than a week.

I caught Covid on a flight. The woman next to me, not wearing a mask, was coughing the entire time. It was very hard to do my landscaping job a few days later considering how weak I was. Such rude people.

Got it. Body aches (legs then arms then back), headache, fatigue, sore throat, some coughing. Felt like a flu for 1-2 days then mild symptoms. Not vaccinated. Nobody else in my house caught it.

In my opinion, the issue is a person gets COVID and in 7 days that person who had COVID is around people. Instead of staying home for a few more days. I had a meeting where this exact issue happened. A parent calm and cool said oh last week on Thursday my child and I had COVID, we are fine now. I'm screaming to myself you should of stayed home longer. I didn't know the parent and child had COVID because they didn't say anything to me. Smh, I'm thinking people who recently had COVID should wear a face mask as a precaution and to keep other people safe. That's another issue too, no one is wearing face mask anymore.

I doubt it. Animals spread it. I saw an article that said most deer in North America carry covid but don't have symptoms. There is no eradicating this one. We were hopeful in the beginning, but it hadn't been studied yet because it was so new.

I had about 10 that were expired. I got COVID 2 weeks ago. Tested myself from when I didn’t feel good then skipped a day and came back positive. I was in another state and needed to drive home so I kept testing and waiting for a negative test. I finally talked to my dr who said the cdc guidelines is to isolate for days. Then you can go back to work with a mask. That didn’t sound correct so I isolated in a guest room for 10 days. I wasn’t bored because I felt like I had a bad cold or the flu. Yesterday was my 11th day, so I drove home, still trying to stay away from my husband. I’m still tired so it’s not hard to want to do nothing. God Bless!😇
This new variant is tricky. You kinda start feeling like maybe its allergies or just a cold so you go to work, meetings, weddings where you spread it and then you get sicker and are like.. oops its covid.

Summer travels + school... it's about to re-boom. I caught something at the beginning of July -knocked me out and I stayed myself inside. I might suggest wearing a mask if you have to go to high traffic area like day/weekend grocery shopping. Ppl are just open mouth sneezing and coughing straight into the air. I don't know why it's so hard to cover your face when you do that. That annoys me to no end.

I have the lingering effects of Covid that started last Thursday, Wife had it as well. Her symptoms were like allergies, nasal congestion and a slight cough that didn’t slow her down. Mine was body pain, fever for 3 days , a light cough, sinus pressure & fatigue that’s still lingering. Odd how it affects everyone differently.

The wife has had a strange illness for the last 7 days, testing is useless. Also she has had three jabs no help. I’m the only one I know that hasn’t had the jab and no major issues for me . Eating vitamins, exercise, sun. Eating well is the answer.

Terrible terrible had it. Caught it at a hospial getting a routine test done. Had no idea i would catch it! A nurse that was doing my test was coughing thought for a second could she have covid. Two days later positive with covid! Made me so mad!

I had Covid a few times, but I was diagnosed with Covid last friday, and this time, it had been the worst. I had my shots, and It affected my kidneys. liver enzymes were high, and sugar was high 315, and I hated it every moment of if fevers, chills, body aches, headaches, nauseous, sweating, dizzy, etc 😢😢😢
The most amazing thing is i haven't gone out so I do not know how i catch it !!!!
I just got over it and this time was worse than the first time. I still have sinus infection that just seems to take forever to get rid of. I have never had a sinus infection before but the covid triggered it I am sure!

I am isolating myself, yet to get a vaccine, I need to go to a busy store environment...I prefer boosting my immune system, for sure! But, being a retired RN, I know how important it is to keep immunity up in our country! People are traveling now, coming and going from all over. The less herd immunity to possibly even newer strains, could become catastrophic once more! I will be responsible and continue to boost my immune system through nutraceuticals and lifestyle choices, but will get my booster to help in the overall fight to protect not only myself, but others! Stop politicizing it! Science can be an essential part of existential continuance! No un or undereducated, greed-driven or cult-followers, can ever prove otherwise! It's the intelligent thing to do. It's the altruistic thing to do. It can save lives. Many, many lives.

Herd immunity isn't going to work with this virus. Boosting your immune system is helpful just remember COVID attacks and does damage to internal organs. My liver and kidneys ate not in great condition and I have been trying to eat as healthy as I can but I cannot afford to not vaccinate. COVID could be the last straw that puts me on Dialisis or worse.
@@oldmanghost219 in my experience it is due to poor compliance due to politicalization, and not trained in actual scientific stuff...whatever, but, if things had been managed from the get-go, I mean that's what the Obama playbook was all about...you know, cuz he listened to experts, much much more learned experts, and was prepared for the expected next public health emergency, endemic or pandemic! Trump threw it out, and made stupid cuts to the CDC, and anything "Obama" related due to his total immature mentality and severe text book narcissism/sociopath pathophysiology and psychology...over a well renowned and esteemed virology and immunology research scientist, lead author of many studies, including his copious research in AIDS and HIV. I worked with these poor individuals as a Hospice Nurse. You don't really see this as much, and it's due to science, and Dr. Anthony Fauchi! If we had suppressed the virus early on through compliance in working as a nation to nip it in the bud, it would not have continued to have it's hold in the unvaccinated or even undervaccinated...even having responsible adults wear masks and socially distance, and whatnot...I mean, polio hasn't been a thing for decades, thanks to science. But as non compliance in childhood vaccination can precipitate the return of this loathsome infirmity, just as measles mumps rubella has resurfaced time and again, whooping cough (pertussis,) and so on! It is what happens when viruses mutate with abandon!

I was one of the lucky minority that hadn't caught it yet; my luck ran out. I tested positive two weeks ago today, and it almost took the entire two weeks to get better. It felt like a bad cold/flu for 3-5 days, lost my sense of taste too. Still feel fatigued at times.

My entire family, my friends and their families got Covid.. hubby is immunocompromised due to lung cancer, so he was rushed to ER and I couldn't even go with him 😟 Covid-19 still lingers on. It's real until it happens to you..!

@elhajjmalikel6266 Yes, we all completed it and one booster. It helps a lot and makes a difference. We are now recovering thanks to the covid vaccine and Paxlovid. We will get another booster shot this Sept. Stay safe❣️
