I remember growing up, and seeing these on my great grandma. We are what she would say "Africans forced to America" or just plain African, and her mama and her mamas mama (born in africa) instilled this in the family line. She said some are for aesthetical purposes and I was not allowed to wear them yet. But when I started my first cycle she gave me a pair of waist beads and said "this is sacred" basically telling me to put it under my skirts on my hips and show no one but me intentionally. If someone sees it by mistake that is fine. But then when I got one of my first boyfriends she gave me a bundle of them and said alot about feminine power and energy and I should wear them proudly and with joy. She said to wear them under or over my clothes depending on how I felt. African ancestors had so many different traditions and they can mean a multitude of things. I believe some are for aesthetic and they should be blessed with that, and some are sacred and should be blessed as that as well.
N'dala'a beloved, I do not speak of all African traditions, that would be literally impossible to do even by pointing commonalities. What I speak of on my channel are of my own Bamileke traditions and the other African traditions I was honored to learned from while in Cameroun, Senegal, Ivory Coast and Kenya (to name a few). Nothing in these traditions is just for aesthetic purposes. A lot of what is considered asthetic is in fact energetic. May you continue to honor the traditions passed down from your elders and pass them to your children or those who will seek them out from you.
I'm Kenyan and we wear waist beads traditionally. We wear them to show a woman has a period and others are given when you get married. We traditionally NEVER show them off because they're considered sacred and it's akin to showing your intimate areas. Men hate to see their wives beads shown publicly because it's sensual and it bonds them. You exactly said what we do with them. I feel weird when i see women showing them off, kinda like am spying on something i shouldn't be seeing 😂😂🤣
This video has touched me very deeply. I am a very spirtual and intuitive person. Lately I have been drawn to glass breads. Not knowing why. I kept them in my Amazon shopping cart and I said, in time I will know the reason. Your video has made it very clear. I am going to make my beads. I am very excited about this. Thank you for your informative video. Blessings to you.
Great video. I am Ghanaian and worn waist beads all my life. I've always been told to hide them and never show them- never understood properly until now. Thank you for explaining it in depth. Namastè
This is the most informative and most beautiful explanation of the various purposes for the African Waist Beads that I have ever encountered. This has made me look at this cultural tradition in a much more mindful way. Your words on intent, spirituality, rites of passage, etc. was very moving.... Thank You so much for sharing! 🙏🏾
My mother is Puerto Rican and her sister (my aunt) was into spirituality, I thought she was "weird" when I was younger, bcuz I didnt understand her, anyways, she blessed me when i was 15 with waist beads... she had fire on her hands and said chants etc... but I distinctly remember her putting them on me. I loved them so much, I started to be mindful of my body. My sons father broke them off of me when I was pregnant. I was devastated. I will get them again. Thank You for this video.
happy i found this videos i wear my waist beads everyday under my clothes they only time its expose is when i go to the beach and wear a two piece suit
Very helpful, I have been gaining wisdom of waist beads because I want to incorporate making them. I believe in the the sacredness of only your husband knowing about you wearing them. . It is an expose of a different energy when everybody knows you're wearing them
I'm so glad I found this 💜 I had a lady from Ghana suggest I try waist beads because there's a very strong possibility that I have something called a spirit spouse (I just learned that was a thing like half an hour ago 😅) as well as issues with posture specifically in my hips. I'm blown away with how much information there is and how many things to consider...there is so much to know about all of it, I dont even know where to start on finding or making myself a set that will help me 😓 but thank you, you had (by far) the best explanation of waist beads and their purposes ive been able to find on here so far 💜
I truly appreciate you sharing your spirit and knowledge with Us. I have always desired to know the essence regarding waist beads. I have always felt that there was more substance to adorning them, than just for vain purposes. Again, Thank you for sharing wisdom.
Yes sis! Let the intention you put in them support you in your every needs. Also make sure to speak to that prince/princess for she/he chose you as their mother to bring them here. Much love!
I really appreciate your teaching on this sacred process. Thank you. I made my first waist beads and my companion loved them. He was the only one and I was his first to see this sacred space.
I thank you so much for your sharing about the beads. I just got my first one but intend on getting more. I am a spiritual lady and know to well about astral travel which I do often. I had to clear them because when I was at the doctor's office a nurse saw them and as you explained what happens. I had to clear the beads once I got home because her negative energy was trying to attach itself now I know why ....Namaste
Thanks for mak8ng this video Sis I am a bead woman so many people ask me to make them waist beads I didnt want to til I knew more. I feel way more confident now after watching your video assalamualaikum
This was really helpful. Thank you for sharing how waist beads are more than just fashion. I knew there was a meaning beyond what they are looked at. So beautiful
I'm moving to ghana in a couple years..my ex fiance is Nigerian and he always loved the beads..after we broke up I took them off..so to start fresh I ordered more today..i'll more than likely marry an african man since I'm moving to africa permanently..and the next set will be for whoever he is lol
Interesting video! Ive been wearing waistbeads for a few years and intuitively, ive liked them so much because they are a “secret” Beautiful video. Thank you! 🙏🏾
Thank you... I want to bless my daughter with some because she had her first child as a celebration of motherhood and me some for grandmother other daughters pregnant now so I want to bless her some also. And yes we are African Americans, we know where we came from even though we were born in America and we are not ashamed of Who We Are because we got made by God and I was taught God don't make mistakes. I love my culture
When i was in middle school I remember seeing girls with waist beads And they would say that when someone breaks them it’s because you’re losing your virginity or something like that. Seeing how these girls were blatantly wearing them, but not respecting it stopped me from ever thinking about getting it for a long time ...until I was older one day🥰 The first time i got beads done the woman put them so high where it was viewable and that made me so uncomfortable, so i cut them off and got new ones much lower. 👌🏿 i wanted to hide mine bc i feel it’s for me only lol, on top of how i remember girls being about it. one day my brother saw it somehow?? and blew up , saying “why the fuck you wearing waist beads” hella loud in front of his male friends who i never met in my life... he proceeded to go on about how women who wear them are letting men know that they “go crazy” in bed........ i would not STOP going back and forth about how that ain’t my reasons to wear them and idgaf bout what he thinks .. his reasoning to do that was “I’m yo brother” and he did this in front of my nieces and proceeded to tell them they can’t wear it... i got SO PISSED i end up crying which also triggered my 17 year old niece to cry.. she wanted some but hadn’t known anything about it she just thought it was cute.. she then broke down to me again later in private when i was leaving. I am now going to cut them off. He said i was overreacting but i felt SO disrespected as a woman .. my femininity is not something i like to put on blast. It’s the simple fact you wanna try to police my sexuality in front of strangers. I don’t know how to heal from that argument especially when he sees nothing wrong with what he did. But then he wonders why did I say he was misogynistic about a year ago.... sigh 🥺 thank you for your video. I’m on UA-cam watching a whole bunch of videos since i will be putting on my new ones myself ✨
YESSS. maybe you could talk to him another day and try to explain what it really means. this would be a good tradition to re/introduce into your family because as you said is vital to your feminity.
First take back your power by forgiving him for his ignorance. This is a great explanation. ua-cam.com/video/AhpEumxvD8I/v-deo.html Then send him some information via text or email. I understand that you were embarrassed. Also understand that his behavior revealed more about HIM than it did about you.
Thank you so much for sharing. This was very helpful. Love your content I got waist beads not long ago and I know that you are not supposed to show them to others they are not supposed to be visible. I am learning more and more.
GREETINGS MY SISTER GODDESS. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR YOUR VIDEO THANK YOU SO MUCH I CANNOT BLESS YOU ENOUGH. YOUR VIDEO IS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. MORE THAN INFORMATIVE AND EXTREMELY POWERUL. JUST SUBSCRIBED.
Hello! I’m sorry to intrude on this space, but I’ve decided to do exactly what you said in your video and do some research on waist beads, that’s how I found your video and I’m so glad that I did. I am probably also a participant in the trend, but only because I happened across some in a thrift store. I wanted to take care not to disrespect the history and meaning of waist beads, and I made sure to ask plenty of questions. I just want to say that I love all of the meaning and context of the beads, and I hadn’t realized they could be used for so many different things aside from waist training. Or course it will be different for everyone but I want to thank you for this lovely content. I’ll do my best to carry your words with me every time I look at my beads.
I am so glad you made this video. Because I saw the girls beads and I was like this is not a fashion statement. If you even accidentally see the beads you dont mention it, you know to mind your business because it is sacred.

Hi Love, people from all cultures and walk of life can wear them. What you seek is always seeking you too, you will find what you search sis. We have all the answers within ourselves.
Makeda Wisdom thank you so much for your quick reply! I'm looking to get them to become one with myself and more accepting of who I am now - in all aspects, as well as to heal from childhood trauma. So I am happy & a bit nervous about them but I appreciate all the advice you have given. Love your spirit, thank you again.

I think I know where your grandma is from

Waist beads feel similar to us wearing medicine bags. They are guarded & not shown off. They are sacred & piece of us. I love this video.
I have waist beads. Mine are for my weight loss as well as a reminder of the Goddess within
You are sooooo beautiful ❤
Sending love to you

My grandmother used to wear and she never taught me the meaning.
Oh my grandma! You are my angel
This makes PERFECT SENSE at this point in life with what I know about energy.

Thank you for sharing my name is Markita and it is my intent to attain my waist beads but it being deeper means to it
Greetings sister, thank you for such an informative and enlightening video. I appreciate you giving the spiritual meaning behind the waist beads. We’re repatriating to Ghana soon and I would like to either make or have another set made for myself and my daughter.
It really sounds like waist beads really work on the root chakra level. You kept mentioning intentions which put me on the mind of the root chakra. From the looks of your background, i would assume you’re very holistic and comprehensive in your approach to spirituality. It’s so refreshing to see an African woman in such a beautiful light. What African country are you from please?
I will definitely share this video with my sisters in the diaspora who are really just following a trend.
I love your channel. Thank you!
Very interesting, thank you for sharing
Love this. It's not for fashion. It's funny w the ring thing bc I bought a beautiful ring from an estate sale and was a little worried lol Subscribing.
N'dala! Yes, you can always cleanse and clear the jewelry you buy if you feel that you do not want the energy on it :)
Makeda Wisdom how would I do that?
One simple way is to put in on a bowl where you have some salt and put the jewelry and cover with more salt, leave for few hours should be enough. You can also pass the item through incense from sandalwood or sage :)
Makeda Wisdom can I make my own and where to find the beats?
Great Advise
Beautifully said. ❤️
Thank you for the explanation.
Thank toy my sister. . I was considering making breads for myself. Now that I know the significance of it I'm going to make two sets one for me for my personal intention and once we're out doing my yoga practice as I teach my classes as a yoga teacher
