I've had several juicers, and taking 20 seconds to cut celery into "C" shapes has also worked beautifully for me, to stop every juicer from clogging with the fibers :) Currently using an Omega, love it!

Sir, you are brilliant. Almost tossed my Huron juicer after the last time I used it. I thought it was too old because it kept getting clogged. It just needed your great technique. So glad I found this video! When my Huron dies eventually, I will be purchasing my new juicer from you. Thanks again. 🙏🏽

I also bought the VSJ843 per your recommendation Nov 2019. I followed your instructions exactly to cut celery into very small pieces and it also worked great at the beginning. I also washed my juicer immediately after using it. However, the screen later got calcium buildup all over and would not juice well anymore. I also tried deep cleaning per your instructions, soaking it in a vinegar and water mixture. However, the vinegar and water mixture ruined the rubber plug underneath the main container and the rubber in the middle of the container. It will not plug into the container easily anymore unless I actually oil/lubricate the rubber first. Also, juice leaks out through the middle rubber area since the rubber doesn’t seal well anymore. I contacted Omega about replacing the both rubber plugs. They want to charge me over $10 to ship the tiny little rubber plugs, which costs a lot more than the actual rubber plugs themselves. I asked if they could just mail it using USPS in an envelope, which would only cost $0.44, but they said their standard shipping cost is approximately $10+. What kind of good customer service is that?! I would NOT recommend the Omega VSJ843 to anyone who is wanting to juice mostly celery everyday. Plus, I did not like their customer service.
Sept 2020, I ended up purchasing a Pure juicer to replace my VSJ843. The Pure juicer has its pros and cons for celery juicing but I think it’s a whole lot better than the Omega VSJ843. With the Pure juicer, I no longer have to worry about calcification buildup preventing me from juicing.

It is a nightmare. I used it for 3 months and gave up. Now a year later the Nama J2 came out and I tried it based on John’s review ( like I did when I got the Omega) and finally I have the juicer of my dreams. I am maintaining a cancer free body and with the Nama I feel confident I can do it without becoming so dissatisfied that I would give up. I’m hoping I can get Omega to exchange this one for their latest model that is similar to the Nama J2 which has revolutionized the juicing game. The Nama is even better than the Green Star twin gear Pro which will no be sitting on the shelf.

The VSJ steadily declines over time because the hopper degrades. I bought about 10 of these for family and friends, they all follow the instructions, and everybody has the same issues.
You can extend the life of the hopper by scraping out the inside of the auger every 10 minutes, because produce buildup there is what causes it to grind against the hopper. This is a pain, but it eventually becomes fairly quick and is much better than a loose auger. You can also keep backup hoppers on hand; they're pretty cheap and it's a pain waiting for warranty replacement when they inevitably break. This is really an inherent design flaw of vertical juicers, but is worse for the VSJ because the auger is the primary elimination path for the pulp.
After 5 years I gave mine away because it broke way too often. I now use a Greenstar for firm produce and vacuum blender juicing for fruit. I no longer worry constantly about the juicer breaking again, and I consider these far superior to the VSJ in every way.

I discovered that the problem with my Omega vsj843 juicer was the screen. When I looked at it closely many of the fine little holes were never stamped through during production. When I purchased another one, the juicer functioned much better because less of the holes were messed up, and clogged.

John you’re an amazing guy. Thanks for your info as always honest opinions. Sadly, I chose the wrong juicer when I bought this 8 years ago maybe…..as a busy mom I don’t want to have to chop everything and use in alphabetical order 😂 I get your point- it’s different for everyone. I chose wrong for me.
My Grandma Joy always used her horizontal champion juicer- back in the 80’s - taught food demos at her fasting spa, made fruit ice cream at the end of the week. People ooh’d and ahh’d at how easy it was. So when I got this juicer is was shocked how much harder it was than back in the 80’s lol.

Since I bought a similar kind of slow juicer (Forbes) I use it everyday. Mine turns the other way around, I don't know why.
I wouldn't use it by the way for juicing green stuff like cucumber, those leaves because they can be used in a blender and that keeps everything in the juice. Fibers, etc. I only use the juicer for hard fruits and vegetables like apples, carrot, etc. Orange can be pressed with manual presser and we can keep the pulps also.

First: my juice recipe is Carrot, Celery, Red Beets, and Gala Apples.
This juicer was amazing for appx 1 year. During that year I would make 1/2 gallon of juice twice each week.
The time required for this amount of juice has increased due to having to stop multiple times to clean the screen and the wet pulp caught in the auger. There is also more pulp making its way through the screen into the strainer I use at the mouth of the jar I use to store the juice.
Looking at Amazon reviews, it seems this clogging problem is pretty common. I've soaked the screen in citric acid as you recommend. I've scrubbed the metal screen with a copper scrubber. Any other suggestions?

John have u ever juiced prickly pears? I’ve juiced them with centrifugal juicer, but I’m looking to upgrade to slow juicer. I’m leaning toward the Kuving C7000. The seeds are so HARD and small in the prickly pears I wonder if they can get in the motor and if I would be better off getting horizontal, or that vacuum blender I’ve seem u demo a few times. That sucker looks awesome, but a little expensive.

I've got it and it's good, easy to clean use and I probably use it the most often but my Green Star horizontal auger is much better... This one is small and convenient but does not do everything well, I know when to use it and when to bring out the Green Beast. If you know how to use it like John it will do just about everything. So mostly it's ok but in my opinion, don't buy it as your only juicer. It's convenient to just mostly drop the stuff in when the horizontal auger takes some work but does a better job...

I use my Omega VSJ843 juicer by John’s recommendation just like this and have had no issues. I did have a big issue with trying to do coconut milk after blending the coconut in the blender and then putting it in the juicer. It got clogged from the heavy thick coconut oil it makes. Wont do that again. LOL. To clean everything: baking soda!!! Baking soda only. I use it to scrub all the parts and they come out like new again. When the plastic looks cloudy and the screen looks dirty, just use baking soda paste and 🎉❤

The juice flap on my 843 broke off last year. Due to the pandemic and staffing issues, it took 2-3 weeks between each email I sent them to process my claim. It was about 6 weeks to get the replacement part. They sent me the whole bowl, not just the flap so Omega is very honorable in upholding their warranty even if it is slow. If you bought the juicer from John, email him directly on the website. He's amazing at getting back to you, following through and gives the best customer service. What can be a problem with the horizontal Omega juicers is that the auger can get stuck inside the screen so tightly, I don't even think "Superman" could separate them. It happened to me when I was juicing some leafy greens including Plantain which may have been too stringy... and I had to get Omega to replace both parts. If it weren't for the 15 year warranty, I would have been out of luck and would be forced into buying another juicer. As it was, getting the parts replaced was a project.
