- Sorry for the inconvenience of re uploading this. I had to mute one of my favorite notes in this video :(
Gaither Music 🤦♂️
Here’s a compilation of gospel low notes C2-Bb0. A live Bb0, crazy stuff. That’s Steve Cross and Nic Val for you.
Had this planned for last week, but school got in the way of editing time. Anyways, here it is now.
Thanks for Watching, sorry for any mistakes, and of course, the muted clip :)
While perhaps not the lowest, George Younce will forever be one of my favorites.
I agree,I love listening to George singing
George could actually SING while low
That's it he/whoever represent the spot 💯💪🙏
My all-time fave!
Absolutely Ben!!
I once stood shoulder to shoulder with George Younce on stage, and I can attest that he needed no mic to hit those notes. I played many times for London Parris, he was a beast. But the undisputed, most amazing was Leroy Abernathy. He taught many of these great bass singers. I sat beside him on a piano stool and heard him clearly, in perfect intonation, hit the lowest note on the piano keyboard, effortlessly. And LOUD!
My all-time favorite bass singer is George Younce. He wasn't just low, his voice was smooth and had a lot of warmth. Plus he was a real gentleman.
I totally agree. Singing low notes that are barely musical just to show you can is not something I like much. If they don't sound good, who cares about the physical feat of "sort of hitting" the note so you can have some meaningless "record."
I wondered how many time I would see J.D Sumner on here lol. That man shook the floor
Yes he did. Seeing him live as a kid was an experience. It shook my whole body, I’ll never forget that feeling.
Sumner. Not Summers.
I saw him twice. The first time I saw him with Elvis in 1977. He rattled the entire Civic Center. The second time was around 1985 at an outdoor gospel sing. Actually met him and got him to sign a cassette cover.
Takes several packs a day to keep the glottal fry this deep.
@@tannertuner That might have been an auto-correct issue.
@@tannertuner Was this the Hartford Civic Center?
What’s amazing is that when the human voice gets down that low in the register the vocal cords are moving so slowly it starts to sound like a big cat growl!
Yep. There is a video by Geof (I forget his las name), and one of the techniques he offers in the lesson is the "growl" for tones G1-B0
Naming some because I don’t know all.

The difference, I believe, is that many can hit a low note...but JD could carry a melody in that low range and stay there. Few are the bass singers that can get in and stay in the lowest of range and sing and stay in tune.... JD seems to be the standard for comparison...
That’s Exactly Right! Not many can do that! JD did & did it perfectly!
I agree that JD Summer and George Yount are my favorite.
Agreed 🙏
J.D.Sumners is simply the best bass singer ever !! No one can touch him !! lol
I believe that Elvis Presley agreed with you! 😊
Maybe in southern gospel
Yes he is
Nic Val doesn’t hit low notes. He sings them. Look him up! Jd is amazing and one of the greats. Nic can give him a run for his title.
He used gospel music I had rather see him not trying to be religious in Abbeville ga.in 1998 I was in group that opened for him to me gospel music is entertainment don't try to.preavhn
It was 1985 at the National Quartet Convention in Nashville, I was back stage and They just gave George Younce , Bass Singer of the year. As George leaves the stage he walks past JD, JD says how did you win that again ???? George says, JD, every time you sing you sound like your burping... The whole room we were all in busted out... True Story !
lol
Raydeen Reece of the Kingnmen and JD Sumner of the Stamps Quartet and George Younce of the Cathedrals are my lifetime favorites.
Raydean! Yes!
That’s 3 of the best!
You chose three great ones, for sure!!
you: “sorry for any mistakes”
also you: *makes no mistakes*
in all seriousness, this is not only amazing, but this is probably the first accurate low note vid i have seen!! good stuff!
that third b1 was amazing, b1 is one of my favorite notes to hear someone sing and that legendary man just solidified my opinion
So many impressive singers but honestly I’m ALWAYS blown away by Ken Turner and Steve Cross. Also I didn’t know until recently quite how low Kreis is capable of.
Ken Turner is great. Mikhail Zlatopolsky, who is not on the list, is the most impressive in my opinion, because not only could he hit a B0, he could be heard hitting a B0 over an entire choir. (The song for the B0 is called "Prayer for the Dead" in case you're curious).
How we praise the Lord for creating voices in all ranges, especially the bass voice! Thanks for this compilation --it's wonderful!
I’ve always loved Tim Duncan since I heard him at our church with Masters Voice
12:22 He sounds like a giant castle door made of iron that just closed. That's insane
That's what a C1 should sound like!! Not some fluttering weak fry.
Reuben Thomas Yepp! Exactly right!! JD was the best at hitting it imo, he could even go down to a G0, I think that’s a 5th below the C1
@@BecauseHeLives39 Well Zlatopolsky could ,and presently Alexander Ort can sing that C1 over a Choir, but I get what you are saying.
Reuben Thomas I ain’t never listened to em lol, totally forgot they existed, I’ve heard basically everyone talk about em tho. They must be good for everyone to talk about em
@@BecauseHeLives39 You should Immediately!!! To have an idea of what his voice sounds like listen to his voice here ua-cam.com/video/3woNclYOX38/v-deo.html. He isnt even trying to go low in this.
@mattfouch is an exceptional bass singer and doesn’t necessarily get the recognition he deserves. He’s a really good bass singer, but an even better man.
Love George Younce!! My favorite will always be JD Sumner!
Amen
2:59 the smoothest chest note I have ever Heard
Yes, sounds great
Pls work this time lol. But once again, London Paris is my favorite. Resonance down to G#-G1
And hits a F1 (and probably a Eb1) in this song.
ua-cam.com/video/cNyzPlYdOso/v-deo.html
london parris i snot my favoritw
Steve Cross B Flat 0 was so perfect
To quote Elvis .. " somebody stop jd .. he's breaking the speaker phone .. stop him "" hahaha
the second bass is so nice, i love the soft bass style
His name is Gene McDonald
@@Robin-ij6ks We attended a GVB concert and Bill Gaither introduced Gene as the "dean" of bass singers. I became an instant fan of his voice!
Home Free...sings gospel, country, everything n has a great bass singer
The very first man that came up on the screen got his start in Texas. I was at a small church there for a gospel singing and the quartet he was performing with did their numbers and he hit keys so deep he made the walls of the building rattle. The folks got so excited hearing him they shouted.
Was it Masters Voice?
Tim Riley and Christian Davis. 2 of my favorite bass singers in southern gospel
2:00, 6:40, 9:58, 10:15, 12:03, 12:14, ... JD Sumner
great compilation, but JD is the Master. He got me into bass playing and singing ... though I'll never match his octave, I appreciate his steady tone and control throughout. Never sounds like a bullfrog unless he has sinus congestion. ;)
nice vid.
Thanks for that video man! I just found out I'm a C2-bass singer! In the morning or when fasting I can reach as low as B1, but that's it. Thanks for this uploading Cole Fountain!
Richard Sterban, JD Sumner, Nic Val my favorite and Herold Ried
Got a point,, Richard sterban and jd for sure
J.D.Sumner and George Younce...when I saw the title gospel bass singers I wanted to see if they're in video...and that guy from Ernie Haase band...but I saw them...awesome singers all of them
That last clip was INSANE WHAT
Steve Cross is a legend. Shame it's so hard to find a lot of his music UA-cam.
Richard Sterben, Armond Morales, and the bass singer for Gold City are my favorites.
These dudes sound like some ginormous organ pipes, good LORD
I don't see Armond Morales (Imperials) in the video or comments. He was known as the smoothest bass singer, so maybe not that low - but I don't know. (Still the best IMO)
The Vintage Gospel Lads, Ron was incredible
When the lady said "Oh My God" how cute.
my late husband was a bass man he adored J.D.
Bass singers always calm me!
Even the c2 just. Wow Gene McDonald is insane
That's very very very very nice love it
(and love the Bb0 xD)
Hitting it and holding it is much more impressive than touching it for a split second.
Didn’t realise how many views this got. Congrats!
Tim Duncan, George Younce, JD Sumner Especially❤
What a amazing compilation!!! Very happy for seeing a brazillian, Junior Trovao, on the video!!!
Tim Riley will always be #1 for me
That c1 jd did in 12:15 literally has no fry in it. How is this humanly possible. Its so clear .
Because his Vocal cords are super large and he can extend his chest range down to G0
Tim Riley's A1 Was Beastly. That Is So Hard To Do.
I can’t stumoch signature sound with all that show off entertaining.
I hear ya! George and Glen would not approve!! They are embarrassing!
If I am not mistaken JD Sumner holds the Guinness record for hitting and holding the lowest note.
God bless them it's really hard to keep up.
J.D. at
1:56 - Christmas Carol of Love
6:37 - Christmas Carol of Love
9:56 - Turn your radio on (Bill Gather)
10:11 - Wayfaring Stranger
12:01 - Walk that Lonesome Road (The Masters V)
12:10 - Way Down ( Joseph Anthony)
that last one is insane
it will be better if you add gene mcdonald's lonesome road but i always learn new things from your videos. For ex: Tim Duncan F#1 Jeff Champan C#1
The young guy who used to sing with Dailey and Vincent (with the crazy hair) was the best I ever heard. I THINK he might have been pictured here, but didn't get any name recognition. I would have recognized his name if I saw it.
His name is Christian Davis.I saw him when he was with Dailey and Vincent. My great-grand daughter was with me and since then she has called him "the tuba".
George Yancey Harold Reed and J.D Sumner are my favorite Bass Singers as well as My Grandfather who could sing 🎤 Bass
My Grandfather, when he was in his 60's and 70's, was at home in B1-D2 with perfect tone and pitch and regularly stayed there when he was singing hymns in church.
True,with JD.
What's the name of the man in a brown suit?
I think singing a good note is so much more important than going for "records" singing low notes that are barely musical (if at all). I love George Younce best; J D Sumner is another good one. They sing low notes, but remember that they are performing music, not trying to set Guinness Book records.
Oh good
Well shit I wanted to be the first to use Steve cross’ Bb0
It is very annoying that you’ve used a bunch of clips I wanted to use for the first time haha but neat video
Amazing voices!
I am a bit disappointed that this video featured very little from George Younce, and nothing at all from Harold Reid of the Statler Brothers.
George Younce is my all time favorite bass singer, he also was a great story teller.
George singing "Ticket to Paradise" is pretty strong.
Agree. They may not be the lowest but I think the best
Or even the bass from the Blackwood brothers.
William Bobo was the heaviest and the fullest basser known to man! You should've added him!
Kendall Kent damn man I completely forgot :(
I may do a video for him exclusively in the future
Cole Fountain I have everything he ever recorded

What's the song at 0:01
Uau !!!!!! Lindos, maravilhosos
The sounds scares the demons (dems) away
I will never be able to figure out why Tim Storms is considered a bass singer. He literally whispers
He is bass, but he sucks at singing
Is vocal chords are roughly twice the size of a normal bass singer, given his small stature, means he does not have much room left in his throat to project like most people can. His bottom is almost endless, and despite poor critics, it's all natural well past the -3rd octave. His live music is much much better than his recordings, especially when he sings with other bass singers. It gives a good comparison to just the sheer depth of his actual voice compared to other great basses like Rodney Brit. Rodney is a freak, but compared to Storms, is just a child like noise.
@@samuelcurtis7470 ...Herb Redd was 5'5'' and a bass legend
@@samuelcurtis7470😂
@@samuelcurtis7470 Vocal range has nothing to do with stature and height.
Bradley Walker sings bass doesn't he?
Obviously you should have mentioned their names and probably the songs that they were singing....😜......yeah, right?
Thank you! This would’ve been a life saver with a couple of these.
J. D. Summers quietly shook the ground 😎😎😎
Sounded like an earthquake!
My Grandfather passed away in 2005 he will always will be missed
the kind of the bass singers is george younce!!!
he didn't just burp and make noise like some folks do
George Younce, my favorite, but love Matt Fouch! Richard Steban, and Gene MC Donald!!!! 😍
What was that second song and group? I’ve never heard this one!
I’ve met many of these wonderful bass singers in person over the years and let me tell you what a wonderful opportunity.
I think it’s Gold City and “He’s Not There”
9:26 was way too jazzy gawd dayum
The lowest Bass singer lives in Southern Illinois.
I can't think of his name right now. He holds the record . Lot of the groups won't let him on because they are jealous of him.
That’s the issue I have with Southern Gospel music. It’s like a technical competition of how low or how high you can sing.
Can you send the Steve Cross Bb0
I believe this is it ua-cam.com/video/B0htb6iR_X0/v-deo.html
To me, back 15 or 20 years ago, Richard Sterban was hands the best....
I Truly feel that showing just how low you can get or high with your voice takes away from the song. Also when they play around while singing a gospel song is inappropriate. It’s a of worship not a comedy show. For example a group is singing amazing grace. Well during the song they start kidding around and laughing while singing.
George Younce, Jeff Chapman, Tim Riley are top 3
Where's Big Chief ? JD & Big Chief couldn't be beat !
A1 is soprano for JD
F1 is counter-tenor for JD.
It would have been nice to identify these bass singers.
These are all great. But I wonder about the B naturals when there are musicians. Good musicians can play in the key of B. Us normal people have trouble with that. I wonder if the playback speed is off and it's a C or Bb?
What about Paul downings, he’s not to be messed with! Cross is the smoothest at c1
Can't believe you left out Rodney Britt (ACAPELLA)!
Sweet
Tim is the BEST!!
Very view are around know and days
Very enjoyable video but I wish you could have identified the bass singers.
12:59 - The most impressive part of this is that he comes right in on it and is perfectly on pitch. He doesn't slide down to the low Bb or even jump down from the octave above. That's a crazy level of control.
true cuz if you slide down from like a bb1 u just feel when its right and where to stop but to just come in and hit it right on the dot and not have to adjust a single bit with that insanely low note is just mind blowing. its actually insane how you can have that much control to know how to contract perfectly to produce a bb0 like that. its insane
Please tell me I’m not the only person that think Tim Duncan and Christian Davis look similar for some reason
The hair.
Tim Riley is my favorite.
B1 is soprano for JD!
😂,,got that right
JD Sumner was the standard ,,the iconic bass voice,,Jeff Chapman formerly with Kingdom Heirs is a tremendous bass singer,,George Younce,Tim Duncan,Paul Harkey,,,,,
The B1 is the perfect metal note
What is the name of the song of the second one that Gene McDonald's in?
12:25 - looks like someone ticked ol' JD off!
Bradley Walker ain't too shabby, either.
