    ULTIMATE TORQUE MONSTER! Why The Honda VTX 1800 Was WAY Ahead of Its Time...
    This is a 2006 Honda VTX 1800 R that I bought and sold a few years back. Today I'm going over a bit of the history of the VTX 1800 line and sharing how much I paid for this bike as well as what I sold it for. I'm a huge fan of the Honda VTX1800, especially the "F" model. The bikes are total torque monsters with close to 120 ft lbs of torque, and they were way ahead of their time in my opinion. These were, at the time of their release, the largest production engine available.

    Love my VTX 1800. The original "Power Cruiser". Gobs of power and torque, great looks, compliant ride, smooth and predictable handling, rock solid Honda reliability and you can literally pick them up for a song at this point. There are really no downsides to owning this bike.

    I bought a brand new 2007 VTX 1800T in August of 2009. It was still sitting in the Honda warehouse and had never made it to a dealership. Needless to say I got a heck of a deal on it. Fast forward to today,( I actually rode it today), it now has 88,500 miles on the odo and has NEVER had one problem! My other bike is a 2020 Ultra Limited which I like but I love the VTX. Honda really knows how to build a product for the long run!

      @@rahulrane1658 I came from a CBR 600 and a Shadow 750. Get the 1800 if you have not already bought one. You will not regret it. If you need to crush any doubt, try to test drive one. The first day I drove mine, I was sold. Be easy on the throttle the first time coming from a Shadow cause the bike will throw you if you try to roll the throttle like your used to on the Shadow. If the pure power and torque does not immediately have you sold on the bike then the beautiful sound of that engine and the comfort, stability and smooth as butter shifting will. I was lucky to catch a friend that regrettably bought an HD, so to keep the 1800 from sitting up he sold it to me for 2200 dollars but after owning it, I would easily pay 5k and maybe even 6k dollars for another one if mine was ever stolen or wrecked. That is the only way I would ever get rid of my 1800. stolen or wrecked. Its a joy to ride and I would not ever sell it. It'll get up and go and spin the back tire and the front wheel will even leave the road on a good jump but at the same time its a strong smooth reliable bike that is relaxing and comfortable to enjoy a slow sunday drive. Also, shaft driven and fuel injected just to top off an already great engine. And I swear that thing will pull a bass boat with the torque its got.

      @@impirepro06 thank you. I have since purchased a VN2000 and a C109RT, and this one may still be on the cards :-). It is not because I do not like those 2, but one more won't hurt, plus it will be a different flavour of Japanese !!

      @@rahulrane1658 haha. Nice. Well take a test drive on the Vtx 1800 if you get the chance. It’s definitely an impressive bike. Hard to beat those Honda motors too. They just won’t die and require so little maintenance. Just the basic maintenance will keep them running forever it seems like

    Glad you gave the VTX1800 the respect that it deserves. Been riding over three decades, owned almost every brand, and the current 2002 VTX1800C is my favorite one of them all. It's a torgue monster at city and highway speeds. I'm also partial to its linked braking system. Depressing the rear brake activates a third of the front one too. Second favorite bike is the mighty Valkyrie, Honda's original power cruiser. Rubber side down, Jon.

    • @jeffkeni
      @jeffkeni 4 роки тому

      I had been on a quest for a Valk when I came across an 1800. The ergos killed it for me along with the linked brakes. The exhaust note was not to my liking. Funny, to me they sound badass at idle with a good pipe but when you get them wound out at speed, in my opinion they sound horrendous. To me, that is. It was a year or so later when I finally did find a Valkyrie. I still like and respect the VTX1800...just not a bike for me.

    • @mr.solitude3352
      @mr.solitude3352 4 роки тому +1

      @@jeffkeni Ergos is everything when you're a young geezer like me. What felt comfortable when I was a young whippersnapper no longer does now. My knees appreciate the ergos of a VTX1800 now more than the Valk. cycle-ergo.com/ They are still the two best power cruisers around, IMO. Keep the rubber side of your Valk down, Jeff.

    Just found a mint as new 2002 VTX1800S3 with 2,448 miles on it. Wow what a sweet rig. Had to change the tires as they were 20 years old still looked new but thought better safe than sorry. I’ve been on Harleys the last 20 years. I’ll NEVER go back!

      haha. I have always liked HD bikes but never owned one. Cant beat the realibilty of a honda motor and Honda bikes being half the price, I just could never bring myself to buy one. I was lucky to catch a co worker who had an 1800 and he had just got a brand new HD so he cut me a huge deal on his 1800 with 12k miles. paid him 2200. only thing wrong was one of the front calipers was siezed up. simple caliper rebuild and it was good as new. Only problem ever had since was that starter solenoid due to the way the vtx has the power draw in the headlight set up. but found that 12 dollar lawn mower solenoid thats been working for years as a replacement on it.

      Think that should become the motto for the VTX 1800 "She's a beast and I will never get rid of her". Seems like everyone that owns one says the same. I have the VTX 1300. not nearly as much of a beast, but still a damn good bike. The 1800's are an awesome bike and have as much giddy up and go as nearly anything on the market today. Only thing that could be better is the suspension, long distance rides are doable on the VTX, and there are better bikes on the market now. But it took 15 years to catch up.

    I bought a VTX 1800R last spring with a trike kit on it ( I pretty much have to go trike or trike kit these days with a bad knee ) and I love the bike , plenty of shit n git for me and super comfortable with floor boards and highway pegs to go back n forth with .... the ONLY complaint I have is I spend a ton of time at gas stations , the fuel economy is not great and the gas tank is smaller than it looks so you are having to stop sooner than most others

      @impirepro06 2 роки тому

      Never rode a trike but interested to know how the 1800 engine handles the set up. I know with mine riding 2 up feels no different the riding solo. Do you notice any difference in power in the trike version opposed to the two wheel setup?

Fun but uncomfortable on long rides. The 1800 is like a muscle car crossed with the smooth ride and shifting of a cadillac. I was sold on the my first test drive before I shifted out of first. Still love getting on it from a dead stop and letting back end slide around while the tire spins. Just a great bike. Fuel injection and drive shaft is the icing on top of a monster engine

      Harley has got to be the short(for all you market traders out there) of a lifetime right now. That company is as good as cooked. The baby boomers(their only real clientele) are too old for bikes now, and nobody gives a sh$( about a $2,000 custom paint job.
