That's correct, BMW will cover all emissions related repairs on your SULEV BMW, for 15 YEARS and 150,000 miles! Ive known about this for a while, but haven't made a video on it yet! At my old shop we would always send customers to the dealership if we thought the repair would be covered. Ive seen entire timing chains and engines be covered! Now it's only supposed to apply if the car was first purchased in an applicable state, like CA, but ive seen stories online of people all over the country working with their service advisors and submitting documentation to BMW North America to get it covered so its absolutely worth looking into if you have an engine that applies. This covers the M56, which is out of warranty by age, the N51, the N26 and the B46 BMW engines.
If you have any of these engines, I highly suggest you familiarize yourself with this warranty information. With a good service advisor to guide you at the dealership, you can save thousands upon thousands of dollars!

Nice work Alec. It’s important to note that more than likely the dealer will ask for the customer to cover diag in case the repair is not covered for whatever reason. This then gets waived once they confirm the failure and that it’s covered under warranty.

your right it’s about $200 for the diag and they do give your money back once they find the problem , i have brake sensor on and my tire pressure on , also had a code for “engine running lean” going to take it in to my local dealer probably this weekend
Great note! im always the one recommending them to the dealer, never taking it there myself so that part didnt cross my mind.

Couple notes for sulev
Requires vin to be sulev which is determined by where the car was originally designed to be sold
Also requires registered owner to have the vehicle in represented state
great point! ive seen some stories online of people not in warranty states that were still able to argue and get coverage, I think if you were to contact BMW NA and argue your case you can get away with a lot

I bet! Personally the N51/N52 is one of my all time favorite engines, something about them I really enjoy working on them. They are relatively easy and reliable

I haven't replaced my speed sensor in 4 old BMW's. They usually last a long time since, they are just sitting there. If error codes and cabling is fine, the bearing is usually failing. Leaking bearing grease and tolerance may cause pickup issues or the bearing may be rubbing into the speed sensor. @122k Miles, bearing grease are usually leaking already with dirt buildup. I usually replace all bearings @80K Miles and clean speed sensor.
thats a great point! I never thought to think about the wheel bearings pushing grease, next time i get my hands on that car ill have to check for play.

@DayOffDIY me too. 2 fluids ,1 set of bushings and a set of tires to go. Ccv and vac leak codes resolved. Inspection passed. Oh yeah and I need a window regulator. Seems like a long list but really I can see a light.

hard to find the list of parts covered as 'emissions related'. But, it is clearly worded ,there are emissions and also defect related sulev warranty. anyone who owns one of the sulev cars can see their warranty by going to the bmw site and checking

Hi were can I put the vin to see if my car is covered is a 2011 328i sulev with 100,000 miles
So i got a 2011 N51 328i with 108k miles and the sensor on my radiator went bye bye which meance i gotta replace the whole thing , so in my book it has the same sulev warranty form u showed, so my question is i love in texas can i get it fixed here and claim my warranty or would i have to drive to one of those states u mentioned in the video my car is from cali

My N51 radiator conked out at 15 and 1/2 years with only 94000 miles, dealer said too bad
My 2006 and 2007 Honda Civic Hybrids were covered by that same California warranty. Today’s hybrids and electrics don’t seem to go beyond 10 years now that their technology is proven to last.
Gotta love a big fat warranty. Everything I buy is always out of warrranty... one day ill buy a newer car, once this channel takes off :)

I got a bmw 328i 2008 sulev at 120k’ miles, will i be covered still? was working on my radiator, because my radiator are leaking and it blew out. Now its sitting outside the parking.
if you're under the 15 year 150k mile warranty you should be covered! radiator is covered because its a special emissions radiator too

Don’t normally get engine management light on for wheel speed sensor that was surprising to me but $275 an hour for labour that’s proper daylight robbery
right? crazy. Yeah the light must have come on from the EGS, the transmission module. It had a fault for the speed sensor too.

how do i get rid of my ticking
if you have a similar engine, N51, N52, it can sometimes be a dry lifter tick, theres a procedure of holding the RPMs at 3k for a specific amount of time to build up pressure. Id give it a google
@@DayOffDIY yea i got the n51 i did google it and it is the lifters they just need to be bled , gonna def give the procedure a try it wasnt bad in the summer but i notice it now its getting colder in cali , also the warentee man can’t belive they listed that many parts which is great im at 118k miles gonna change the rod bearings next but was highly concerned on the tick appreciate your advice

You ever cut the oil filter open and look for material? Never saw rod bearing issues with the N52 engine really
@@DayOffDIY yes yes my guy that does my oil changes is rly good at letting me see the inside of the filter i usually change mine every 3 oil changes
I have a 2013 328 i with 155k am I covered? I’m about to fix wastegate thermostat strut suspension other things too . I’m over the mileage but I did so much much work and paid before this mileage . Do you think I could be reimbursed if I was under warrenty ?

You can get reimbursed if you submit a claim
