When Saddam Hussein held a public purge

  • In 1979, Saddam Hussein publicly accused 68 of his own party members of treason. But it was a lie. A way to get rid of people he considered rivals, and who he feared could cause problems in the future.

      C'mon, fess up. You don't need no list. lol You are a professional, went to college. You didn't spend your greatest amount of time as a kid growing in a trailer park with a couple "Hypochondriac" parents who refused to work, but did always enjoy drinking alot of beer instead. Priorities: Me, me, me, me, that bum i share my bed with. and of course my kid. I'll sell him to ya cheap. He says he likes you. we can always have more kids. lol I don't know how you do it. But glad you do. can you imagine a more perfect world than everyone in the world are teachers. Finally, no more dummies on the planet.. lol.

    It's difficult to find good sources online, but an interesting addition to this purge is Adnan Hamdani.
    He can be found in lists of the purge but what is often missing is that he was a close friend of Saddam and was expected be second him command. It's said that Saddam personally executed him as a show of force, likely due to his opposition to the Iran war. He even grieved the loss of his friend and provided a pension for his wife.
    Quite different to others that disagreed with him. The health minister who also very moderately opposed the war was tortured to death, chopped up, and delivered to his family in piece, with a funeral not allowed.
    To me this shows that he clearly killed his friend for political power, even though it hurt him.
    Hell of a way to kick off a purge.

    • @ghostirq
      @ghostirq 10 днів тому +23

      I don’t know how Adnan Hamdani is, but the people on the list were working with Hafaz alassad against Saddam. Iran started that war not the other way around. Saddam was forced into it and Al Bakr wasn’t up to it and that’s why he stepped down. Look up Hussein Ali Rtha Lashukri. He was an Iranian fighter pilot that was downed and captured near Baghdad not even the border few days before the so called invasion

His family were indeed big fans of the movie though. I am inclined to believe that Saddam clearly favored The Godfather more than any other film, largely because he has publicly compared how he leads his country to the leadership displayed in the movie Godfather on two separate occasions. Godfather was also released 10yrs+ before Scarface came out and Saddam was on the come up in power when Godfather was released in 1972, it was right before he became president in 1979. I am feeling desensitized of how much worse can a Iraqi person ever live in the country during a leader's lifespan, you are upset because you pretend to love your leader, you are fucked up because people are upset with him before things were changed like a literal trash by war that gets him a overthrown. Sometimes it just does that for some non-Iraqis who still loves him which is feeling ridiculous for it, but at least the leader does get what it deserve.

    I’m Russian and I’ve learned a lot about Stalin throughout my childhood, and not the American side of the story but the Russian side of the story. He had a famous phrase “no person, no problem”. That was his way of saying if someone COULD be a problem, kill them, then they won’t be. It’s interesting how Saddam had a similar mindset. He even had the signature hand in half of his blazer like Stalin did. I’m wondering if he took inspiration from Stalin. I wouldn’t be surprised though considering Iraq was a VERY close ally of the USSR in the 70s.
