The Auto taxi Driver was stopped by the police in your journey for not wearing the uniform . You can see the back window police patrol was questioning him . Bad people like him everywhere. It’s a very good vid , Chris well done for your work .
My company put me at Leela palace Chennai for about a month when I was relocating to Chennai.
The place was the definition of Lux. The staff was quite nice and very welcoming. They used to ask me how I was every day I stayed there, they helped me out in getting cabs and stuff. They took feedback after a couple of days and they really did reflect on it.The sea view was stunning and all in all, definitely worth the price they charge you. Everything is hygienic and all in all very comfy place to stay if you can spend the money.

Chris that is the Broken Bridge, hardly survived a few years of build, has remained as seen for about 40 years now, it was built as a walking bridge between Marina -Santhome beaches and Elliot’s beach at Beasant Nagar.
That "freeway" thingy on the estuary/beach is called Broken Bridge, was once connecting link between the Marina and Elliots beach over the mouth of the Adayar river. A cyclone storm in the 70s took away a big chunk of it and it's been like this pretty much since then. Great place for young people to hang out on and great for morning photo sessions.
I been there 10 more times with my friend from france ...this place is amazing, the entire building scent is wow and so relaxing ....pool is too good with beautiful gardens all staue they put in all corner is too good ❤❤❤

Chris you should definitely visit mahabalipuram which is about 30-40 kms from thr city , and maybe pondicherry and auroville which is like a 3 hour drive down the east coast road, youll really like those spots!

It is better to take Uber/Rapido for Autorickshaws(Tuktuk). In Chennai, sometimes you have got to be extra careful. There are also good auto rickshaw drivers too.

In Chennai, Always travel only in Uber & stay minimum 3 star rated hotels.... Have your food in medium sized chain restaurants & for long travel choose only trains or other public transport.... Don't walk on road in isolated places... Keep a local friend as guide Or advisor all through your stay and let him be on constant touch with you over phone.
I got married at leela palace, one of my fav star hotels in chennai,try the jamavar restaurant for good tandoori food.

Awesome.... lila palace is a Amazing place. Everything is perfectly organize there. You have been welcomed and respected. BTW. If you are not comfortable with the chargers, you have a rights to get a decision, wheather you are get in their vehicles, so... wait and try to find a fair price person. Thats not a freeway but called Broken bridge. Rougher section is not the city but fisherman residences ..it's called foreshore estate

Know this , hard bed is good for strengthening your back structure. Auto driver charged u quadruple the amount of usual for that distance . Thats exactly why i choose cabs or buses in chennai as modes or transport .
Bengaluru and Madurai is best for Auto travel , nominal price.

From alwarpet to leela palace (MRC nagar) the tuk tuk ride price is outrageous... 200 is ok price
That was an amazing hotel for $ 170. Here in the U.S. that would be ridiculously priced.
Yes seriously! I would guess like $550 a night in the US? I was in San Francisco last year and paid $220 for a terrible spot

I’ve had similar experience in Goa India. Everywhere I travelled they tried to charge me for every step I took lol.. at the airport some one tried to charge me 100 rupees for a baggage cart.. which were free!!!!! Lol. But please understand I’ve had these experiences anywhere I’ve traveled. Mexico Jamaica etc.. all beautiful places but the poverty makes some people desperate enough to forget any moral compass they may have. Sad but I understand. Thank you for the honest review. Oh absolutely, it happens everywhere. I just always talk about those situations when they happen because so many people watch my videos then travel to those places for the first time and I want them to be aware. Trust me, people rip off tourists in every country
Auto drivers in Chennai are a standalone species. Many used to ask 200 rupees for 2 kms even a decade ago. They haven’t changed one bit.

Hey Chris, I'm the same way about forgetting to charge my phone. Do you have one of those cases that not only protect your phone, but it has a built in rechargeable battery as well? That solved my problem. My wife has one for her iphone too. You charge it with you phone in it, and when your phone dies you hit the button on the case and the case recharges your phone. Best investment I ever made and they are not expensive at all.

Well deserved upgrade after all the hassle you went through with the TUK TUK driver, he was annoying and felt entitled.But like you said, you come across dishonest people all over the World, but glad you were able to expose him and people like him.
The Hotel seems like TOP NOTCH, very clean and service seems fantastic. I will certainly visit Chennia one day to experience the good vibes and probably stay at the Hotel, but bed is paramount for a great sleep at a top notch Hotel .
