02 Ford Ranger Anti Theft Light - Fixed - Code 14

My 02 Ford Ranger had a no crank, no start issue for years, but seemed to only happen during the hot summer months. If the outside temp was over 90° the truck would not crank over and the security light would flash. I finally decided to diagnose the problem and I found out that you can watch the flashing security light and determine a code. See codes below for Anti-Theft Security issues:
1 : 3 Key code not received is the key obscured, try again with different key, key may be damaged/faulty
1 : 4 Partial code only received is the key obscured, try again with different key, key may be damaged or faulty
1 : 5 Key not programmed to PATS Programmed key
1 : 6 Faulty link between PATS and EEC v module check with FDS2000 Program key
My code was 1:4 and so I bought a new Ford OEM Transceiver Ring (Part No.: 1L5Z-15607-AA)
around the ignition and it fixed my problem. I haven't had any issues even on days where the outside temps were over 96 degrees. I hope this helps others diagnose their issues.

It’s in the description of the video: code 15 says key is not programmed to PATs security system. It sounds like the chip in the key is bad or needs to be programmed. They can do them at Ace Hardware a lot cheaper than the dealer.

No, I didn't have to reprogram it. I just changed out the transceiver ring and it start right up after I was done. If you change your key, then very likely you would need to reprogram it.
