Yes growing up in the 50s 60s 70s most of the 80s we had nationalised industries, you could see a doctor the same day, hospital waiting lists hardly existed, buses ran on time, trains mostly ran on time, there was almost full employment at least where I was born, homelessness existed but nowhere near like it does today, there were home helps, meals on wheels, old folks centres, no such thing as food banks or clothes banks or millions living in poverty and millions on housing waiting lists and millions more on hospital waiting lists, politicians destroyed this country and it was they who’ve created the crisis we live through today.

Now America is in panic because China accepted the baton and made a huge success of manufacturing and Russia after the collapse of USSR has rebuilt itself into BETTER than USA. I have lived in USA and travelled to Moscow and China (and Ukraine). Ukraine has been sacrificed as a tool of Washington against Russia.
In UK and USA we are being fed and brainwashed that Russia and China is bad, but it is NOT Russia who is attacking everyone like a mad dog. It is USA led Nato who has lost its grip. Russia and China are between 10 - 20 years in advance of the west in industry and technology, that is the reality.

The problem is, Britain no longer has a 'sense' of nation, and - in the event of war - we would certainly be home to a 'Fifth Column' that would be numbered not in thousands, but in millions. Millions of disgruntled young people, all raised in an era of toxic identity politics, all with their own 'minority victim' axe to grind, and all despising the society that gives them everything. Just as we are presently crippled by our incompetent politicians, in times of war Britain would quickly find itself crippled by this 'enemy within'. As one of the richest nations on earth we would not face any insurmountable technical or hardware problems, but we would face catastrophic failure due to this personnel issue. Battle-hardened Russian soldiers would have no interest whatsoever in debating pronoun nonsense with a group of young men waving little rainbow flags. The idea we could now fight a war with Russia is laughable!

A private in the British Army earns 23,500 pounds a year. A recruit 18,600. There is no incentive to sign up.
This is a massive part of it, the pay is absolutely abysmal. There should be significant compensation for having a poor work/life balance.
The pay is not the best. The old pension was good but has been replaced with one that is not as good, the Government always have treated the armd forces with contempt. From a disillusioned veteran.
Fewer people than ever have a sense of belonging. Many believe that the minority is prioritised over the majority, who are rapidly being replaced.
Why should indigenous Britons fight to protect incomers who may well be the enemy?

How would knowledge of his countries history assist him or her making a decision about going to war ? members of my family fought in three wars for our country two of them world wars, after the First World War my uncles were involved in the general strike to prevent the government from cutting their wages, these same working class lads that fought on the Somme, after the Second World War the working classes achieved immense social and economic gains with the introduction of the welfare state, the creation of the NHS and the nationalisation and common ownership of key industries, a land fit for heroes, what have those working class lads grandkids got today ? food banks, huge hospital waiting lists, huge energy bills, all the utilities in private or foreign hands, millions living in poverty, the history lesson young working class lads need to learn is that the rich will sacrifice the poor at the drop of a hat just like in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Young should think long and hard and so should their parents about sacrificing themselves for arms dealers and oil and energy barons, wars of the future will be more geared to securing resources for profit rather than for territorial integrity and the poor will pay the price for non of the gains, and that’s only if it hasn’t descended into a nuclear holocaust.

When he asked for an extension for St. George’s Day, it was denied as it would create problems with our ethnic brethren. There was also a London taxi driver who applied for a renewal of his licence. This was denied. Why? Because he had the Union Flag on his number plate. These stories came from the mouths of the people who were the interested parties, so are not gossip or scandal mongering.

What that veteran said speaks for how most of us Brits feel. If we felt like our government had our best interests at heart then people would happily sign up... but we need to feel like what we're fighting for is worth potentially dying for. Would i sacrifice myself for my fellow countrymen and women?... in a heart beat. Any nation that has more than 15% of its population born OUTSIDE the nation is in severe difficulty of maintaining its own culture. Currently 16.8% of people in Britain were NOT born in Britain, with the number growing daily. Any wonder British "identity" is crumbling so who is surprised that the Defence Force has difficulty in procuring individuals to serve in Defence of a Nation that has no patriotic sense of itself. Add the fact that everyone knows the disdain that Politicians and Bureaucrats show for ex servicemen and women and the difficulties they face, whilst the same Government spends $10 MILLION per day housing and financially supporting those that have illegally arrived to feed off the taxes paid by British workers. So ask yourself, why would any person of even average intelligence, risk THEIR life to perpetuate the "woke" idiocy that is Britain in 2024?.

I spent 29 years in the army and still have reserve liability, and I would tell them to do one if they try and call me up. I left the country on my last day and have no plan to return to my former homeland. Send the fighting age men landing on the beaches who get treated better than veterans are by the government.

As a 50yr old veteran having spent 23yrs in the army and been involved in 4 wars and always very proud to serve, our nation has changed beyond recognition. If asked why, i would have said, national identity, cohesive society's, low crime, help for veterans, freedom on our streets, low migration, good social services, honesty in politics, Pride in our nation and real democracy for the people, unfortunately all this has been stripped away. So i ask you, who are we being asked to sacrifice for, migrants, radical faith, self serving politicians, glutinous media companies, delusional activists, WHO. ? The average veteran my age gets no help from benefit's, no free dental, no free prescriptions, no help with housing and a pension less than someone of similar age on benefit's who gets all those things and around £800pcm for doing nothing. A train driver gets £50,000 a Sgt in the army gets £30,000. I have no doubt this comment will be censored to stop it gaining any traction. So i ask you what would one be doing it for.

I am a Brit that moved to California in 1999. When asked if I would move back to the UK, I reply that it is not the same England or a shadow of what I knew and left. It seems so much of the culture and society that made it England seems to be so corrupted by foreign influences.
For me the 'open the floodgates to immigrants' experiment has failed and harmed my country of birth. There could have been a sensible balance, but many of the so-called 'do-gooders' took England way pass that in their flawed beliefs and caused irreversible damage. And the bitter result is that the rest the UK has to pay the price of their 'failed expereiment'.
It would be like going to a foreign country for the first time and to be honest it would be at the bottom of my list.
Isobel has it nailed. Having spent almost 24 years in the army, it turned my life around from very little prospects to now being in a senior position in a private company. The armed forces can't help everyone to the same degree. Recruiting should be carried out by serving personnel at the latter stages of their career (no box ticking civvies who don't have a clue) who can give honest advice about service life and the camaraderie
Isabelle, realises the exact underlying issue with this country, anyone who objects is living in some fairyland. unfortunately multi-culturalism although looks a wonderful utopia is a complete failure and has undermines our values and sense of who we are, our country has been undermines by this bizarre paradigm.
All we have done is import all those problems here with open arms and are still doing so.
As ex forces you fight for the people around you and in some sense the country, however, if the country you live in doesn't support you why would you want to fight for it other than in self defence. We know there is a large element of the young recruiting base that don't and never will join up and put their religion first.
Im one of the 1 in 3 that dropped out during training. I was well above the average among my peers in all departments, especially physically. But, regional rivalries (manc/scouse) and religious beliefs were used against recruits, with references to bloody sunday. A lot of middle age insecure men with a maroon beret plus massive egos put in charge of young men. The 'beastings' bordered on sadistic, the whole environment was toxic and I couldn't wait to leave, how many more very capable young men left because of these wronguns they put in charge, I wonder. I now myself am middle aged and have my own very successful business, I'm still in fantastic shape and have a great life, it was a lucky escape for me. The only reason most young men flirt with the army is the lack of opportunities offered to them when they leave education and its still the same now, nothing's changed.

I would certainly have fought for the country I grew up in in the 1990s, but that country simply no longer exists. It was destroyed, not by terrorism, or by foreign dictators, or by war, or by any of the economic hard times we've experienced, it was purposefully destroyed by the British establishment. The final insult from the people who destroyed my country is that they seem to imagine that I would be willing to fight, and perhaps die, defending the hell hole that they've created and that I am now forced to live in.
Would potential invaders be any worse? Would I be just swapping one set of tyrannical dictators for another set? Who knows. Perhaps it might even actually be better!
Fight for what and for whome ? The king ? !. When you dont have a candle in the game why die for someone else. If your guaranteed a home afterwards it might be worth it otherwise its a cold shop doorway.
Britain needs a government that understands Britishness. Time to get rid of the current clowns in power, along with this workery and diversity bullcrap and going back to traditional values and principles. End of!
That is why the British people will elect Mr flip flop shortly, just a question of how big the majority will be. I think you will find his idea of what British is, differs quite a lot from our views, and the lunacy will continue.

The Army is a gift and long may it give hope in disadvantaged areas.

We have lost our identity as a country. I'm in my mid fifties and I could not point to a single unifying point we have as a nation today. We are the most divided I ever remember us being. Which is constantly being compounded by senseless and non productive illegal immigration.

How can you have conscription when we don’t know who half the young men in this country are! I was in UK last year and many places that I visited did not resembled the UK that I have learned as a youngster. Only the architecture gave me the impression that I am in Britain, but we have to understand that humans who live in a country builds its character.
