Gonsun Zan's legend: 1. Being an angry man and declare war on every neighbor. 2. Liu Bei is on the way to borrow his only general Zhao Yun so he kidnaps Zhao Yun in a fishing boat and ran south 3. Still being an angry man declaring war on every single one he met 4. Became barbarian
Gongsun Zan: Leave your homes, your wifes and your dreams First officer: O... Ok sir where are we going ? Gongsun Zan: On the most deserted and remote island you guys ever seen ! First officer: Well... that kind of sucks .... Second officer : Don't worry sir, wherever you go, we will follow you ! Nobody can stand in our way ! Gongsun Zan : Execute that man for his arrogance !
That banner should be a middle finger instead of close fist 🤣 Every Faction Leader on eastern coast: oh look a ship...*seeing the middle finger banner* Outrageous! That's an act of war!
Cao Cao: "My tactics are unmatched." Gongsun Zan: "If this is true, then I suppose I'll have to resort to unorthodox measures." *Proceeds to act as in this video*
For anyone who does not know the surname thing ST talked in 18:30. Here's what you should know. Gongsun: Grandchild ( Công Tôn in Vietnamese) Gong-tzu: Son. (Công Tử in Vietnamese) For example, Cao Pi is the 2nd son of Cao Cao. So when people meet him, they should call him Cao Gong Tzu (Young Master Cao) or Er Cong Tzu (Second Young Master - 2nd Son)
Zhao Yun using his Heirloom spear to get all of the fish at lighting speed. Then he uses his phoenix strike to cook them all. So Gonsun Zan takes away his general position because he keeps starting fires on the boat.
I'm glad Gonsun Zan gets to keep his unique administrators after Emperorship. Gonna try him out one of these days, love the Unique Units and the starting location.
I remember doing a run exactly like this (save for the Total War part), with Gongsun Zan and all. I'm looking forward to seeing somebody who actually knows what he's doing take this challenge on! Good luck, ST!
Qu Yi was definitely one of Yuan Shao's most distinguished generals historically. Unfortunately he gets overshadowed by Wen Chou and Yan Liang in the Romance - two generals who aren't that accomplished historically but their prowess greatly embellished to make Guan Yu's killing of them seem much more significant. Would love to see Qu Yi get more recognition in Total War or even Dynasty Warriors but highly unlikely sadly.
Love the historical background info that you give. I wish our boy Gongsun Zan got more screen time in the 2010 show though. I wanna see those white horses in action!
The details of 3K is one of the reason I loved this game. Notice how all cavalry units under Gongsun Zan are riding white horses? Also, we can see the different formation and responsiveness to your order between militia/irregular vs trained/professional units. The militia takes longer to respond to your order (1-2 seconds of delay) as they move out rank by rank rather than a cohesive unit. The opposite can be seen when you order an infantry unit, they usually respond right away and more discipline. Just my observation that I wanted to point out. If anyone has seen any other details that make you impressed with the game, please let me know.
I spent so many trying to find Cao Cao in my campaign since I had taken all his lands that I could see. Turns out he was hiding in Taiwan. I didn't know Taiwan was on the campaign map. They should really highlight the island with big red arrows.
Wu sent like 60 dudes in Taiwan, they were unsuccessiful in convincing the locals to pay tribute, so they just kept shooting at them but eventually started getting sick from local diseases and ran off with a random bunch of dudes they kidnapped.
There is an easier way to find the administrators once they disappear off of your list. On the left side of the screen where you see your court, you can select the administrator and click the little guy icon in the top right of their stats and such.
Guo Jia, the most "common" unique. Had a MOH campaign, run all the way to fight nanman after wiping the 3 zhang brothers, and guess who show up in my pool the very next turn...lol
Just started watching this but I already know this is going to be a blast :) This is the first video of your channel that I'm watching, and it's great.
Was not expecting a this is total war scenario, this is gonna be extremely interesting. Suggest you invest some points into the spy tree when you rank up your faction so that our historical Pokémon can be done easier.
This is going to be a very challenging series. Very eager to see your plan on the achievement as I haven't been this brave since Empire Total War....~Cheers! And good luck!
I'm always amazed how you know every intricate detail about every single person that pops up in your campaigns, even if it's just some rando with generic portrait nobody heard about.
Its pretty nice that you already finished one this is total war. It won't affect the achievement if you happen to forget one turn. Looking forward to this campaign
Just a little hint about the missing administrators, you don't have to search for them in the characters list. On the court screen, there's a little bronze button next to their title on the top right of the little sheet, where you can open the big character sheet!
When you said taiwan migration in the poll i thought it was the top tier industry commandry and i was like, this dude is going for the bandits with a stack in the first 15 turns while declaring war on everyone!
I think I've only played Gongsun Zan once, and in that game Yuan Shao came for me early, I had a small army acting as a decoy and Gongsun in ambush. I just defeated Yuan Shao and then used night fighting to chase down, capture and executed Yuan Shao. I had massively overextended myself in that attack with Gungsun in enemy territory so I peaced out with Yuan Tan including a marriage between factions after that we got along pretty well.
if you are trying to get the "this is total war" achievement be wary of the "Marauders" faction since they dont pop up in the diplomacy screen even after you discover them and you can only declare war on them by manualy clicking on their army.
We want you, Gongsun Zan, to be our leader, our only request is that you sail us all to the poorest commandery in China immediately... Oh, and we want you to declare war on everyone we meet as well.
In Europe the last name has the same meanings, your surname can come from an object, animal, bird, from a nickname, from your dad or mom first names, from the place you were born or from your skills. In Europe, most of the surnames were appear in the last 2-300 years for commoners.
Though a lot of people would use first name like that for lack of ever having used a better term for it, there is actually a proper term for "the name that isn't the family name, no matter what order it comes in" which is Given Name.
Random Peasant: Ah what a great day sure hope that nothing bad happens. Gongsun Zan: I declare war on you as I am sailing south, I will be back for your head soon enough Zhao Yun: HELP
I am also thinking of that Robot Chicken sketch where the Emperor is going up the escalator except Gongsun Zan just says "F*ck you" from the first person he passes as he goes up.
This kinda reminds me of when I played Russia in Med 2, abandoned Novgorod, packed all my men into one rickety boat, sailed past Denmark, Britain, around Iberia, through the straits of Gibraltar, past Sicily, Italy, Crete, Cyprus before landing in Syria, attacking Antioch and then declaring it my new capital. It ended up causing Hungary and Poland to become superpowers, taking huge swathes of meant-to-be Russian territory and becoming strong enough to keep the Mongols at bay, and I allied with my Orthodox brothers in the Eastern Roman Empire, conquering Anatolia with huge f*** off cannons.
This series is going to be great. I read lots of chinese novels from qidian, currently reading back to ming dynasty. Lord of mysteries is best novel i have read up to date.
Just came here to say that Gongsun Zan's unique units become hilarious once you learn that there was a male prostitution establishment called the "White Horse Club" that was shut down a little bit before this game came out.
I actually did start w/Gongsun Zan, and it messed me up w/other factions b/c you have to invest pretty heavily into admin seats to keep all your generals happy if you want a large army.
Hehe, this is an interesting aspect. Of course, you know me well: I won't by any means leave this campaign, no matter how dull or boring it will be. I look forward for the next episodes, to see how you will develop your regions. And the clever dog hits again: let the Central Plains drain themselves in useless fights, until we arrive like saviours to save them from meaningless barbarians who like so much to play the kings!
Wow, I didn't expect you to actually go for the green reforms while doing this already difficult campaign, that's crazy. :D I really appreciate it though! Looking forward to see the rest of this campaign and how things will turn out. I wonder if you will be constant "Enemy of the Han" with all the war going on... though I guess you can mitigate that with food and public order, unless you plan to farm rebels with Tax collection in which case you are pretty much guaranteed to stay at zero Imperial Favor.
@@SeriousTrivia True but I meant more like in the later game. I don't know yet what your plans for getting peasantry income are, I just assumed there will be a lot of rebel farming in general when you start to expand?
Gongsun Xu is actually a FANTASTIC character... As a general. Awful heir but man... I built him out with the Mo Ye and some good trait rolls and he was easily a 100 resolve 100 cunning 100 expertise character. I wonder if there's some code that makes him predisposed to the brilliant trait as I've gotten it on him multiple times.
I get why the imperial crossbow cav and units like the Chen peacekeepers don’t get shoot while moving, but it’s kinda weird that normal mounted crossbows can fire while moving. Not sure if that’s intentional or a bug
An alternative opening (albeit perhaps less in theme and definitely not as good) could be to field Yan Gang on turn 2, use the movement trick to field two strategists + Gongsun Xu and run to Yizhou with them. Keep Gongsun Zan and his army north while you run south with that small army, use Yan Gang to bait Liu Yu into attacking you while you ambush with Gongsun Zan and pretty much farm him (trying to not kill his strategists) for extra money while you run south. Overall I think you get way way less money to start Yizhou up (which is bad) but at least you feel like you're "doing something" I reckon.
sounds like a great idea for a lets play. just one question will u be using expoits in the playthrough? nvm got my answer at 43:52 quite a shame.. had high hopes for a good playthrough

No other UA-camr compares. The 3 kingdoms lore by itself is worth the time. So excited for this campaign!
He really is the best for lore and cut-throat gameplay.
I agree honestly I thought him and Mister Smart Donkey are the only two who do this.
Wait till you see the crazy numbers of victories he pulled off, where he was outnumbered.
Watching this right now and I couldn’t agree more. Thanks, Serious Trivia.
Cao Cao: "My tactics are unmatched."
Gongsun Zan: "If this is true, then I suppose I'll have to resort to unorthodox measures."

Declaring war as you sail down to yizhou? Can’t help but imagine Gongsun Zan flipping off everyone on shore as his boats travel along the coast.
Gongsun Zan in the Eastern Barbarian Isle: See y'all in the next 10 years, be my guest if you wanna storm our horse proving shores!

Gongsun Zan: I have a bad news. Abandon your horses or prepare 10 months of grass for them. We will set sail
YES. Gonsun Zan is my favourite campaign ( mainly due to Zhao Yun), can't wait for more
"Recently hired? I gave birth to you." - ST 2021
The legend of Gongsun Zan the pirate king of Yizhou island😂
Last time I was this early, Sun Jian was still alive.
Me too, I have a sad feeling about him dying again, but there's a chance he can elude Liu Biao's tricks this run
Around 2% chance.
I think he already died in this video even before dong zhuo. I remember seeing the event popping up while ST was sailing down to Taiwan.
When I hear the "Alrighty" from Serious Trivia I know shit is about to go down.
Gongsun Zan is a great faction to do this with, all the late game battles are going to be gorgeous with his faction's colour scheme!
Came for the game.
Stayed for the lore.
Qu Yi was definitely one of Yuan Shao's most distinguished generals historically. Gongsung Zan, the man who inspired the Kuomimtang

"Let's mix all these challenges together", quotes Serious Trivia. My response, "have fun torturing yourself( ̄︶ ̄)".
Can't be worse than Liu Yan's campaign.
Love the historical background info that you give. I wish our boy Gongsun Zan got more screen time in the 2010 show though. I wanna see those white horses in action!
Yup.He is my favourite in the three kingdoms period, I mean Just look at those white horses!

You’ll basically be the Yuan Shu declaring himself emperor, you’ll be the Yan Dynasty!
Normal dads: "Hold my beer."
Gongsun Zan: "Hold my bow."
Good luck! I played "This is total war" only with Lu Bu and it was HARD. With Gongsun Zan it has to be even harder

This is the first video of your channel that I'm watching, and it's great.
I think the flag shows an Iron Fist. Fitting for the Iron Fist general. Gongsun Zan's VA sounds so damn cool though :)
What an amazing start! Let Total War begin! Looking forward to continuing with great interest.
Yessss finally I was waiting for an epic Gongsun Zan playthrough lets go
This is a very interesting kinda challenge. Also I'm very impressed by this guys pronunciation of the Chinese names, really good.
It helps that I am Chinese
@@SeriousTrivia oh sorry I did not know that. Your English sounds like a native English speaker. So assumed you were one.
love gongsun zan lol, keep this playthrough up !!!
Every time I come to one of these videos, I always learn so much about Chinese history. Pure bonus to the game play.

Jade dragons and white horse raiders. Let's GOOOOOO!

The Promised One, the one to unite all of China. Good luck!
I sense that building fondness and yoinking characters is going to be a prevalent theme in this LP
This game came out while I was living in Xi'an and everybody I saw do this at the time borked the pronunciations so bad and here you are
When you said taiwan migration in the poll i thought it was the top tier industry commandry and i was like, this dude is going for the bandits with a stack in the first 15 turns while declaring war on everyone!
lol it is just a humble fishing village
Lmao, there's one that's a fishing island, and the other one with the industry is Taiyuan
Be careful on what to vote for next time's polls
Man this sounds so fun challenge! Loved the video and looking forward the series 🔥
Zhao Yun gonna be busy this playthrough
True three kingdoms moment. Let the battle begin, but first, to Taiwan!

One vs All, that’s how we roll in this era of upheaval and chaos!
Dudddde I can't wait for this. Not skipping any 👌
Every time i have the willpower to escape from 3K TW....you give me other reasons to continue to play...fucking love you and this game, man...

I already have the achievement so I am not too stressed about it
Gongsun Zan was the first character I played as when the game was released. Excited to see how this unfolds!

Dong Zhuo dying on turn 8 after living past turn 100. Its good to be back to the normal state of things, lol.
Exciting!
To get good general in this challenge the captive release must be harder than capturing Lui Bei in the Romance story.
Goodluck, hope you could recruit Gan Ning soon and do some raiding for the Yizhou Development Plan ;) .
