“Let me say first that I am not a prude. But I don't approve of the nudity on the screen today. I think a woman is far more attractive in an evening dress, low cut in front so the cleavage shows, low cut in back, fit to her figure but leaving something to the imagination. I've been to colleges and asked young guys about this, and they say the same thing. The imagination is greater than the reality, I think.” - Dorothy Lamour

Yes, I believe she was Creole as well. However, I believe she falls under the original definition of Louisiana Creole.. which is a person of French and or Spanish descent. Creole is derived from the word "criollo", which means native or local, and is meant to be a class distinction. I think it's the Spanish we are seeing. I'm mixed myself, and that's my hunch, but anything is possible.

Creole is derived from the word "criollo", which means native or local, and is meant to be a class distinction. I think it's the mostly the Spanish we are seeing in her. I'm mixed myself, and that's my hunch, but anything is possible; she could very well have Black heritage in her.
My family left Haiti (came from France) and went to Jamaica, while others ventured to Louisiana; we have similar bloodlines and there are somewhat similarities (not that I look anywhere like her!). Just the overall vibe of racial ambiguity. I have naturally frizzy/kinky hair, an olive complexion, we have a similar face shape ((probably not relevant?), my lips are more full though. People often ask me, "what are you?".. bizarrely. I'm Jamaican (Creole), first and foremost.. Ethnicity-wise, I'm French, Spanish, African, and some other European ethnicities.

Hi, I happen to read a novel about creoles. There were three distinction of creoles. One is the french/Spanish, 2nd African, Spanish/French, 3rd is the Asian, French Creoles. I was surprise about this distinctions that they didn't know about then. This was way back when I was in my 20's and now I am 63. I haven't across anyone else speaking of it.

Understandable, but consider the notion that there are several definitions of the term, "creole/Creole" due to shifts and changes in history. Having said that, Karine's video addresses the "mixed" and multi-racial sense of the word.

If the majority of your DNA is white, then are you passing for white? ...but rather passing for a black person passing for white.
The one drop rule doesn't work for me.
If you look more like American of primarily European descent, rather than of African descent, then you are that. I am puzzled why everyone wants to throw every one into the black ethnicity, since there is only one race - human!
Only with ethnicity are people to go against the majority of your makeup if a small percentage is African. This makes no sense. I wonder why black people want to claim everyone.

    • @preciousaryee2901

@pagemastrogiovanni9195 Please repeat this! I don't get it. It's some sort of psychological disorder. Every person with some African ancestry is not Black. It's not fair to actual phenotypically Black people and the mixed race person who has other ancestry.

thanks for this info on Dorothy. I do a lot of sewing and have some knowledge of vintage fashion. It is actually a piece of cloth draped and sometimes sewn into skirt form (not towelling) 😄

Thank you so much Karine for your in-depth biography of Dorothy Lamour!!❣❣ I have long loved and admired Dorothy Lamour😍🤩🥰 I loved her exotic looks, including the sarong looks. I used to think she was Italian, like me. She might have Irish roots, as I have. I'm a bit surprised of her being critical of herself, yet we all are, so it's not so surprising afterall. What was surprising was those rubber shoes she had made. I don't know if it helped or if it was worth it? It is unfortunate and unfair how powerheads in Hollywood treated women. I'm glad God guided her by the hand, as she stated. I can understand her referring to her dog as her boyfriend. Dogs are the closest thing to God. No man/woman has the same unconditional love as a dog has. There is never any judgments only love for each other.

America is a melting pot! Dark exotic chocolate mixed with luscious vanilla yields irresistible milk chocolate! Let's transcend the racism. America is great because you can marry and love/protect who you want. The freedoms of this country have attracted the citizens of the world and nurtured prosperity. Creativity is tops! And let's not forget that Hollywood was a business. 9 out of 10 movies lose money, so the studios really had to pay attention to their paying customers or close their doors.

@ having a black complexion and being black are not the same. Black is term to describe African American women. This women imo is mixed race. I do not believe she was mulatto maybe creole as someone else said but even then she doesn’t give me creole at all more Spanish

If the majority of your DNA is white, then are you passing for white? ...but rather passing for a black person passing for white.
The one drop rule doesn't work for me.
If you look more like an American of primarily European descent, rather than of African descent, then you are that. I am puzzled why everyone wants to throw every one into the black ethnicity, since there is only one race - human!
Only with ethnicity are people quick to go against the majority of your makeup if a small percentage of it is African. This makes no sense. There are Grand Wizards of the KKK with 12% African ancestry but they are definitely considered white.
I wonder why black people want to claim everyone.
I as an American (black) don’t need everyone to be a part of the same ethnicity to know my worth or my intricate history in America.
My grandfather looked exactly his father, a white doctor, and his mom was a mixed woman. Although he was one of those kind of people like Angela Davis in that he clung to being black, though everyone outside the family seeing him assumed he was white. In my mind he was white in a black family. I believe white people can have black children and black people can have white children. Since we are all children of Adam and Eve, we are all of the same race - human; however, we do come from different tribes, cultures, and phenotypically look different.

Even understand what you’re saying vacuum Dorothy LaMorris day your standards didn’t matter. If you have one drop of black bloods you were black it didn’t matter what you look like and that’s the fact of the matter you can try to change it to green to blue with red and polkadots but it’s not gonna change the way people thought back then.

Not something Black people wanted to claim for everyone this is something that was stamped on Black people when people fell it done them the most good and discredit it black blood the black drop one drop was the road met you were black or you were inferior now people want to change that and make it seem like as if Black people wanna claim everything is black and everyone is black if they have a little African-American or black blood or African blood.
Most people just nowadays go with the narrative that was already said that if you have one drop of black blood, you are black and most people whether KKK at 12% African-American or black blood or not, will not claim that black blood .
So it’s not something again that we are just going around saying and just running towards so excitingly it’s something that was already pinned on us and given it was a narrative already wrote a set already placed upon African-Americans or black. If you wanna call it that and now it’s just been accepted that way.
But now it seems that there are a lot of people that want to get upset at the narrative that’s been created by the narration and narrator now that people is actually going by what they’ve been told to accept and believe.
And you’re right about that because just because someone is 27 or 30% or even 47% white or European doesn’t make them white if they are African-American specially with people like myself when going through 23 and me and finding out different things about my family and my ancestry got a lot of different mix of things in there but I’m still gonna be called black when it’s all said and done😊 African-American or islander, whichever one you wanna call
