- Quick video tutorial showing you how to use just about any Remote control with Amazon Fire Stick. You can use your TVs factory remote, or a universal remote. It doesn't really matter. This will not only work with Firestik, but other CEC enabled type devices.

Not all TVs will have CEC capability even if they're from the same brand. Did you check to see if your has it? And if it does is it enabled?

No usually it's pretty straight forward. Does your remote control the menu arrow directions from the TV properly? The only ones that I haven't gotten to work are the ones that you can't find anything about the CEC in the menu. For example like you said, the SIMPLINK is LGs version of that.

You have to make sure that CEC is turned on in your fire stick first you have to go to settings on your fire stick sound display and make sure that it’s set at on…. If you don’t have your fire stick remote you can use fire stick remote app on your phone but it will not work unless you have CEC activated on your fire stick

Hello, I have a Toshiba Firetv Edition, and bought this Oneforall Universal control. The only thing I can make work is On/Off, and volume keys. Cant seem to be able to navigate (up, down, left, right, and OK button). What is the settings i have to turn on to make this work?
There's a "CEC MODE" you have to activate on the OFA remote. Have you done that?

Yes, I did a video not to long ago about this. If you make sure the TV is able to control HDMI-CEC it should work. THere's usually a setting in the menu for this. You can use the directional keys to the TV and no need to switch modes to control firestick..

I have a Onkyo surround sound. I have my apple tv, xfinity flex box, firestick and tv hooked up. So far i’ve been able to control my tv, aple tv and my receiver with my onkyo remote but is it possible to also hook up the fire stick and xfinity flex to it?
HI! I don't know about the xfinity flex. I am not sure what kind of remote they use (IR OR RF). If they use IR then there's good chance it'll work. As far as the fire stick if your TV has HDMI-CEC capability then yes it should work. There's no code for the fire stick itself. It works through the TVs HDMI port.

You do need a factory fire stick remote to be setup and working I think before it'll allow you to use the other remote. I could be wrong, but I seem to remember having trouble with that...
I'm having trouble. My TV is a Samsung UN65KU6500 and my remote is a GE 41567. Anynet is enabled but I'm not sure which port to use. Can you help a brotha out?
Hello. I don't believe it matters, but I have a Samsung and it's in port 1.
Everything work great. Only the button RETURN doesn't work, do you know what could be. The remote control is a ge and the TV is samsung
I've run into that before. Does the return button work in the TV menu? If there are other codes did you try all of them? If it still doesn't work, you might try an auto code search.. if it still doesn't work, then it's probably not going to..

I have a insignia tv that brought a insignia fire tv remote too. One day the remote just didn’t work anymore. I tried to factory reset the tv since the screen was stuck. My screen is currently on choosing a language. Now my Insignia remote won’t connect with my tv. I have an old universal remote. (That doesn’t have a brand labeled) I am trying to input every code for the Insignia tv. Nothing is working. What do you recommend?
HI, is it possible something happened to the TV? Maybe try that remote on a different TV if you have one and see if it works on that one... If it worked before it should work again unless something happened to either the TV or the remote.
Have I have a hisense tv and I kinda got it to work but not full the settings are bit confusing . I turn on the Cec fun but the only thing the remote lets me do is go back the Amazon tv menu but I can’t switch through the options with the remote I have an rca remote just like the one in your other video .

@@tracyhelmer8756 Is it a Hisense replacement remote? It should definitely work with that (as long as your TV is working). Did you make sure the CEC is turned on in the menu?
I have a Roku TV, I have CEC enabled as my spectrum remote can control the roku, but when I click over to the Amazon stick the spectrum remote wont work. When I go to the CEC devices I see the Amazon Firestick listed, but theres no option to like click it, or anything its just listed... I have a fire stick attached to the hdmi port, and I just click over from the roku remote and watch, and have to use the firestick to navigate the firestick. How do I get my spectrum remote to control the firestick or do I need another universal remote, ideally an IR one? And the remote u linked says doesnt work with firestick or roku.
It probably says it doesn't work with fire stick because through the IR part of the controller it won't work. When using the CEC to control the fire stick you're actually using the TV part of the remote to control the fire stick. I don't understand if you're seeing the fire stick listed in the list of inputs why you can't click on it. But yea, you need to select it as the input or it's not going to work.

I use a mini keyboard with wireless USB hooked to Firestick. It's better to type and navigate through screens

Yes, the remote needs to control your TV normally before the CEC will work.

I have an Emerson tv. When I try this, I get the message "communication error". I even tried unplugging everything and plugging back in. Somehow I watched this entire video of yours and another one trying to use my GE universal remote for the fire stick and didn't see that.
So if you haven't already, you have to enable the HDMI-CEC. I believe on Emerson it's called FUN-LINK. Did you see anything called that in the menu?

I don't have that video.. I'm not sure why it won't work. I use it this way all the time. I've used it on several brands without issue, but never on a Hisense..

How do I navigate once I connected my remote, I turned on youtube and now cant figure out how to get back to the home screen of the firestick to go to a differant app. I can only use volume and the up down left and right a d that's it.

Have a 6 year old plasma Panasonic (does not support downloads), so I ordered a firestick....problem is I use a Harmony 665 to control the amp, fiber cable and speakers as well as turn on the tv. The 665 is not compatible with the Firestick (it is infrarad). Any ideas or suggestions on how to "rig" this all to work together? I would gladly pay someone to come and set this all up so I dont have to go through the pain.
HI, any of the IR remotes will work depending on the TV. Firestick can be controlled through the HDMI port using HDMI-CEC. Have you gone into your TV menu to see if your TV has an option to enable it? (It may not be labeled CEC)

You should be able to google your brand of TV and see what that manufacturer calls it. It might help to find it faster.

I have an Emerson TV and I found the funlink hdmi cec and I enabled it but it’s not working?
Does the remote seem to control the TV ok? Maybe on Emerson the Firestick has to be plugged into a certain HDMI Port? GO to your input menu and see if there's anything there that says firestick? I can't see what you've got there, so I'm just throwing stuff out there.
I have an Emmerson as well. I followed all your steps. The TV says it's in HDMI 2. Where do I go from there?

@@jennifergray6782 I don't have an Emerson to test and go thru the menus. Each manufacturer calls the CEC something different. I think Emerson calls it FUN-LINK... so you would want to look for that in your menu to make sure it's enabled..
I found cec and switched it to on but when I go to devices it's not showing any....any suggestions??

Once you switch to it you should be able to control it. On my Samsung, I have the Firestik connected to HDMI 2 for example, I can either connect to HDMI 2 and it doesn't work, or it gives me the option to connect to Anynet + or something like that... do you see anything like that? Not the Anynet but what ever insignia calls it?

No not that I know of. I don't understand why it would work the TV back buttons, but not the Firestick. It uses the same commands... I'm at a loss on that one..☹️

If you go to another input away from the fire stick, does the back button work in the TV menu? I can't get my home button to work either, but back definitely does. I know some apps will trap you and the only way out is the home button. I have to keep my original Amazon remote nearby for those apps..

Yes if your Comcast remote is controlling your TV as well as the directional arrow keys. Controlling the Firestick doesn't really depend on which remote you use as long as that remote is controlling your TV since it works through the HDMI port the Firestick is plugged in to.

If the Projector has HDMI-Cec available it should still work... The projector should act like a TV.

My guess is it will work with the firestick. I don't have both devices here to test it on. The initial programming of the Fire Stick I'm pretty sure will have to be done with it's original remote.

Sometimes it's not called CEC.. I think Magnavox calls it Fun-Link. You may have to consult your manual to see how to navigate to it. Also not all TVs support this, so keep that in mind.

@@on1yvik I'd have to see it. The TV should know when you're in CEC mode and switch the controlling over to the firestick. What remote are you using?

Interesting,.. it usually will just work. I don't have a vizio here to try it on. Maybe try unplugging the Fire-Stick and plug it back in? Also, maybe your TV will only work via one of the HDMI inputs.. try another input and see if that helps.

Some TVs aren't HDMI-CEC compatible... Did you go through the menu looking for it? I'm not sure what trade name Element TVs would use for CEC.

It should. I don't have one to test, but most manufacturers have the CEC as an option..

As far as I know the Roku devices such as the Roku 3 do not support HDMI-CEC. I don't know about an actual TV model, I've never experimented around with it to see.
