    My buddy and I ran the Sand twice back about 1970 plus or minus. Instead of starting in Sand Lake, we portaged out of Mijnemungshing lake and intermediate lakes to the Sand River. Found some old blazes but they were not much use. Got on the Sand and ran it down to where the portage to Wildcat Lake goes north. Followed a series of lakes and portages to Old Woman Lake and thence to Miromoki Lake and back into Mijnemungshing. One of the portages to the Sand went thorough a grove of old growth yellow birch; it was like a park, big birch and hardly any understory. The second time we came through the loggers had been there and it was a mess. The second time we got on the Sand the same way and took it all the way to Lake Superior. I am late 80s, now. My grandson has my boat and uses it. Sure glad I traveled in the bush when I could.
    Your videos are gorgeous, and I particularly like the shots of water, rocks, fish, cliffs, trees and flowers.

    Just a suggestion; I would love to see an entire video dedicated to Cooper, with all the highlights of your journey together, from the time you found each other and how you bonded through the years you had together. Personally, it would make a great book.

    Great video, Tosh! You'd mentioned those wee moose calves when we saw you - too adorable! We were indeed blessed with some epic weather like you two on our trek. Couldn't believe the sunshine, heat and dry conditions...it made the river surprisingly shallow, so our Royalex boat came in very handy as well :) it was great to run into you guys - your big booming voice at 8am coming through the site was enough to almost give Jay a heart attack lol Thanks for the shout out. See you again soon on the trail!

    Thanks fpr the adventure Tosh, beats a thrill on Bluebeberry Hill. Joe's latest video is about the sad passing of his brother, so it's not clear, what recent trip you were both on together?

      Joe and I went out for an overnighter a couple days after the Sand River trip where we heard about his brother passing away.

    That's a nice trip down this river! Hey Tosh, how's the forest fire situation near your place? Here in Quebec, it's pretty bad, they closed the acces to the forest!

    Great video Tosh! I’ve done that trip about 16 years ago. Did you take the train from SSM or Frater (I think) to sand lake

    • @toshselfpropelled
      @toshselfpropelled  Рік тому +1

      We were able to drive into Sand Lake. Apparently the train no longer carries passengers into the lake.

    So how did you get to Sand Lake? The last time we went was in 2010 and was dropped off by train.

    • @toshselfpropelled
      @toshselfpropelled  3 місяці тому +1

      The rain no longer takes passengers. There’s road access to Sand lake off of hwy 101. The road is pretty rough but it’s passable with 4x4.

    I hope the fish bones went into the fire pit and not fed to Wolfly. I commented 2 times to Joe, how dangerous it is him feeding fish bones to his dog, He still doesn't stop giving fish bones to his dog . Please let him know he will loose another loyal friend, his dog.
    Fish bones are small, brittle, and dangerous. They can lodge themselves in a dog's mouth, throat, stomach, and intestines, sometimes even perforating the organ wall. Not only is this painful, it can also result in an expensive visit to the veterinarian.
