    The 401 is a great bike period. It's also a fantastic value for the price. I had occasional issues with the quick shifter until I learned that you must keep the throttle very steady when shifting and now it works perfect. If that doesn't work have the dealership program the shift shaft sensor, it's listed to be done when serviced.

    I bought a svart 401 because of your old video and have clocked over 3k miles. It has been a great first bike, super easy to handle, and very fun to ride. However you get what you pay for, the premium features aren't just free. It feels cheaply built. Starting with 2020 model year they are produced in India and I think it shows. Aftermarket support is weak, the gas tank is super small and the fuel level gauge is always wrong.
    Overall, still a great beginner bike. I've taken it camping up some forest service roads, but I'm definitely ready for something bigger.

    I've owned a svart 401 for a year as of this month, first bike. It's a great first bike, it really let me get better as a rider and learn what types of riding I like, but at this point, it really shows it's limitations of the smaller engine.
    If you're okay with upgrading after a year or only ride in the city, perfect motorcycle, but I personally wish I tried to start on a 650 class bike.

    • @user-jt6nw6wm5q
      @user-jt6nw6wm5q 2 роки тому +13

      "upgrading after a year" after the first year you still won't be able to take this bike to its limits. the whole idea of having to "move up" is just wrong. and also these 650cc bikes do have more torque but are also much heavier. I ride a Fireblade and trust me, these light less powerful bikes are so much more fun on the street.

    • @YouTenaza
      @YouTenaza 2 роки тому +4

      @@user-jt6nw6wm5q yeah, the grass is always greener in the other side. I started with an sv650, great times, still have it and still love the bike. But i'm sure that if i started with a lighter bike my skills and my confidence riding would have been A LOT easier to obtain.
      The only thing that a bigger displacement bike offers on road really is overtaking power and a bit of highway confort.

    For those of you thinking about selling your Svartpilen, don’t! Selling is one of my biggest regrets in motorcycles. I got one in 2019 before they were cool. They weren’t selling bikes and I got mine in San Diego for $3,300 new, so like $5K out the door. I made the mistake of riding 20 hours in 2 days round trip from Sacramento to oregon. The thumper was so harsh on my throttle hand I seriously could not feel my arm and hand for days it was so painful. I was so upset that I sold the bike, and now regret it! It’s meant for around town, and it was so good and looked so cool, I would get compliments all the time.

Not sure if the 401 is also built in India like the ktm, but the quality was definitely lacking. Even though it never failed, I couldn’t get over the cheap feeling of everything. A year later got a new z900rs cafe. A lot better built than the ktm but again I couldn’t let go of my scoot. Another year passed and I’ve realized that I’ll always be a scooter guy 😂. Okay, I'm writing this prior to watching the Final Thoughts portion of the video.
    You took the 401 offroad and said that it "can do it," but it was "squirrely" and didn't "glide right over" obstacles as well.
    What you did NOT mention is that the 401 comes with knobby tires, which your test model does not have, nor did you attempt to adjust the suspension to determine whether the ride COULD be smoother offroad. Part of why one opts for the 401 is how much stock adjustability is present in the bike to begin with. Not taking advantage of what the bike offers is like running a race while doing high knees: Sure you "can do it," but to what end?
    I'm going to watch the Final Thoughts now, but if neither of these things are addressed, then the comparison was definitely unfair.

    The real question is who is finding the Svart for $5,000? The three quotes I’ve had in the last month from the dealers near me are $6,200 + tax, $6,500 + tax, and $6,659 + tax. If I could find one actually for $5,000 I’d buy one right now. But, when the price starts creeping toward $7k, the value doesn’t seem to be there since you’re now moving into the MT-07 and Trident 660 range.

      Get a quote for an MT-07 and Trident 660. You are looking at $1500 to $2500 on top of MSRP for those too.

    Vit 401 2021 starter bike, I love it for sure, I'm also six foot six and so far not at all uncomfortable to ride for long period of time, got it specifically for the price and for the high seat height. If you're a really tall rider the small 401 is a great height. I'm now hooked into the bikes, now I want a Triumph Street Scramber 1200 XC.

      Hi man, have a question for you. I'm looking to get my first bike and the svartpilen 401 really caught my eye, i'm kinda hesitant because i'm 6'5. Do you think i'll be fine fit wise on the svartpilen? And will the svartpilen be a better fit than the vitpilen because of the riding position?

    I am guilty of also buying a Vitpilen 401 2 weeks ago partly due to your video. It’s my first bike and I’ve only logged 100 miles so far. As a brand new rider I couldn’t be happier with it.
    I’m 5’5” with a 30 inch inseam and was cared of the seat height at first but after the msf course and riding for a bit I have had no issues thus far.

That will hopefully be roadworthy again soon. My current small bike is a CBR 300R, wich is quite rare in Germany.

    I had the chance to rent a Svartpilen 401 a few months ago here in Tokyo (also thanks to "that 650K video") and I can say that I had a blast (even Yammie shared the Instagram story where I mentioned him stating that naked bikes are better lol). The engine has enough power to cruise on highways (specially since in Japan the max speed is 100Kph -62mph- and 120 -74.5- only when overtaking), the breaks and suspensions are top. The only flaws I could find is that the seat is too stiff (which is fixable), since it's a single cyl engine it vibrates quite a lot (duh) and finding neutral was a real pain in the a$$. I had to try easily like an average 5-6 times every red light to find it, so sometimes I just gave in and kept grabbing the clutch lol. Apart of that is an excellent motorcycle. If I didn't buy one it's because here cost like 6400$ MSRP and for the type of ride that I want to do a Ninja 400 fits me better (and I will change it for an MT07 or 09 in a year or so). But living in the US? This is a no-brainer. I'm 5'8" (173cm) tall and I could almost flat foot it. Light as a feather, easy to handle and with a pleasant punch in the lower revs. Simply perfect for commuting and aesthetically stunning. I rode with a friend in a Vitpilen 401 and we catched all the attention from the pedestrians. In fact, in one of the red lights that I couldn't find neutral I went a bit berserker because I almost stalled the bike and rev'd it out and accidentally got out of there in one wheel lol.
    Just get the bike, dudes, it's TONS of fun! xD

    Ok… I’m 54 years old but I identify as a 24 year old. Needless to say I’m a Gen X-er who thinks he’s way more cool that he actually is. I’ve owned, ridden and raced a plethora of dirt bikes, dual sports and road bikes. (Disclaimer: never road raced). I’m no Valentino Rossi but im also not a “beginner.” Would I be happy with the 401 or should I look at the 701? I would be mostly riding back roads some dirt roads and occasional trips to the grocery store. Any input from anyone in a similar situation would be sweet. Thanks!

      Why not step up to the next level CRF…which I think is the CRF450(?). Are the 300 and 450 bikes so different the 450 wouldn’t make a good beginner bike? I’m also concerned, especially for a beginner bike, about the reliability issues with the 401 that seem to be everywhere you look amongst the reviews. For me, poor reliability would be a deal breaker.
