    It's Jim Malcolm singing, and the wisest fool is King James VI of Scotland, who sat on the English throne in 1603, the union of the crowns, Seamus is Gaelic for James, and Alba is Gaelic for Scotland, the song mentions certain events after this, like Killiecrankie in 1689, when the crown was offered to William of Orange, Dundee defeated the Williamites but it wasn't enough to restore the Stuart's, the rightful Kings of Scotland, great song.

    I love to hear Gaelic, a dying spoken language. As a history major i love all history and try to keep my mind open. I love to learn about Scotland one of there famous person, William Wallas. All history is important.

    Let me add a little more to that - the Seamus they're referencing is James I, who in his own right was king of Scotland, and then inherited England's throne after Elizabeth I died without an heir. His reign was at best lackluster.

    I need this version to get put on Spotify, etc - The Gab O Mey is impossible to find. Such a great album though!

    Can someone tell me what this song is truly about? Obviously it's about the royalty of England and Scotland and some conflicts that arose between them.

    @Jamal Without going into major detail as to what exactly went on, the gist of the song is that "the wisest fool" should have stayed put and not tried to reach for more. The monarchs they reference all tried to claim another crown to add to the one they already had, and disaster ensued.

      Thanks for the gist. I couldnot understand the lyrics at all since I didnt read about the background. But the music is great, very healing.

      No, I was searching for it. UA-cam had this music in their library, & I had used it somewhere, because I liked it. But I forgot its name & couldn't find it later. Finally, yesterday I did!

    @garywilesmusic...hahahaha...yeah, I watched it again, too. You're probably right. But still, with the church and graveyard right there it really IS kinda eerie.

    Like the video and love OBD but this does not look like the Fife I know. It started looking like Anstruther but I don't remember any ruins like that, or a kirk so near the sea anywhere between Leven and St Andrews. I may be wrong but where is the video filmed?

  • @imacceptingbut
    @imacceptingbut 13 років тому

    ummm...is it just me or what? Starting at 2:15 but fully evident by 2:18; to the very left of the little boy there appears to be another child (a THIRD child) who could be a girl or boy (boy if based on period clothing styles of Victorian/Edwardian). Between 2:18 and 2:24 this child is clearly visible! The the live little boy moves to his left and actually PASSES THROUGH the sitting child!
    Eerie!!! Haunting...to fit this beautiful song!
