    Lyrics:
the language is Gàidhlig (Scottish Gaelic)
Là dhomh 's mi 'm beinn a' cheathaich
(One day when I was on the misty mountain)
    Sèist: Chorus (after each verse):
Far al a leò ro ho bhi ò
Hoireann is ò ho rò bhi o ho
Hi rì ho ro ho bha ò hug ò ro
    'S ann agam 's a bha 'n sealladh
    (I saw a wonderful sight)
Gun deach bàta Chloinn Nìll seachad
(The Clan MacNeill's ship passed by)
    Mach bho dhùthaich MhicGill-Eathain
    (Away from MacLean country)
    Steach gu Cìosamul an aighir
    (Towards joyful Kisimul)
Far am faight' a' chuirm ri gabhail
    (Where the feasting takes place)
Fìon 'ga òl oidhche gu latha
(Drinking wine from night to day)
    Pìobaireachd nam feadan àrd' laghach
(The piping of the tall, lovely drones)
Clàrsach bhinn ga gleusadh mar ris
(The sweet harp being tuned alongside)
Sìoda donn ga chur air na mnathan
(Russet silk being worn by the ladies)
    Gill'Eòghanain mòr an gaisgeach
    (Gilleonan, the great hero)
    Ruairi òg an t-oighre maiseach
    (Young Rory, the handsome heir)

It amazes me how music transcends language. You don't need to understand the lyrics in a song for it to elicit an emotional response

The refrain is just nonsense words, but the verses are:
Là dhomh 's mi 'm beinn a' cheathaich/'S ann agam 's a bha 'n sealladh/Gun deach bàta Chloinn Nìll seachad/Mach bho dhùthaich MhicGill-Eathain/Steach gu Cìosamul an aighir/Far am faight' a' chuirm ri gabhail/Fìon 'ga òl oidhche gu latha/Pìobaireachd nam feadan àrd' laghach/Clàrsach bhinn ga gleusadh mar ris/Sìoda donn ga chur air na mnathan/Gill'Eòghanain mòr an gaisgeach/Ruairi òg an t-oighre maiseach

The song goes one line of verse, to three lines of refrain, which goes: Far al a leò ro ho bhi ò/Hoireann is ò ho rò bhi o ho/Hi rì ho ro ho bha ò hug ò ro

As a kid my dad would play these songs to me and my little siblings. My name is Rory, so either he or my mom or me would sing it as "Rory-O." (I honestly don't remember who it was.) We always loved listening to our "Irish music" and my Dad was very interested in Gaelic culture. I had forgotten all about Old Blind Dogs and hearing this for the first time in years brought tears to my eyes.

Only about a 500 word difference between Irish and Scottish. Irish, Scottish and Manx are all Gaelic, same base. Someone who speaks Irish can communicate with someone who speaks Scottish.

They both have Celtic origins, at their bases, they have very similar languages. Although, differences being Gaelic (Gah-Leck) is Scottish, while Gaelic (Gay-Leck) is Irish.

It's not called "scottish", it's called Scots Gaelic. And how do you know how different it is from Irish, if you don't even know what it's called?
