The approach was very VFR, very. Eyesight had to be super keen to keep the "decent" in measure. No audible warnings. No "200, 100, 10" being heard. Icing was a challenge. Carburetion, heaters, all that stuff was different and wanted attention. The air crew's of asphalted strips that handle turbo fan types certainly have their hands full however putting the gear onto wet gravel (that flies) is just a little different. Hats off to the DC-4!
That last landing was one of the best 'squeakers' I've heard in a while.
