Carvair N898AT landing and departing the Colorado Creek (KCR) airstrip during the fall of 2004. Capt. Sam Knaub & F/O Matt Johnson at the controls. Video by Sig Strandberg.
I have lots of memories of these beauties from when I was a child, living near Southend in Essex UK. My father was in charge of the porters at Southend airport, in the 60s, when the Carvairs were based mainly there. He managed to get one of the captains to take me on a tour on board one, sadly no flight though. I vividly remember all the smoke from those radials at start up and at night, the violet flames from the exhausts when they flew over my house in the dark. It was a wonderful plane!
Actually, at first I was thinking, what are they up to? Intentionally flying into the mountain? Only then I realized, they were going to land on this narrow strip somewhere in the wilderness. And this ship is not a Fieseler Storch if you please. I take my hat off to this piece of flying!
the aspect ratio is wrong on this video.. it's probably 16x9, looks like it's been squeezed down to 5x4. It would've been cool to get a picture of the storage area :-)

I would love to see this aircraft still flying today
These birds used to transport food in PR Congo. I used to live there and I'll never forget it...
