Thanks! I was originally practicing it with single bass but because of school and work, my chops were coming along pretty slow so I just tried double one day and it worked. In the end I think it helped me out more because I've been working on precision and equality between my feet. Its slow enough to where you can really focus on placing each note. I'm actually in the middle of transcribing Evagria now but I'll definitely add it to my list. I'd never say no to a Coheed cover!
I agree with your philosophy on the double kick part, but doing it with one is very rewarding. I started using doubles and moved to just one. Josh taught me a lot of one foot patterns before I moved to double bass. His idea is more groove, and I can't help but agree. But Matt Halpern is changing things in that department lol
Probably the cleanest cover I have heard from the new albums. Just a terrific job. Also, interesting choice to go with the double on the chorus. You still made it work though. Please tackle Gravity's Union. Nobody has put up a cover of that yet.
I just picked them up at Guitar Center. Control Acoustics. Supposed to be like the Vic Firth ones I guess. Never heard of the brand but mine are still going strong after 2 years so I have no complaints.
my obsession with coheed with as well as this song may be unhealthy. nice cover bro. hopefully i will see then in portland. next month. i saw them ten years ago in a basement when all they had was second stage. it was amazing. And I'm glad josh is back in the band. he's one of my favorite drummers
+Clay DeFoor Thats awesome, dude! I haven't tried any of the new stuff yet. I've been toying with the idea of doing an older song in the next few months though.
Maybe one day I'll be able to cover some VoM. Whenever I try to build my chops to that level something always pulls me away just as I get close. Its a conspiracy!
Learn their song Wounds, It's a little techy but once you get the hang of playing your feet in a separate time signature from your hands you'll be able to play a lot of VoM. Wounds is perfect for practicing that.
No worries, I know what you mean! Not every commenter is a troll (I think. haha) And yes. I should just put together an entire Coheed practice routine. :)
Its a pretty wildly known fact he uses a single pedal. But for most of us, using a double pedal is a lot easier for this song haha. I think for a brief period of time I had the skill to play something this rapid with one pedal but I lost it pretty quickly.
Hey man, good shit. If you wanna check out my page my band lakesmind writes alt of stuff that has similar rythems and shit like coheed I think you might like. Anyway we like, shits tight we like your style

my favorite thing about this song was always the way the drummer played it. you nailed it
Coheed is unparalleled awesome! Every instrument is perfectly remarkable.
Coheed and Cambria, truly, one of a kind.
great performance!!! congrats!

Really good cover man! Keep em coming!
You kick ass. Never stop drumming.
Great energy, great playing!
Great job. That was awesome!
Good job, my friend......

Loving the VoM shirt!

Thanks! I'm doing Fuel for the Feeding End in the next week or so. Favorite Coheed song I've played so far.
Ha! Awesome!
Its always good to do both. I'll probably keep playing this song along with some others to work up single foot skills.
Man, I would love to! The thing is my paycheck needs an upgrade before that could happen. Haha!
Pearl Vision with an Artisan II special whatever finish. haha. It was on clearance at guitar center for around 600. I traded even for it.
This is fucking brilliant!! AWESOME job! You deserve millions of views and shit!
excelente :)
Have you tried playing any of their new music? I've got Island and Atlas down, would love to see a cover though.
+Clay DeFoor Thats awesome, dude! I haven't tried any of the new stuff yet. I've been toying with the idea of doing an older song in the next few months though.
Nice work!!! Hey, what is your main crash? Liking the sound!

Good job, nice setup as well. Did Pearl put a badge on the inside of the shell?
Thanks! And yes, there are badges on the inside and outside.
Bradley Chatman Odd choice but I guess it's a little different from the norm.
Josh taught me a lot, just do a run through of In Keeping Secrets album and your single footwork will improve.
Excellent job on the cover though man not trying to take anything away by saying that.
what drum set is that? im getting a drum set this christmas and it looks good. how much did it cost?
What headphones are you using? I've been looking for a pair to use for drumming.
Believe it or not, Josh actually uses a single kick pedal, even in the chorus. Great job tho!
