      I'm almost 39 and I was lucky enough to delve into them when their very first single came out on the radio around 2003 (Favor House Atlantic). It wasn't really my cup of tea at the time, myself getting into the heavier sub-genres of metal, but something about how the lyrics seem to juxtapose the way he sung about the shit going on (running away from getting assassinated, but he sounded happy about it). So, I delved deeper into their second and first albums (the only ones out at the time), and their previous band Shabutie. Suffice to say, I am so glad I gave them a chance, because they are still my #1 personal favorite band after almost 20 years; they are so out of this world and inspiring, imo.

    A hard rock verse with a metalcorish chorus, Claudio's awesome voice, and a David Gilmour influenced solo. This song has too much cool for everyone.

      Claudio sure does! My favorite album is SSTB, though. "The Color Before The Sun" however I don't think is that great. Sure it has a few catchy songs, but I feel like it was their attempt to go "mainstream" and that's just not who C&C is. As long as he keeps Josh, Travis, and Zach they will always get better with time. They are all such amazing musicians and always put on one hell of a show.

    • @mackfrank840

    Gravitys Union really took off for me once I realized what was going on in the song, story-wise. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the "cage, locked in perpetual motion" stuff is the wreck that Meri will be living through time-and-time again in the keywork, and that due to his deceptive explanation, only Sirus knows about.
    The ending is just wall-of-emotion in-yer-face. Slays me every time.

    • @gabrielstafford5174
      @gabrielstafford5174 4 роки тому +2

      It is about Sirus returning to his planet and having his first public appearance after his experience with the Keywork. The Prise told him not to tell him that the Keywork is an afterlife. Sirus found a way to explain the Keywork without angering the Prise and getting the people to understand it.

    • @zeffmalchazeen3429
      @zeffmalchazeen3429 3 роки тому +1

      this may be late, but the phrase "you let the wrong one in" applies both Meri and Sirius.

  • @Distant.horizons
    @Distant.horizons 4 роки тому +31

    Having finally returned to his home world of Valencine, Sirius has a million things to think about. He’s learned a lot about the Keywork, but he’s conflicted about whether he should share it with the public, and how much he should share.
    Sirius talks it over with his mentor, who says that the discovery of an afterlife where admittance isn’t based on how one acts in life could cause panic and a "fundamental existential crisis". After that, he still feels conflicted about his discoveries.
    Then the Prise, guardians of the Keywork and those entrusted with its protection, show up at Sirius' door. They explain that what Sirius discovered was not meant to be known by man, but by them and "God" alone. They couldn’t do anything about the fact that he knew about their secret, but they said to him that if he disclosed his findings to the public, it would be considered an act of war.
    The day finally came when Sirius was supposed to share his findings with the public. Knowing that the Prise would make good in their threat, he lied to the public and substituted the truth with a very technical explanation of how the Keywork operates. The public is very satisfied with this explanation.

    In the hard cover Claudio explains that its about what Coheed has always been about: making meaningful music. He says "The need for validation from those who don't like us was never a concern because making music for them wasn't the catalyst to do it in the first place. The music we create is simply a result of what we are at any given moment. I'd rather just keep doing what we do and understand that if it continues to resonate within our audience it just means we're doing something right"

    Coheed & Cambria have continued to nurture and grow the elements that set them apart from their contemporaries, namely their eclectic influences. I can't believe how much Coheed evolves from record to record. They are true artists and an inspiration. Love you guys soo much!

    And by that, I meant they also had a hand in the creative process. This song is clearly about the band being true to themselves and not selling out to become popular like most bands strive to achieve. It's about the music, not the fame. And people are forgetting that.

    Yes... yes it is. In the accompanying book (which Claudio wrote himself) It was sparked by an argument he had with his manager, and not wanting to just "write a hit" to appease him. The first thing said about the Hard Sell, and I'm quoting from the book... "The Hard Sell echoes the sentiments of Sentry, in the sense of so many people pulling you in different directions in this industry.

    I have audio--> visual synesthesia, and this video is seriously tripping me out. Like, in a 'I couldn't tell what was going on, completely overwhelmed' way.
    ........totally worth it.
