    Excellent video. I am a VERY strong on 6 out of 8 of the factors. I am OK with change happening to me but don't mind being a change agent. My writing is not bad, but not world class either.
    I had no idea that there was actually a job out there tailor made to my strengths.
    At my previous job, I was a shuttle driver for corporate employees working a split shift. During my mid day break, I would spend time talking to the executive staff, sales, accounting, dispatchers, mechanics, wash crew, etc. and ask them very detailed questions about their jobs and how they fit into the company's mission.
    This was all driven by my natural curiosity. I literally had no agenda. Based upon the information I gathered, I submitted a few reports to the CEO of the company and a few of them were implemented.
    I would also go one step beyond and suggest that you actually be interested in business. Perhaps an individual possesses all of these traits but finds the world of business off putting or boring.

    Great, informative video! Thank you! All of these traits are me--I'm the person who writes Yelp reviews and emails companies to recommend process improvements. I'm also the employee who always suggests how to improve processes--especially ones that touch customers and even ones that aren't in my vertical, haha! I genuinely love solving problems and making things better. I'm a writer and editor by trade (10+ years), am very comfortable speaking to anyone, and I love public speaking.
    I always assumed that management consulting was the only job that tied all of these things together and that as someone who is mid-career I had missed my opportunity. I joke with my husband about finding someone to pay me to make their business better. So excited to learn about business analysis and see that maybe I haven't missed my opportunity for my "dream career" after all. Looking forward to watching more of your content as I figure out how to get started. Thanks again for your channel and for sharing your knowledge and insights!

    Great content! Thanks. I found interesting the ambiguous information part. Sometimes I find myself wanting to know all the steps beforehand. Any advice on how to work on that? 🙏

    • @karaleise
      @karaleise  4 роки тому +4

      Thanks for checking out the video Karina! I did not spend enough time developing the "thrive in ambiguity" concept. It doesn't mean you should be comfortable with ambiguity, it means you will often be thrown in ambiguous and chaotic situations and you will be the agent of change to make it better.
      Wanting to know all the steps is natural and important when you are uncovering the root causes of problems but as you design solutions don't be too paralyzed by the unknown.
      Sometimes you won't know if your solution will work. Sometimes you have to assume a lot of things. In those situations you document your assumptions, you articulate what you don't know, you get buy in to go ahead with your assumptions and you test. You test -> you get feedback -> you refine -> you test again. Hope this helps!

    I cant thank you enough for this wonderful video. I have been studying engineering for two years and have not had the satisfaction in problem solving like I loved so much in this past simply because I was working directly with technology and not with processes. Actively trying to make processes better for both consumer/experiencer and worker is something I've been interested in since I began working 6 years ago. I think this career path may be the right fit for me, now to brush up on my writing skills! Question, you didn't mention any strength in math or data collection, but is this also an important trait for a good business analyst to have?

      Hi Igho, the self assessment guide will be free to download but it's not on the site yet, but... there will be other paid services and materials that will be just as useful, but won't be free. Stay tuned!!!
      The BSA and BA roles are very similar, the BSA tends to be more technical and closer to the IT teams while the BA is more a generalist.

    Maybe it wasn't that great of an example to begin with, but I'm Chinese and I accept change more than my peers. What you brought up was Chinese culture, and it doesn't have to do with being adverse to change. It is about preserving the history of the technique that is rooted in respect and generational heritage. For instance, it is rude to stare directly at someone in the face in some cultures. They're not rejecting change off the bat by not staring a Westerner in the face. No, they have their own culture that needs to be considered. I'm sure you and your family have food from your culture as well that is prepared a certain way. Folding a dumpling wrong in China is the equivalent of ruining a traditional family recipe, and learning how to do it the correct way is respecting someone's culture while also gaining a new skill which references back to you saying you enjoy learning about new things.

    Hi Sara, I know you say that you must have a degree to be a business analyst, but what if I have a similar job & I'm transitioning over to the business analyst career, could I get a jr business analyst job, as I complete my degree? Thanks

    • @karaleise
      @karaleise  4 роки тому

      Hi, thanks for checking out the video!
      Yes you can try to get a Jr. BA job based on your similar experience but I have to warn you that it can be a little more challenging because you don't yet meet the education requirement. If you are transitioning within your existing company then your chances are better. If you are applying to a different company, then you will have to make sure you really tweak your resume and also list your pending degree. If you are closer to completing your studies then your chances go up as well!
      In the mean time try to get into some BA activities, volunteer at the IIBA and attend chapter meetings to get more exposure.Thanks again, hope this helps! Good luck!
