    IN THIS VIDEO
    I don't suggest you inhale water towards the back end of running a half marathon.
    It nearly brought me undone, but it is something I don't want to experience again.
    This is my recap from the half marathon at the Gold Coast Running Festival.
    It didn't all go to plan, but it was still a great morning.

    Great video Woody! Pleased to meet you in person at the end (Dave, runner 2164)
    It was my first ever Half M, and only my second ever race after Bridge2B last year. As you say, well organized, great volunteers, inspiring finish into the stadium. PB for me (first HM! 🙂), so super happy about that.
    Big call out to Neill S (maybe from Norths RC) who did the 3/4. We fell in together around 7K and he got me through mentally around 16-19k. Support like that in running community is awesome. If anyone knows him - pass on my thanks!

      Thanks Dave, and good to meet you too. Congrats on the first HM and so good you had someone there to get you through the tough patches. Good luck with future HMs, and catch you at the next event.

    Congrats on the run. I was the guy from the Endo-End Fun Run you spoke to after you finished. I ran the 3/4 marathon. I had a stitch on the 3rd lap. I had to take deep breaths and walk it off. My time was 3:23:39. I still thought it was a good race. I did it last year and enjoyed it. Congrats again on the half marathon.

    Great one Neil, I'm running the 7.5 k at the GC30 First race since GC full marathon in 2004. At almost 63 you got me back to running. Only been back at it since January 2024. Thank mate for you videos and you inspiration. Really appreciate it

    Missed you at this one. I was near the back. And the distance was 20.90km on all my teams' Strava's so I had to go an extra 200m to "finish" my first half-marathon.
    Will cheer you on when you pass me at the GC30. I'm doing the 30km but very, very slowly.
    Well done on the run. Saw a lot of my teammates in your video so thank you.

      Good on you for doing the extra at the Gold Coast. Everyone I have spoken to has come up with the same measurement around that 20.90. Looking forward to this weekend. Fingers crossed the weather stays kind. Have a good run, and make sure you shout out. Good luck with the 30k.

    Well done on the run! Just to mention people always say the course was short or long, it isn’t, it’s due to watch GPS not being 100% accurate. Official races are accurately measured to a level far more valid than a GPS watch can achieve

    • @runwithwoody
      @runwithwoody  4 місяці тому

      Hey mate, don't doubt that at all. It was just everyone I spoke to came up short on the day. I normally measure long in events because I am never following the shortest way home. I wasn't concerned by it, just mentioned it in the video. I've been running long enough to not trust the Garmin when it comes to races - it's close, but always out compared to the on-course markers.

    Hola from Mexico mate, Great run, and good memories for me. I spent a few years training along that Robina Parkway and doing that little step incline on the way past Robina Town Centre.......great stuff. Keep fit and healthy mate.

      @runwithwoody  4 місяці тому

      Hi Mark, thanks for watching. Yeah, that little incline doesn't look that bad until you have to do it a couple of times🤣

    Nice job Woody, saw you out there! Interesting comment on the course running short - I measured a similar distance but surely they wouldn't have measured it over 100m short?? I always find the Garmin doesn't get the distance right, in both directions. Last year's GCM for example measured over 350m long!

    • @runwithwoody
      @runwithwoody  4 місяці тому

      Cheers mate. Yeah, I normally measure long in races. It was just surprising that so many others came up short. No biggy, just interesting.

    20.97K by me, reckon the difference is the other times I've done this race we've started on the road not the footpath. All along my goal was Sub 2 and nothing else, and got that right in the end, I definitely knew my limits for that day and really didn't need a watch. And yes that Cheltenham Road hill isn't fun (up or down)

    • @runwithwoody
      @runwithwoody  4 місяці тому

      It was great to see you there, mate. Seems a lot of us measured short. Well done slipping under the sub-2, and I think I'll give the Cheltenham Rd hill a miss next year.

    Good video Neil. Bit of a shame about the inaccurate distance. I sometimes wish pacer groups weren't a thing, especially when they go too fast at the start.

    • @runwithwoody
      @runwithwoody  3 місяці тому +1

      I initially thought it was just my Garmin as it's always about in in races, although usually longer. But everyone I have spoken to came up short. No biggy to me, but I know some who ran some extra distance to complete 21.1 because it was there first half. It's not hard to get pacing right really, and I get that they are valuable for new runners in a race for the first time or someone chasing a PB, but when you go out 20-30secs faster in the first KM then you are setting some people up for failure.

    Hi Woody. Love the vids. Doing the 30km at the GC30. Hope to see you around.
    Are you running or supporting the Sydney Marathon this year? It just sold out with 24k runners.

    • @runwithwoody
      @runwithwoody  4 місяці тому

      Cheers mate. Good luck with that 30k. No Sydney this year, but great effort to sell out with 24k runners.

    I was in that race too!! How did you find the camber in the road? My left hip/tfl was feeling a bit sore the next few days lol. I was happy to do a 1.22 on the day. Next up is Noosa 10k for me 😊

    • @runwithwoody
      @runwithwoody  4 місяці тому

      To be honest, I didn't really notice the camber, but that steep hill knocked my knees around. You will appreciate the Noosa course being flat after doing that one.

    • @MR-wh5wp
      @MR-wh5wp 3 місяці тому

      @runwithwoody it's funny how some people dont notice the camber, but I'm so sensitive to it. I activity found the hills fine haha. But iv done the Sydney course and that's hills the whole way.
