Played a nasty combo a few weeks back. Halford, Black, and Johnston. We had permanent smoke, radar, 5x5 torps, spotter airplanes, and fantastic DPM. We kept the enemy permanently on fire.
You don’t want to use them on cooldown. You use them during periods of downtime when you don’t need to pay attention. That’s why I don’t spec into them, they’re more for utility than anything.
Without divmates they almost never make their worth. They don't do damage to DDs, only spotting. Their damage to larger vessels still don't compensate for the DPM you lose out compared to ships like kitakaze.
Halford lover here; play her as support. In my opinion, Halford has never been supposed to be a damage dealer with her kit being like this. However, she is a VERY excellent spotter. Build her with SI, RPF (this is a MUST). You get 4 Smoke Charges, 4 Engine boosts to smoke up allied ships while your ship roams alongside with the aircraft. RPF enables you to soft maphack nearby ships, enabling you to spot them with your aircraft and providing intel for smoked ships. The benefit for her 2 squadron slots is that whenever you scout for a long time (in which you mostly will), and lets say for whatever reason you lost your aircraft or decided to attack BBs and hope for that DoT fire, the other one is ready to launch and the next are being prepped straight away, making her a VERY VERY strong scouting ship with her quick plane rotation. Her guns however are mid at best, use it if you have to kill a low DD, never take it to contest a gunboat DD because you're not it bro, trust me. Torps on the other side however are a little bit better. 1 set that travels 13.5 km, a little bit slower than usual torps of her class. Use it when you can but do not focus on that, that thing reloads in like 3 business days. Easy objectives to play as a Halford: - Play close with your DPM cruisers that has reasonable smoke penalties (notably Austins, Des Moines, Worcester, etc) - Smoke allied ships whenever they are spotted while they are in the open waters, providing cover from enemy detection - Smoke allied cruisers WITHIN their comfortable firing range, OUTSIDE enemy radar, AND OUTSIDE their smoke penalty range. I need to stress this hard enough otherwise you're just wasting your smoke - Use your planes to spot ships near you around 5.4 kms (lowest detection possible for surface ships) - 10 kms (ships beyond this point are mostly detected by your own ship, so put your planes spotting elsewhere or commit arson to enemy ships) - Use torps whenever you have them to make floodings or just scare off ships. They aren't your main focus, but just use them whenever they are up for additional damage. - Spot low conceal torp DDs like Jager, Shimakaze, etc with your aircraft - And lastly, once you deployed your smoke, autopilot your ship outside of your smoke while using your aircraft to detect ships in front of you and nearby yourself. Let your own ship self spot the BBs and Cruises for your allied ships to shoot in the comfort of your smoke. Your aircrafts job is to find ships that can spot you (ship with less than 6.1 km conceal). Sincerely, 70% WR Halford Asia Player
@@deadhorse1 eh I'm not that popular so I guess I'll pass on making videos for now. I'm just giving out advice for those interested in buying Halford (honestly, there are better ships if u want)
Just the way of having 4 Bearcats simultaneously laughing from the 'tiny' hull of a Fletcher class DD is truly something special😂... Dunno what's more ridiculous, this or Hildebrand...
In the devblog for Halford WG said that the ship itself launches only 1 plane "which will be joined by the rest of the squadron, which is already in the air" which is even more ridiculous
I wouldn't recommend anyone pick up Halford until we see how the CV changes effect hybrids. As for Halford, she is the ultimate spotting DD. Just forget about doing damage and focus on keeping the enemy team spotted the entire match with your planes and hull. Since you get two flights, you can keep planes in the air and spotting the enemy team almost permanently. When one squad gets damaged or you want to spot a different section of the map, use the squad to attack a BB, fire your torps, and launch the next squad. If you can keep the enemy team lit without losing your planes, you will rack up 100k+ spotting in nearly every match which is HUGE. If you play in a div with something like a Musashi or Azuma it is even more disgusting. The guns and smoke are almost exclusively for self defense or for finishing off low HP targets. You can use your smoke for your team.
I was very surprised this ship got added into Azur Lane as part of PR7, because she was a real ship. But because she's in WoWs with the scout plane replace with a modified F8F Bearcat carrying Tiny Tim missiles, she got in. Now just imagine if AL ever adds the other two Fletcher class that had this aircraft catapult modification (Pringle & Stevens) into the game through the Gacha pool in a standard event.
@@balverine07 I'm seriously hopeful for either Hildebrand because she'd be such a fun goth big sister or mother character, or Vermont for that thiccness she'd have.
I was the Yugumo! I didn't realize it was you until I saw you pop out of the smoke! lol I figured it was best to go down fighting! I have since changed back to smokes instead of torp reload.
Normal spotting for BBs but reducing the detection range by air for them seems okay, I think Live minimap spotting for cruisers One location update on minimap for DDs (like the submarine consumable that gives a single location update) or nothing at all The other big issue is lack of counterplay - defensive AA use and priority sector use should mean more. Right now you can do everything right against aircraft and still get hit hard, and that's stupid AA not being destroyed by HE spam would probably be a positive too - especially with how much HE spam is in the game these days
11:47 I moments like this are why I use AR and Fearless Brawler. I found it better to go all in on torp reload and speed but use a FB to better assist in open gunfights with enemy DDs. I feel like by doing so you really aren't missing out by not taking the other tier 4 skills as well.
I haven't played WoWs in almost a year? But the Halford was one of the last boats I picked up and honestly, I really kinda like it if for its versatility. Set smoke, launch planes, fire torps, rinse repeat.
I'm findiny myself now that the Halford is actually quite slept on. Its not amazzing at one particular thing but it can really make a flank miserable for the enemy provided your team doesnt instantky cave.
Man i love your videos , im playing a lot of german cruisers and german and Japanese bbs , what coal ship should i buy ? What do you recommend? Thanks , stay cool ❤
I have the most success using the planes late game and to spot ships leaving smoke. Not great firepower but good Intel once the game starts to thin out. I've had some insane spotting damage games.
You have to remember, it's a double-edged sword. You can spot other DDs, but when you launch planes that have a detection of 10km (4 km greater than the ship). Everyone knows where you are! Good players will punish you for the slightest misplacement. Fast gunboat DDs will rush you, and CVs and Hybrids will seek you out.
Yugumo has slightly more dpm and flatter ballistics than Halford, ideally you don't take that fight. Granted that Yugumo wasn't running SE for some reason.
PQ, with Halford you have to use rpf on the commander. Plus use the mod for rpf on minimap. So you can very efficiently hunt DDs when you’re flying the planes, looking for rpf on minimap. Same thing I use on Chikuma 2, Komissar and Hildebrand.
As the years roll on, I realize now more clearly, wargaming does a very poor job responding to player feedback. Most of the playerbase hates subs and cvs. But they added them to the game anyways, and continued investing in them, nerfing our AA against them, and yet there are still aiming bugs in the game, and issues with premature grounding near islands and getting perma stuck. They don't care about our experience. It's clear as day to me they are out of touch as a gaming company. And I forgot to mention, there's basically no PvE. Operations in my opinion are some of the lamest PvE I've seen implemented in any game. Repetitive and forgettable.

4:37 funny thing here is that Halford IRL was meant to be a fleet scout. So (kinda not rly) historical game play!
Just give everyone stronger aa and allow planes to die when on final strike. This will limit there damage and reduce spotting and increase skill.

I often get 150k+ spotting damage in my Fletcher. Would the Halford be an improvement here?
