Jonathan, thank you for the tip with a great example of it in use. I’m 4 years into the cello(my 5th instrument) teaching myself, and I plan to conquer this instrument in record time(plan to..). So many videos cover the same little things but I appreciate the insight from someone that it is currently in a great orchestra! Keep posting, thanks!
Incredible. I'm in my mid 40's and have only been playing for 4 years but I've gotten through Suzuki book 4 and I'm still really struggling to capture the beauty of the cello as an instrument; that being the seamlessness between notes. I'm going to try this out. Please make more videos!
Thank you Jonathan. This is where I need the most help. To relax my hand like a jelly fish and trying different fingers and smooth bow changes. I tend to stop/start instead of seamless! So helpful!
Great tips ! I previously played the violin (not great - intermediate level violin) and have been gifted a cello. My biggest obstacles to learning cello are tuning my cello (huge - it feels like tuning giant violin) and bowing. I have finally started to play - play along Suzuki cello it seemed like forever(I am teaching myself) after 2 months which includes a Cello check up and new strings (cello in the shop) adjustment, re-insertion of sound post, adjustment to bridge (I had originally inserted the bridge as it was down). Now that I have learned to tune it I can hear the beautiful ring it has. Bowing the cello is a learning experience. It is a lovely old cello and at last I am slowly learning to play. Very frustrating as I wanted to immediately pick it up and play it.
Your sound is gorgeous! Thanks for the lesson.

Try learning some thing by ear , like some of the Beatles songs like Eleanor Rigby ( or other music ) music is not always from a sheet ( try both).
