This has GOT to be possibly the finest rendition of a well-known 'hymn' I've listened to in a long while.Such clarity & ennunciation.When she performed it at the London 2012 Opening Ceremony her voice sent shivers down my spine & it certainly was a fitting tribute to the victims of 07-07-2005.But the fact that NBC edited/cut out parts of the event shouldn't be allowed to overshadow what the rest of us got to witness,which was a truly beautiful performance.
Played this song for my father before he died of cancer. I believe he was singing along even though he couldn't speak towards the end. I'd like to believe he made his peace with God. I still tear up everytime I hear this song.

I was backstage waiting to come out and perform my dance and marshalling for the parade of athletes. This song soothed us all. Weakened all of our fears and gave us so much more passion and motivation then what we already had to go out and do what we needed to do. I've never listened to Emeli before but her rendition was absolutely beautiful. Wish I could re-live that moment on the night everynight.

Emeli does a wonderful job with the song. I like how she takes her time between the microphone and also how she repeats the line: 'In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me'.
It stands out and makes it unique to her style.

Emeli Sandé did a good job in the way she sings this song. You really can feel the soul in it! A real life hymn sung with grace, delicacy and reverence. Hope that I may welcome one day a version like this with more verses of this beautiful hymn.

Wow. I have never taken too much notice when it is sung at the FA Cup Final, and yet at the Olympic Opening Ceremony this took my breath away and captivated me throughout.
We Canadians did have this part included on our CTV channel. It was lovely as Emeli is a great singer. When will America begin looking outward and lose some of its insularity? We are all part of an ever shrinking world. The Olympics are the time to show our brotherhood.

Today my father (my best friend) chose his burial grounds. This is the song that he chose for his funeral and I have been listening to it for months to prepare for the day we sadly have to say goodbye to him as I will be singing it. It's such a beautiful song and I cry every time I listen to it, I hope that he will give me the strength to complete the song. It's very hard to have to prepare to lose your father, and I have no idea what the aftermath of the loss will be. But no matter what I will always think of him when I hear this song. Thank you for this.

Emeli Sandé is an up-and-coming British artist and is perfect to be singing this song for the Olympics. The NBC shouldn't have cut this section out, but know you can see it from the BBC iPlayer.
Don't insult anyone for not including it in their broadcast, but thank the London Organising Committee for including her in the performance at all.

It was one of the most moving performances I've ever seen, brilliant acting by the man and the young boy, I am almost moved to tears just thinking about it. It was truly cinematic and beautiful. Danny Boyle and Emili Sandé, if not before, are now definitely National treasures.

I'm in Australia, and watched the opening ceremony at 3.30am. It was spectacular. I was not familiar with this hymn, but so glad I know it now. I cannot imagine a finer realisation of the English language. Congratulations to Danny Boyle. It was better than Sydney. Go London!
