Theres something very satisfying about working on your own car and trying to keep it on the road for as long as possible
Yes. Until you give it to your sister who destroys the engine when she starts it in -32C after sitting for a week without preheating and all the oil blows out of the engine. Then you think of all the work you put in it over the years and say. "No more" :)
@@Juntasification The mistake you did was doing all that hard work fixing the car and then giving it to somebody else, even family sometimes, nobody really appreciates the hard work put into the car other than you.
Also I've started my car in very cold temperatures without preheating and no problems, what do you mean by oil blows out of the engine?
@@aden3113Yes, you are right about that. Dont know were you live, but -30C is piss freezing temperatures. Crankcase ventilation must have been frozen. Blew all the oil out of the oil filterhousing and the engine seized. Still have the car. Just wondering if I should fixit or scrap with so many other projects going on.
Do this complete overhaul, plus an engine rebuild, drive your car for half million kilometers, and THAT'S the way for being environmentally responsible, not being FORCED to dump your car after few years, to buy some new electric scam!
Outstanding work. Also want to say thank you for such a clear and easy to watch video. No annoying jump cuts, no thumping music where it's not needed, clear and straight to the point. This is going to be a huge help for when I have to do the same for my Dads Octavia as it's rear sub frame is just rusting out.
Thank you, I’m glad that you like it
I like your video because the camera is static, similar to m539 restoration. No annoying music and pure enjoyment. Keep it up!
You did an amazing job. That car will last forever now.
Great stuff. I bought a 2001 Passat TDi 130 about 8 years ago for £160. Fitted a cheap but branded control arm kit, a head gasket, tidied up the subframe and axle and it's just passed 500k miles last year.
The found a black 2005 Passat TDi 130 Highline for £250. Had only 130k miles but was very tatty but thankfully no dents. New set of brake calipers, discs and pads, engine mounts, 2 new wings and a few other minor jobs. Total cost £650 including purchase price. Spent a week detailing it and it's an extremely nice car now.
There are some bargains to be had out there if you can do your own work
Enjoyed watching this. Just the right amount of normal and sped up footage. Very satisfying.
Thank you
I agree, perfect editing
@@martinandmechanic Yo this clip do not do justice for your man / hour work.. I'm still not sure how long such preventive servicing would cost overall or how long my nearby shop would keep the car to do something like this (at least few days if not a full week, perhaps a month).. but since you did it nicely for yourself not just saving yourself a lot of money escaping just with the alignment also looking super great that car will have at least 10 years ahead.. great job man !
my guy takes better care of this car than most with their project/showcar xD great job!!
That's a tremendous amount of excellent work and it's very satisfying to watch.
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it
Watched from start to end. This is a good repair manual for any VAG car based at PQ platform! Much appreciated for it! My Golf 5 is waiting for similar work.
Thank you
Hey! Nice video really. Just a small advice. Never put any grease on ATE dry guide pins. They are meant to be dry. The force of rubber actually pulls brake pads sligtly from calliper when the brake is not used. With the grease on the guide pin this doesn't work and brake pads will always touch brake rotor which eventually results in overheating of rotors and vibrations during braking. 90% of mechanics make this mistake. Also use only genuine ATE rubber part of guide pins. The correct compound of rubber and grooves inside are essential to proper function.
Fantastic video, thank you for sharing. With the deluge of videos on youtube just buying and flipping for as little money (and care) as possible it is so refreshing to see someone take so much time and care properly refurbishing and maintaining their car. I'm guessing you work in the trade given how much skill you obviously have? A delight to watch, thanks!
Madness.. but RESPECT 100% I have Mazda 626 SS (1990) waiting the restoration...
Glad to have you on our islands! Handy man to have about the place! Made that look effortless
Immediately when I started looking at the video i wanted to check how many subs you had, was super impressed to see that you just started. The quality of the video and speech is astounding, keep up the good work.
Thank you, I’m always glad to read comments like that
Thank you for all your time/effort. I bet the first drive was amazing with noticeable improvements. Great skillmanship.
Fantastic job you have done Martin well done
I got a 2016 Skoda Octavia Scout with 190.000km/118.000miles on the clocks. My plan is to own it as long as possible(especially because there's no loan on it), and thankfully I live in an area where they do not salt the roads which is a big relief for me personally because I hate rust lol. Lots of snow, but no salt.
Just had it in for an MOT and it cleared with no remarks, and just had regular service so all is well. The only thing I'd like to do is change all door/window seals because they squeak so much, especially during winter. Also the interior is making too much noise almost like someone placed styrofoam in between the dash just to be an utter devil 😏
Then you got things like moisture entering the rear view camera, blinkers in the mirrors as well as headlights.
Still a good car, but nothing lasts forever so just got to try to stay on top of things.
Those must be the most agreeable wheel hubs I've ever seen. Good work!
Enjoyed each minute of the whole film
I could watch these kind of videos all day, cracking work mate. Can't believe how clean it was underneath to begin with after so many miles.
Thank you, I’m glad that you enjoyed it
a new car for sure. great work!
FINALLY!you re back
Lots of work but the satisfying feeling of knowing it's done cannot be beaten.
I just found channel by chance. What an amazing job you have done the presentation was amazing.
Thanks and welcome
Satisfying process, but painful to watch everything being assembled without a gram of grease or anti-seize, the next mechanic to work on this car will be swearing in Polish a lot....
Amazing job. And best quality parts! Nice!
Excellent video and attention to details. Car is now like new.
Glad you like it
An impressive job. Congratulations!
You have a lot of knowledge to be able to do all of that work by yourself. Impressive
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this video. Amazing work and skill. Inspirational and informative!
Glad it was helpful
Thank you so much for this fascinating content. Yes, it is so gratifying to work on your car with all the power to install good quality parts and the skill..
Really satisfying to watch.
Very nice video, Martin ! Also the calm tone of voice is cool. New sub here :D
I love this video, amazing effort Martin! I wish I had a place to wrench myself. Maybe one day.
By the way, I have one tip. At 25:05, you can spray linseed oil inside all of the holes. The oil will stay stick to the inside for a long time and prevent from eventual rust forming.
Fire content as always 🔥 Keep it up brother 👍
I didnt know 240K miles is considered high mileage for cars. My car is at 300k and not missing a beat right now, and its a smaller older Skoda. That being said good on you for keeping this car going!
My 2001 E39 530i is at 635 000 km and it drives and looks brand new. 240k miles are truly rookie numbers 😂
Holy shit, what an amazing job you’ve done. Superb!
Awesome! I plan to do something similar with my Mazda, but just replacing all the arms and bushings
Great video, really nice relaxing watch
Hats off mate! Great job.
Thanks a lot
I own the same car and have also done some of that work. Here in Portugal we don't have the rust problem, mine's body it's 100% new.
Mine it's a silver gray 2010, Skoda Superb Elegance Estate with the 6 speed manual transmission and the CBBB engine (2.0TDI - 125Kw) and 270.000Kms on the clock
You are as young as me and smart. May you be successful as always. :)
Compliments on a job well done.
great work ! just a new car !
Did the same thing to my Pontiac G6, replaced almost everything for the sake of keeping it on the road. I didn’t go as far as you did with wheel bearings, and every bushing, I didn’t get to the front subframe bushings (rear subframe didn’t have bushings). I did it by hand though, I don’t have any air tools
Superbs are just superb cars. Whether or not it did need all that work done to it or not, it's a good investment to a car that is reliable.
New sub love the content ❤
This Superb is an amazing car. Let it live long :)
Very nice job. I dont know about the rust prevention, but mechanically this should be a very comfortable ride for sure :) Im surprised how easy it was to take out engine mount :)
Pour votre sécurité, il était judicieux de placer les roues au-dessous de la voiture.
Very Good Job
Professional job, nicely done. You don’t fix a car up like this to sell, but to drive. 😉
Хорошая работа! Удовольстие смотреть и учиться правильно обслуживать свой автомобиль!
Мне бы такого соседа как ты 😅
Thank you ☺️
great video, the only thing you can add are the torque specs for different types of bolts. keep up the good content!
Great job sir 👏
You just won a new subscriber
Отличная работа сэр 👍
Good work 👍
Great job mate, I have to do the same on my wife Octavia 2006, its 100 times more rusty then yours!
Thank you, I wish you luck
Wow😮 very good and profesional work. I'm impressed,Greetings from Poland 😊
Thank you so much
good job!!
Нравится, приеду с работы и буду досматривать.
Great job 👏 well done, you 👏
Put the jack stands on pieces of plywood 20mm or thicker to aid stability! Especially on pebbles as to not sink down or become unstable.
Great work, let down by reusing stretch bolts
Good job👍
Like 👍 from superb club Russia, good job
Thank you 👍
Ух, мечта перфекциониста.
Really cool video! I have and old a6 c5 and I dream about whole suspension rebuild to get my audi new life.
Inspiring video, would have been great if you included the total spend and how long it took to complete.
Thank you, the total spent of the new parts that are in the video is around £1600 and to the second part of your question, the whole job was done almost two years ago 😅, just the video editing was done recently. Don’t remember exactly, maybe two days to strip everything, few days underbody paintwork, another few days till everything dried up and another few days to put it back together. I was working on it in my free time after work, so it could be done much faster. Finally video editing maybe 15 hours of work 😮💨
Very good job! Did you also flush new brake fluid through the clutch?
The only thing not changed was the pads and discs lol but they looked fairly new and driveshafts
I can say that Hammerite Kurust also works against the rust, just remove any rust flakes, brush Kurust on it and put coat of paint on surface
I still have older simpler cars with less electronics. I routinely fix them and keep them on the road. I’m not paying a mechanic to rip me off.
Nice work!
With a little grease on the bolts you can skip the angle grinder the next time…
Really nice job. However, I would advise you to get a few pieces of plywood and place them under your floor jacks when using them in gravel. That really looks dangerous.
Also you might consider applying a product like Fluid Film to the under body to prevent future rust.
Good job. But safety first 😊
I repaired my Skoda with the same color until the prices for parts became too high.
Probably very basic but good tip with refitting the bolts...... I end up with a big pot of them and no idea!!
Really enjoyed this. I know what it feels like to have an old car with squeaks, clonks and rattles, so, this was satisfying to watch. Hope the car is still running fine for you.. By the way, how many miles are on the car?
Thank you, I’m glad that you enjoyed it. I don’t how many miles it’s got now, since I sold the car a while ago
Loved the video ! Could you tell what brand and model is the bushing tool ? Really sweet set.
Thank you. I ordered that bushing tool from Amazon few years ago, It doesn’t have any branding. I think it’s made in China, but it still serves me well.
Amazing video. Shame I hate Škodas so much.
Good and perfect pro job am wondering how much cost you ?
wow, how many hours it took? How do you like parkside tools?
As a treat you could have installed a pdc system in the back since everything was taken off already...
This Superb has already the PDC installed
Nice work😊 where is this car located ? I live in sweden and here they use road salt in the winter. So the car rost wery fast. But this car still looks new underneath😊
United Kingdom, similar here, when it’s outside temperature under 5°C they’re gritting the salt on the road as well. At least in Midlands
Great work Martin. Just one question. Why do you tighten the bolts upto the correct torque , then tighten up further . Always taught your just dragging metal.
Thank you. That’s torque and angle tightening
Very entertaining. What was the timescale from start to finish ?
Thank you, the whole job was done almost two years ago 😅, just the video editing was done recently. Don’t remember exactly, maybe two days to strip everything, few days underbody paintwork, another few days till everything dried up and another few days to put it back together. I was working on it in my free time after work, so it could be done much faster. Finally video editing maybe 15 hours of work 😮💨
Are u from germany or somewhere near there i know
the car does have uk plates however the parts logos made me think u are if so
what are prices or engine oils and filters from there compared to uk
СУПЕР!!!!!!!МОЛОДЕЦ!!
Great work!! May I ask, how much you did spend on parts?
Thank you, I spent around £1600 for the parts that were changed in this video
Love from Pakistan
I'll buy it...! :)
Already sold 😢
Great job. Engine still good ?
Yes, absolutely
Great job Pjotr👍🏻 is this you’re car when go to Poland visit family?
Thank you, but I don’t have family in Poland 😂 and the car is already sold
Это жутко залипательно. Автор красавчик!
Большая работа. Интересно сколько дней ушло
I need to do much of this work on my 2005 XC70.
What are your and anyone else's thoughts on modern Lemforder?
I think it’s still best on the market
Great video, 2 questions though, how much in total did the parts cost you, and have you still got the parts you took off the car as I'd be interested in BUYING them. Thanks
Thank you, the total spent of the new parts that are in the video is around £1600 and old parts have been already scrapped
@@martinandmechanic that's a shame Martin, most of the parts you removed looked to be in good condition, better than some of mine on my car, I'd have paid £100 for those parts , but if they're scrapped, they're scrapped, what's your next video going to be on...🤔
what kind of impact gun is the electric one?
