@CLANG CLANG CLANG CLANG I don't really wanna watch through every Did You Know Gaming about Pokemon just to see which one talks about this, but this didyouknowgaming.com/post/51421596683/pokemon-gold-silver piece of trivia on their website suggests that including Kanto was at least on the developer's minds. I also googled the source they gave, and an article from 2010 showed up that included it: www.thetanooki.com/2010/03/12/gold-and-silver-were-supposed-to-be-the-last-pokemon-titles/ I can see your point about such a piece of trivia being implausible, though--I mean, the game is so heavily designed around Kanto being part of the postgame it seems unlikely that they were hinging such a large portion of the game on a single person's ability to make a new compression algorithm. Then again again, GameFreak is known for being pretty balls-to-the-wall as a company, especially back in those days. This video talks about it, too: ua-cam.com/video/tZsErx705fM/v-deo.html&feature=share Honestly, any interviews given by the developers on this are probably in Japanese. I mean, it's not uncommon for people's facts about Pokemon to be demonstrably false (like the idea that Farfetch'd is based on a myth or something bulbanews.bulbagarden.net/wiki/On_the_Origin_of_Species:_Farfetch%27d ), but if you really wanna go around trying to take the wind out of people's sails, you should probably back your claims up with your own research
@Yu How are you supposed to source that someone DIDN'T say something? If they actually didn't say it then how could there BE a source? Unless, maybe, they made a public statement to debunk a rumor they said it. I don't agree with hit attitude about it, but it seems like it's the OP that should have to back things up rather than them, since they made the initial statement.
The mysterious cave or houses are suppose to be the ruins of alph. I think it serves as a concept of the relativity of between locations with the game map.
Its still amazing how they were able to cram the entire Kanto region into the Gold and Silver games. We have Satoru Iwata to thank for that. The man was a coding wizard
I like to think they blew up/buried Cinnabar in order to get rid of MissingNo. Probably not, but the idea amuses me. "OH GOD IT'S BACK" "I THOUGHT WE KILLED IT IN YELLOW" "QUICK, HIT THE EMERGENCY SELF-DESTRUCT SWITCH"
That is Red's house. The cave is how he gets to the top of mt. Silver. He sees u from the time you are exploring the ruins of alph, watching, waiting...
but its true, on no map of cinnabar island there is a volcano except in gen 2 and the gen 2 remakes, where there IS a volcano that blew up everything except the pokemon center suspicious...
The unused house and cave at 1:40 ish looks a lot like the Ruins of Alph. Probably where they were originally going to put it but then decided to move it elsewhere.
This is what it is, the cave is the first puzzle. Its there in the corner because in a REAL layout it would be there and the sprites of the world are laid out in a specific number of tiles. It doesn't matter if the player can't see it, its entirely for the developers initially.
I'm well aware by now that the house in Violet city is meant to represent the one near the Ruins of Alph. I even bring this up in 2nd part. However, I just want to point out that the one in the Violet city map, and the one in Ruins of Alph are two different buildings. When going out of bounds in Violet City, at no point do you cross into the Ruins of Alph map. This section of the map shown in the video is a normally unviewable dummy that was probably intended to create a false idea of how close the two areas actually were.
I think the whole reason for the segregated violet city house was to provide a look-in to the ruins of alph to make the view seem more realistic. I mean it has the actual ruins and research center at the top right corner in the right places.
I think the Cinnabar “Volcanic Eruption” was from the Volcano that created the island itself, so it would be underwater, the island may be there but the volcano probably hadn’t broken the surface yet.

0:44 Welp, not anymore thanks to the Virtual Console release. So glad they included the event as a permanent feature so we have a way of catching Celebi and actually owning it rather than waiting for the occasional event.
omg i remember gen 2 battling urself on the house with lvl 0 pokemon that freaked me out so much even in the remakes i was scared and found the same glitch
That house was built by a man who just wanted to isolate himself and have all the Halloween candy for himself, dammit! That's my theory for the house that you started this video with. And uh... 3:42 did they never intend Rhydon and Clefairy to move in this game? I honestly can't remember. I dunno about gen four, but at least for Pokemon Essentials, every character has a sheet with every frame of movement. A sheet that has multiple characters on it usually aren't meant to move around, or look around depending on the placement of the sprite on the sheet. Rhydon and Clefairy must've been on the same sheet and never intended to move. I could give a couple examples if anybody's curious about what the sheet looks like. I'm pretty sure somebody in Gamefreak said that the Safari Zone was dumped mid-way through making it because there were a lot of glitches that you could find by using the Safari Zone in gen 1, and they didn't want people ruining their games using the Safari Zone again.
The "unused house" (probably more a way to create a sense of scale in the player and orient the map makers as they created the city layouts) in Violet City is clearly meant to represent the northwest corner of the Ruins of Alph.
Something I found really interesting was the fact that you can walk through the pond in the Safari Zone. It's been a very long time since I've played these games, but I'm pretty sure that walking through bodies of water was not a thing. There's even a little water splashing animation whilst moving through it. Or maybe I'm just losing my memory...
I always assumed cinebar island was due to an old volcano, like Iceland in real life. also doesn't tediursa also have a chance to flee? I swear he does
IDK who'll see this but if you go to the trainer house and you've never done a mystery gift like he says you get to battle Cal, alternatively though the game does give you one person to battle and trade with, a small girl in the Goldenrod Dpt store, she is the npc necessary to activate the mystery gift ability and she can be seen at the trainer house with one of three preset teams with 6 pokemon 1 being a starter. Both Cal and Carrie are featured in Pokemon Stadium 2
The cool thing about Cal in the trainer house is that in the rom hack Crystal Clear, where the world is a lot more open, I ended up finding the trainer house early in my adventure, and the person who made the rom hack probably didn't bother to change anything about the trainer house, but because I was earlier in my game with lower level Pokemon and less badges than what one would have getting to the trainer house normally, when I battled Cal he had the weaker team. I'm not sure what determines his team, whether it's your Pokemons levels or more likely, how many badges you have, but it was cool to see that happen. I love how rom hacking tools and cheats allow us to learn about how a game works by changing one thing to find out how another thing is affected.
Having just discovered your videos, I decided to mess around with the walk through walls cheat and at Mt. Silver instead of the game crashing and restarting, it changed music to a familiar but unplaceable music track. I can upload a short clip if anyone wants to identify it?
The secret house is likely the same house by the ruins. As development progressed they decided to have the ruins on a different map, not in Violet City. The house wasn't removed before the game released. The cave system tempts the player to go left of Violet City where they could find the ruins or if they go down they find a berry tree. Alternatively, the cave could be the same one as Dark Cave and the house has an NPC that tells the player about flash. The house could also have a second NPC who wants a Teddiursa. In return you receive a Houndour. This is pure speculation. It could also be, another, pokemon like you trade a hoppip for a phanpy.
My theory for Pay Day to be used outside of battle ... Pokemon Gold and Silver had a lot of traditional Japanese influence, including kabuki and temples. And what do people do at Japanese temples? They donate money for good fortune! I wouldn't have been surprised if Pay Day originally was a field move that allowed the player to donate money at temple donation spots for ... some reason. Heck, maybe originally donating at a temple spot gave the player the 'good fortune' to increase the chances of a roaming legendary Pokemon to appear in an adjacent area? Ultimately a cute idea, but not really viable since you could just use Fly and the Pokedex location feature. Conversely, maybe donating at a temple gave the player the good luck to decrease the chances of a roaming legendary fleeing from battle!
It is a shame they left all this unused stuff in the game. Getting rid of some of it to free up space for the safari zone, or other story lines and extra stuff to do in the second half of the game would have been good
That first mystery "house" on the map of Violet City is just the research lab at the Ruins of Alph. Its the upper-right corner of that area that kinda overlaps.
6:22 not all Volcanoes are on mountains though. It was prob beneath the island and when it erupted the ground probably opened up like a huge vent destroying all the buildings with lava. that big mound of rock is what was prob left behind after the lava cooled.
When I was in elementary school and the Gold and Silver came out I actually bought a guide book (those were the thing in print back then!) that I'm pretty sure was at least half bootlegged, yet it featured the entire map of violet city including the house and I naturally jumped to the conclusion "Oh nice it shows the ruins of alph as well!" Of course this was waaaaay before my knowledge that game did not always load one gigantic open world of places but rather bits and pieces. I have to agree that it is a weird choice to model a part of the map that can't be seen during normal gameplay after a neighboring map.
Hey, about Cal. I remember one time battling him with the second stage Johto starters. I thought it was weird, but maybe there's a combination of locations to visit for each team? That said, I did play Crystal for like 8 years straight. I played the fuuuck out of that save file.
Gen 1 Pokemon actually has a couple Pokemon that use moves that act like a flee mechanic Abra with teleport, flying type Pokemon with whirlwind, and Pokemon like Growlithe that learn Roar. So technically the fleeing pokemon mechanic existed even in the 1st gen games.
It's been four years, but for anyone still wondering, that 'mysterious house' in the Violet City map? It's just a replacement for the Ruins of Alph house since that's where it would be located if everything was actually loaded as one big chunk instead of smaller maps. Something similar happened in Gen 1 with Viridian forest; the entirety of Viridian Forest is appearently located inside of one house and you can see the 'other side' of the house from either the north or south parts, but if you walk through walls, you'll find that the other side you see is just a tiny plaza with actual grass and enemies you can fight but you could never get into. Also, I've heard rumours that the reason the Safari Zone was cut was that, back in that day, they couldn't figure out how to have the Safari Zone without giving access to all those glitches and softlocks that came with the Safari Zone in Geni 1, so they just did away with the concept entirely. I've also heard rumours of some kind of 'build it yourself' style Safari Zone where you could choose or import or something, what Pokemon would appear in the Zone and be able to go catch them as the Warden of the Zone, but I'm not sure how founded that rumour is. EDIT: Well, he talked about the Mysterious House in Part II, my bad.

"just thought i'd drop by to say hello" **everyone starts booing**
me: i liked that pun
I fucking love how self-aware this guy is hahahah.
0:44 Welp, not anymore thanks to the Virtual Console release. So glad they included the event as a permanent feature so we have a way of catching Celebi and actually owning it rather than waiting for the occasional event.
Great content! I subscribed!
Thanks^
omg i remember gen 2 battling urself on the house with lvl 0 pokemon that freaked me out so much even in the remakes i was scared and found the same glitch
um, whar? I never heard of that before, you say it's a glitch?
Based on the game's layout, that mystery house and cave in Violet City's map are probably the Ruins of Alph and the research house thats there.....
Who's watching this towards the end of 2020? It's been crazy
The "unused house" (probably more a way to create a sense of scale in the player and orient the map makers as they created the city layouts) in Violet City is clearly meant to represent the northwest corner of the Ruins of Alph.
I didn't know there was a move called " ERROR! "
must be a AWESOME move
Something I found really interesting was the fact that you can walk through the pond in the Safari Zone. It's been a very long time since I've played these games, but I'm pretty sure that walking through bodies of water was not a thing. There's even a little water splashing animation whilst moving through it. Or maybe I'm just losing my memory...
Oh hey, FE fates music, and Lucy the Gardevoir. 10/10 subbing instantly.
Thanks! You can listen to the remix I used here: ua-cam.com/video/nAkoeVVBK7g/v-deo.html

I always assumed cinebar island was due to an old volcano, like Iceland in real life. also doesn't tediursa also have a chance to flee? I swear he does
Yeh that makes sense. At 6:21 I guess he just didn't know volcanic islands could go dormant.
Yeah it has a chance to flee
4:41 Her rhydon is still sick because she went to ecruteak city.
2:10 really has a different vibe when you're in quarantine...
I will tell others i know about your channel, i can tell you put a lot of woek into these!
Thanks, I appreciate that^
you woek hard I liek that
Thanks^
9:28 those aren't water fountains - they're Snorlax turds
IDK who'll see this but if you go to the trainer house and you've never done a mystery gift like he says you get to battle Cal, alternatively though the game does give you one person to battle and trade with, a small girl in the Goldenrod Dpt store, she is the npc necessary to activate the mystery gift ability and she can be seen at the trainer house with one of three preset teams with 6 pokemon 1 being a starter. Both Cal and Carrie are featured in Pokemon Stadium 2
You are VERY underrated I hope you gain more subs, I know a lot removed stuff but your videos show things I've never known. Keep up the good work
Thanks! The 2nd part is going up in the next few hours by the way.
Pikasprey Yellow cool
God, I fucking love your videos. Your voice, your humor, your snarky comments, it’s all fucking awesome. You’ve earned yourself a subscriber.
I'm supposed to study, But I can't stop watching Pikasprey's videos xD
The fact that you used road taken for music makes this video 1000x better
This is all so freaking interesting, love your vids dude!
Player: Hello there M'am
M'am: General Kenobi!
"Hello there!"
It's wholesome that you were so happy about 5k views. I'm glad you are doing well
I always just figured the house and cave there were just part of the Ruins of Alph, since it more or less corresponds with that area.
Thanks alot man! I just found your videos and now i can't stop binge watching them. I'm hooked!
That house in the beginning is from the Ruins of Alph by the looks of it.
It's because the track that was complete but unused in gold and silver that you found was redone and used in the intro of heart gold and soul silver.
Did you upload the clip of this music? I’m trying to find it but can’t
@@andersjacobson2487 Lemme see if I've still got the video

"3K"
And now 1.8 Mil, hot damn this channel has grown. I'm proud.
Haru is worse girl, sorry.
Trainer Cal could be short for "Calibrate/Calibration" Just an idea; take from it what you will.
So you're saying, Trainer Cal is secretly Garrus from Mass Effect?
It is a shame they left all this unused stuff in the game. Getting rid of some of it to free up space for the safari zone, or other story lines and extra stuff to do in the second half of the game would have been good
That first mystery "house" on the map of Violet City is just the research lab at the Ruins of Alph. Its the upper-right corner of that area that kinda overlaps.
Well, that makes sense
I am still loving this series, first gen especislly. It really brings back great memories and I really hope you continue to make them
I just can't wrap my head around how many subscribers you have. You absolutely should have so many more. Consider me a dedicated fan, my man.
I had less than 2,000 about a week ago.
ive recently come across your videos, and i love them. esp the dunking on creepy pasta writers. *chefkiss*

Dude you are amazing. These jokes with your sarcastic voice...... priceless.
The volcanic eruption was a bad cover story.
Mewtwo destroyed Cinnabar Island when it escaped the lab it was created in. 😁
6:22 not all Volcanoes are on mountains though. It was prob beneath the island and when it erupted the ground probably opened up like a huge vent destroying all the buildings with lava. that big mound of rock is what was prob left behind after the lava cooled.
That secret house is Steven's from the Strangled Red creepypasta
Pretty sure the house on the left at 1:37 is the house for the Unown lab with a printer
Maybe the field move ‘Pay Day’ was the precursor to the ‘Pickup’ ability used in later games, first noticed by me for Zigzagoon in R/S/E versions.
I seem to have a memory of a fountain in that bug contest area
Yeah, there's a giant fountain in National Park.
...unless you're referring to a totally different fountain. :o

I am impressed I found this. I may stick around :D
I was just calmly watching when I recognized the music around the roaming Pokémon section. Wasn’t expecting Fire Emblem right now, haha

I just found your channel in the side videos while watching another video, and I was interested in the video I saw at the time (which was your Hidden Content: Making Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow Almost Impossible video), so I watched it out of curiosity and loved it. I've now subbed and will be continuing to watch for future Pokemon content on your channel. And I find you quite entertaining in your videos, and them, quite enjoyable x3.
