  • OBI is a unique way of decorating and promoting products. You see OBI on the sleeves of Japanese vinyl records. But we do not put OBI not only records but also other products as well. I just smile when I see foreign customers hunting for the records with OBI which they really don't understand what is written there, haha.

My new copy of the Transformers G1 soundtrack came with an obi strip which I’ve never actually seen on an English language vinyl before, so that’s why I’m here haha

Thank you for your nice video and explanation of obi. A friend of mine recently turned me towards buying used Japanese LPs. I enjoy the obi and the additional inserts along with the excellent condition of the vinyl and record sleeves. I now buy Japanese CDs with the obi but my purchases have come from a collector in Germany.
Owning stereo gear from Luxman, Sansui, Technics and Pioneer, most people never think of buying Japanese pressings. A few years back on a tour of Japan I wanted to visit stores that sell HiFi gear and records, but there was no time. That would have been fun. Stay safe and keep on spinning!

Thanks for explaining Takashi. Most people in the Western world don't know what these are for, but for some reason, they want them! Cheers

Thank you for the informative video! I recently bought my first Japanese CD and was curious about the little bit of paper that was inside, behind the booklet. I learned that it was an OBi strip, but I didn't know how it was visually supposed to look on the CD, how it's placed, or why it was included. Thank you again!

Great glide of, I am a big fan of Japanese vinyl but most of my discs are rock rather than jazz/blues. But I will look out fir this genre too.

Sure, you should! I was like that long time ago. Maybe it takes little bit of time to feel the greatness of Jazz but its worth it!

I am not really familiar with japanese cd's. But i saw you easily detached/removed the obi. Is this true with most of the cds?

Thank you for the message! OBI of CDs are something different most of the cases unless the jacket is a paper jacket like LPs. OBI is usually put at the corner with shrink.

I am a record and CD collector, and I do not care for the OBI. Except in 1 case, when it had unique artwork. And receiving the single without the OBI made my day a little less great.

Music 🎼 🎶 🎵 question 🙋‍♂️ how come in Japan 🇯🇵 say foo fighters came out with the color and the shape album and the front is in English and the right side is in English and the back cover aka the tracklisting is in English and same thing that goes with the cd 💿 disc but how come in Japan 🇯🇵 the front of the album the back of the album the right side of the album 💿 and the cd 💿 disc and the recording artist like foo fighters are speak 🗣 in English but lyrics like English and Japanese are provided in the English and Japanese booklet?
