I started laughing at the part of the green spine... this afternoon ( Wednesday 9th) I spotted the turn right sign flattened on to the path, so watch out. Either of the kontelli men are anti bike , pro car, has been all the time.
Great video Well done for producing such a thorough analysis I can't understand why so many councillors throughout Victoria are against protected bike lanes
It's these local council shenanigans to oppose any kind of change that could be beneficial for someone outside a car that makes me really not sympathetic with their complaints about being stripped of planning power by the State Government in key activity centres. Those councillors don't want anything built anywhere and hide behind vacuous arguments about neighbourhood character and non-existent problems.
I have been a bike rider for a long time and I have never understood how a person is meant to attach their bike to one of those swirly spring looking bike racks. they irritate me so much. It has kind of made me want to get involved in improving bike infrastructure where I live
About 5-8years back, a number of different bicycle racks got taken out because it did not conform to the "standard" that was more broadly adopted in the CoGG. The term standard was used loosely without any planning references, obviously, but it was said in a manner to symbolise that there shouldn't be a deviation from other designs, however dysfunctional. Isn't it ironic how grossly inefficient, counter-productive, and dysfunctional transportation systems have become the cultural norm, to the point where people are prepared to fight tooth and nail to ensure that never changes?
Nice video and advocacy. It’s great to shine a light on local politicians. There isn’t enough coverage of things that affect our everyday life. Best of luck in Geelong. I’m from Brisbane but only recently realised some of the comments from local council, like pedestrian crossings are downgrades, who would ride a bicycle etc. like to redo my recent vote 😂.
An excellent analysis of which current CoGG councillors do and don’t support cycling infrastructure. Be sure to watch before you vote if you’d like to see less car centric and more people centric streets.
Similar clown circus going on in Perth. Great video mate. I think the reason that so many drivers are so opposed to active transport is because they have invested so much money into their vehicles. This makes them feel it “isn’t fair” that someone with a $500 bike is getting “all” the infrastructure development. Somehow they believe that those who spent more money should receive more infrastructure in return. Instead they should be angry that a system in which only those with expensive vehicles are afforded freedom of movement is the status quo. Again great video, love your dry wit mate.
Oh man adelaide is identical too. City council is full of nimbys because it also includes north adelaide which is literally full of mansions and old people
@@bikeroutebuddy I received a how-to-vote card from Aitken in the letterbox. I first used it to clean my bird bath and, being environmentally minded, I realised it had one more use. All I had to do was to vote in exactly the opposite order to the way he suggested and hey presto...problem solved.
It's a great shame that every bike group in this town and districts will, for some reason ,not gather together and form one cohesive lobby body... i know they're out there, and its the only way to make the councillors take notice.
Great video. Just want to say I really appreciate the extra effort you go to editing and overdubbing these videos. Too much great cycling advocacy out there that's unwatchable because half the audio is lost to wind noise and passing cars from live narration.
I hope you have some decent council election options in good ol' Geelong. I still have a soft spot for the city. Thanks for sticking with your channel.
I spoke with Melissa Cadwell when she attended the South Geelong Market a few weeks back and discussed bike lanes and cycling infrastructure. I came away with no idea whether she supports or opposes cycling improvements. She listened to what I had to say but said nothing.
Your videos are fantastic. I would love to try and connect over email as my family begins the moving process. We are heading to Geelong in March and getting a sense of whats happening there is a huge benefit.
Great work! What's wrong with these people? I'm as right wing as they come yet I despise cars and love bicycles and hope for infrastructure improvement...
@@jeremylukedominicbate7482 You and Durianrider should do a podcast together 😆 Surely there's a joke there. "A right wing cyclist and a vegan cyclist walk into a bar...."
You are as right wing as they come? Like you are a fascist? What a wierd thing to admit. But bikes are cool right ✅️ as long as it is ridden by a white person??
It's literally the exact same with the Adelaide City Council at the moment The ACC canned the only east - west bike link in adelaide city because they would lose 18 paid car parks even though they own all the multi story car parks in the city
We have got a section at the end of one of the main routes that needs 10 parks removed to connect up the main north/south route to the main east/west route, but city of Geelong won’t remove these parks. We covered it in the Bike Lanes to Nowhere video.
You should hear people complain that the city is dead and no one is in the city, and in the next breath say there are no car parks. If the city is dead, then the car parks will be empty!
I have a bike lane near me in Fitzroy St St Kilda. I even saw a bike in it this week. I only mention it because it’s so unusual. Been there basically unused for 30 years.
@@danielstapler4315 No, I didn't give any links. I asked why the local government would take away traffic lanes for car parking and gave an example of this in Carlton Rathdown Street, where the bus has gone in and out of traffic.
love your dedication while trying to educate the ignorant.
It’s probably not the ignorant I am trying to educate, it is more informing those that could be convinced!

The easy solution here is for the bike riders to buy more expensive bikes.
Alrighty then.
