    When I worked for the US Forest Circus, we used the S10. Big piece of crap, didn’t make one season before it died. The regular cab 1/2 ton 4x4 with the six cylinder and 4 speed held up ok. Just really slow. The one ton dump truck we had, with the 350 v8 and 4 speed was a beast. You couldn’t kill it. And we tried 😎.

      The 4.3 and 5.7 (the 4.3 is the two cylinder cutoff of the 350) are truly indestructible and torquey. You can try to kill em but you just couldn't do it.😁

    That log pull was insane. Guess it had a custom geared rear end like 8.5 to 1 ratio or something. Those old trucks sure do look good now days. Compared to the current tin can show queen versions of trucks. They need to show trucks doing this kind of thing in New adds. And the Chevy 3+3 cabs are holy grail trucks now.

      @@johndriscoll213 You wont be seeing any of these newer trucks on the road in 8 years, they end up turning into money pits, and the rich people who can afford them just get even newer ones, and the other ones have to be junked after their first crash, cause they crumble like tin cans. Nothing beats these old chevys though, 36 years and still running strong!

    I found the original build sheet for my late 70s model truck under the flooring on the passenger side floorboard. One of the coolest things that it shows is the address of the dealership the truck went to when it left the factory :)

      I found the build sheet for my ‘80 F-150 tucked up in the wires under my bench seat when I was reupholstering it. Unfortunately the paper was fragile, crumbled, and blackened. I was able to piece it together like a jigsaw puzzle though. It’s always interesting seeing the factory option codes and knowing exactly how the truck was ordered.

      Didn’t the 80 have a different frame from the 81+ F-150s? If I remember right, Ford was experimenting with a light weight frame design but ditched it in 81.

    • @chumbawaumbacumpa
      @chumbawaumbacumpa 4 роки тому

      @Ronin Kraut The lighter frames were used for the 80-81 model years, but Ford tweaked them for the 82 model year to be more stiff, due to complaints of frames developing a slight bend in one ton trucks while towing gooseneck trailers. The earlier frames have more circular holes cut out in the rails near the middle of the frame, later ones don’t. Before I put a lift and bigger tires on my truck I was getting 16 mpg highway, and with the 351M.

      That’s right. That’s pretty good mileage for the 351M. My parents had an 80 Bronco when I was born and it was the first vehicle I can remember. It started my long live affair with Ford and Broncos. Around that time the 351M had a bad rep due to the 70’s issues. When I was a teen looking for my first vehicle I can remember my dad saying to find one with the 351W. I ended up getting an 88 Bronco as my high school car. Ahh the memories

      Nowadays people don't buy manual because many people are just lazy to row the gears. Gone are the days that you can go to any dealer and find a manual equiped full size Chevy with a V8 engine. You had many customizable options and colors to choose from as well as your choice of transmissions and Engines of your liking. I wish I grew up in the 80s and I could've ordered my own 84 Stepside k10 with the fully loaded Silverado trim with the 5.7 and a manual transmission.

    The only trucks, IMO that could take more pure, hardcore, ass kicking abuse were the 73-79 fords.

    Of all the embellishments in truck advertising the 1/2 ton at the construction site is the silliest to me.
    Why buy real construction site equipment then? It’s way more expensive than a pickup. Oh yeah, coz it’s built to move way more all day every day. Not to move your friend’s couch now and again. LoL
    When I think about the stuff I do on a daily basis then picture doing it with a civilian pickup truck. Barely a few guys even drive a truck to work. More of us drive a corolla to work then get onto actual big boy machines and get the job done.

    i didn't like the s-10 i had. it had the 2.5 liter self burning 4 cylinder which was bad designing on chevy's part if you are going to use cheap materials the intake manifold is not the place for it.the intake would crack on cylinders 2 and 3 and would let fuel pour on to the hot engine so it could flair up and take the the truck with it if you didn't get the fire put out fast.i liked the s-10's Japanese version the isuzu p'up and the ford ranger better.but chevy did well with the c/k series pickups and vans.i had a 87 p'up with a 2.3 liter gas a 82 p'up with a 2.2 liter diesel which was in the s-10 trucks and my 87 ford ranger with a 2.3 liter gas engine.i currently drive a ford f250 with a 7.3 liter diesel and have plans on buying a 84 c10 pickup with a inline 6.
