Kenny DeMartini some early 1980 models still had the 79 headlight assembly. My dad had a 80 suburban which had the 79 front end.
@@mathewbutler35 Yeah, 80 was an odd year. They carried over the 79 style for about half the year, then they stuck rectangle headlights in place of the round ones for the rest of the year, before changing the whole front end for 81.
Please call me stupid ill really appreciate it lol- in 1979 I was young and stupid ( and like they say now I'm old and stupid) I had an opportunity to buy a new car or truck and I went to the 1979 trans am t tops , instead of a Toyota land cr. Or a full size van with everything in from refrigerator to folding bed or even a corvette or go cheaper and more reliable like a Toyota or Honda or vw bug convertible or the vw van but I didn't, today we have seen how much the Toyota 79 land cr. Have got very collectibles, as if that's not stupid enough for my decisions I even let go of a beautiful girlfriend I dated back then. Oh lord if I could only have a time machine lol.
That's a commercial that makes a guy wanna buy a truck, really bad 😂😂
Before 1973 there was quite a bit of difference between Chevy and GMC trucks and I think that they went back to that somewhere around 2010, I think!!!!!
Used a oil but so reliable. I have newer GM all over 250k only fuel pumps and wheel hubs fail. 6.0 l bulletproof motor
Yep, few want to accept that in the day, a care was considered worn out at 75 K.
@@bobroberts2371 I don't know about that. My 1967 Chrysler Imperial had over 300K on it when I dumped it. That car made the trip from Ottawa, Ontario to West Michigan at least three times a year from 1970-1975 and from Boston to West Michigan from 1967-1969, I moved back home in 1976. I had a 1969 Ford F200 (250? -- it has been so long that I don't recall but it was the one ton truck) that made it over 200K and that thing took one hell of a beating the way I used it (it also made the trip to and from Canada a couple of times). My uncle had a 1975 Olds Delta 88 coupe that was well over 250K when he finally put it out of its misery by letting his son use it in a demolition derby one summer.
@@mharris5047 All of these were bought new and were still on the original untouched engine and trans? I've repaired / rebuilt / replaced many 60's 70's 80's engines, the stuff lasted as long at the 90's , 00's and up stuff.
Have a look at this vid that eludes to engine wear. "

Didn't need a ladder to get in them back then?
Times when they still promoted the easy way to maintain and to repair a vehicle.
For sure not any more today. The manufactures to anything that nobody can do any service themselves.
This guy looks like the late actor Robert Loggia
This is frickin awesome!
Man I always loved the look of them Chevy trucks! My brother had one of those back then! His was a 4x4 with 3 speed manual on the column! I used to drive it once in a while! What a great truck it was!👌😎👍
I own a 1984 GMC 1500 47,000 miles....only one owner
I'm a Ford guy but I love these commercials I have a square body dump truck that I use for my yard 77 it's a great truck They were trucks back then their Junk now they're all junk
GMC SHOULD TAKE NOTE OF THIS VIDEO HINT HINT🤔🤔🤔
The guy at the end must be the dad to the guy who does the "would you look at that videos"
I honestly didn't know they had commercials for these trucks. I grew up riding around with my grandad in these and the 69s and I can tell you as far as trucks that you could just drive and use all day everyday these were excellent and still are and as far as comfort there on par with most all chevy silverados top quality so what if the radios never worked the most expensive one was a thousand dollars
This fuckin guy...besides music and fashion these days made more sense...
I'm in the market for a 1978 or 1979 Chevy or GMC. I need 4 wheel drive, but i plan on using it for fun not work. 8' stepside bed and the high trim level that gives a hood ornament. I will be adding a KC lightbar, lifting it, and otherwise giving it period correct modifications and paint job. Nothing modern- as far as I'm concerned, the year is 1979. I like the image of the GMC, but I also like the clean face of the Chevy.
Who in the hell ever dropped the glove box and said that’s where I can put my coffee cup?
Well there were no other cupholders anywhere.

even when brand new.... ya gotta slam them

@@deannahext what?
I live in montana..... I know how to dress for cold (-50f with a 70mph wind = about -100f)
And My 77 chevy has never quit me longer than the 30 seconds it took to plug the wire back into the fuel pump (went from mechanical to electric)
kain hall When you said ...you gotta slam them,I thought why would you want to lower a 4x4 and get her buried in snow or mud? This film brought me back to old jargon even.
kain hall best part of the truck lmao
I've always wondered, isn't the term Maximum GVWR a bit redundant? Isn't the the GVWR always a maximum number? Its not like there's a minimum GVWR. I guess its the same number as the plain ole GVWR.
Sounds better to say Maximum

It makes me sade that there is a bunch of new garbage drive ing down the rode. I wish all they old chevy were still on the road
I have a 01 GMC Searra SLE today ! Mom has a 2011 Chevy she likes my GMC much better than her Chevy ! At 53 and today's market, that's my last truck ! Had her since 05 ! 👍

Christ on a bike they don't make trucks like these again
Thanks, Awesome
The guy at 3:40 is the reason i shaved my head!
To bad these old trucks rusted out so fast, they were made with cheap metal. They are nice to drive.
use Filter-Film on the underbody and they last a long time
@@timothykeith1367 Never heard of that.
@@crushingvanessa3277 Filter-Film and similar products are made of lanolin - basically hand cream. Lanolin is wool oil from sheep and naturally resists oxidation. You usually apply Filter-Film every year or so, but its not expensive. When you re-apply it, you can address any minor rust.
@@timothykeith1367 thanks.
New they didn't drive bad. I was a Dodge or Ford guy but my father's mid and late 70's K20s drove just fine for me when I did drive them (we used them in a family logging business, I was the paperwork jockey since I was also an accountancy and taxation professor).
i like how the automakers now take all the options that nobody wants & make them standard so that you have to buy them, & they can charge you for them anyway.HEY GM, FORD & RAM save your unwanted shit for luxury cars & get back to building reliable trucks.a luxury seat & interior dont mean shit when your constantly waiting for a towtruck to haul you new truck back to be repaired AGAIN!!!

.....it took gm forever to do an extended cab......not the 2+2
"Find the fuel tank. Fuel weighs six lbs. a gallon. So where the tank is....ah, let's move on to the next topic".
Love the hairdo
I miss the Detroit Diesel.
Family only drove Fords and GMs. Now today I would not want the current offerings by ford or gm
Trucks where so simple back then! lol
11:05 Is the instrument panel made of metal? They sure we're back then. Now it's all just plastic
Back when men were men...and permanently disabled in crashes.
wow bad comb-over and then a hair helmet geez the old days
I couldn't look away from that comb over!
Back when trucks were used for work , and they had an 8 foot bed and 16 inch wheels . Now everyone drives a lift kitted grocery getter. Of course today's generation doesn't need a work truck because they don't want to work
They will one day.
Does it Do a Burn Out
With a side impact collision, yes, it will burn-out.
That’s why the Shocks are mounted transverse. To eliminate wheel hop.

I wonder where that truck is now
It has likely been recycled. It is likely a pre production mule because the fuel tanks were not painted on production models.
A bunch of cats living in it on somebody's front yard
Gas tank strapped outside of frame, ready to blow up, ford, dodge tank mounted inside frame. Fuck gm
What a great company!!! And the lady CEO wants to destroy it. Get her out before its too late...👍
I know.
I thought the came rusty from the factory !
Only the inner wall. It took about 3-4 months for the outer wall to rust thru.
OOoohhh there were so rusty.

How did these ever sell with zero USB ports?
Take a 2020 2500HD back to 1978: "How will these ever sell without an ash-tray?"
OK, anyone know what "CA" means?
Cab to axle
@@Sid-jx4gl Thanks!
Look at the frame why is it only a C channel we can have a steering box mouse in a frame so eventually it will torque and rip right off look at the hood see how it will kink in the middle look at the gas tanks see how they’re mounted on the outside so when you hit them they explode see the metal fender wells see how they rust
We bought a new 3500 in 78, hauled 2000 to 5000 pound dies dies with it, it didn't last very long. The chassis was no where need as heavy duty as our 03 we have now.
What's C A?
I believe it stands for cab to axle. As in the measurement from the back of the cab to the centerline of the rear axle. I might be wrong on this so don't take it for the gospel.
