    So first time i rebuilt the carb on any of mine i had this problem. The snorkel tube and airbox have to be on. They are a slight restriction and if taken off it will cause it to run lean. You could re-jet it. But easiest fix is put it back the way the factory designed it to be.
    Tore it apart a dozen times swap on another carb. Ended up saying f-it for now and put it back together. Problem went away. Figured out without the airbox and snorkel tube it runs lean.

    I see you found the issue but, a bad voltage reg can act like that as well.

    AM,
    Have you found the problem?
    I had the exact same problem. I have a 92 model. It would sit and idle like it was brand new, but when you gave it throttle it would sputter like that one is doing.
    Under your battery compartment hood, you will see a black box that says "main fuse/spare fuse." You're fuse is probably ok like mine was, but the wires underneath were not making good contact in the plug. That main fuse connection obviously controls spark to the plug. When I made the connection solid the engine raced on up with the throttle without the sputter. I have since cut out the Suzuki black box with the plug and installed an inline automobile fuse. It fixed it for good. I can replicate the condition by removing the fuse, or pulling the wire out of the connector.
    I know it sounds too easy but I would bet that is your problem.

      YES! The problem was the spark pickup! It was too shallow causing it to be too far away from the stator! I stole one out of a donor quad and it fired right up! New video of the updates and progress will be out shortly! Thanks for watching!

    I loved the intro to your vid. Also do you think the caltrec one way bearing was weak or do you still believe it was the carb issue? I ask because my starter also turns when i use the pull cord. Just got this thing and that was the first thing i noticed.

    • @AimlessMoto
      @AimlessMoto  4 роки тому

      If the starter is spinning when you pull it it is definitely the 1-way bearing, but that won't change how it runs at all. I would recommend getting a new one from Suzuki and avoiding the Caltric one. The reason the quad was running so poorly was because of a Caltric Stator... mainly the spark pickup was bad.

    Hello. good evening. I'm from Portugal. i bought a suzuki quadrunner 250, 4t, from 1993. on the left side above the front wheel there is a box with two rubber menbranos inside the same box. it has two tubes that go to the carburetor and another to the engine. I notice that one of the tubes coming out of the carburetor box is not doing right. can you tell me what it might be?

    • @AimlessMoto
      @AimlessMoto  3 роки тому +1

      That's the fuel-pump. It runs off of engine vacuum.

    Hey is it running ok yet? I,m fixing a quad runner for my son and have similar problems with one way gear, poor idle but sometimes really high idle. Takes forever when letting go of the throttle until it goes down to idle. When I bought it the guy selling told me the valves very faulty which they may be but I found that the engine was full of gasoline. That might make it run a bit strange... Think the one way gear problem might have to do with this. Anyway, looking forward to an update on this project.

    • @AimlessMoto
      @AimlessMoto  4 роки тому +1

      The 1-way gear is only for starting on the pull starter... if your starter stays engaged while pulling on the pull-start, it's bad. The running issue was chased down to a bad spark-pickup coil from my aftermarket Caltric unit. I found a good, used Suzuki one and she runs AMAZING now, I also swapped the CV carburetor over to a Mikuni VM30, and it's really peppy!

    • @NilsKall
      @NilsKall 4 роки тому

      AimlessMoto thanks for the answer, turned out there was no problem with the one way gear, it was the starter motor and the gear that connects motor to one way gear that was problematic. The case was broken so the gear didn’t sit against the starter which of course ruined it. So big problem to fix. Looking forward to a video of your progress!

      Nah, I figured it out after putting a test-light on the spark plug wire while it was running... the spark died at 1/4 throttle. Threw in a new pickup sensor and it works perfectly now!

    the fuel pump is your problem it is spring loaded and the vac line has hard time passing the fuel i had the same problem and i fixed it by using a riding mower pump from john deer and the problem went away. here is 1 of my videos of many on the king quads 300 ua-cam.com/video/dRkqPK8Bi_8/v-deo.html is video will go into more detail about it and it shows that same mistake i made when buying that same fuel pump you did also make sure your needle is set at the half way point

    • @AimlessMoto

      It was the spark pickup, changed it out for the one in the spare quad and it ran perfectly.
