I personally prefer when your vlogs have spoilers but with a SPOILER warning (while you are going over the spoilers). This way if I haven't read the book I can still watch the vlog and get all hyped up if you like the book. If I read the book later I just come back to watch the video again with the spoiler to get the full experience. This is what I did with 11/22/63. I watched your video skipping the spoiler sections and just from your reactions I was extremely eager to read the book. Once I read it I then watched the video again and I was like "YES, YES, YES" with your spoilers!

Stephen King wrote Salem's Lot when he was a professor and was surprised to see his student still fascinated with Dracula. It is kind of a pastiche of that, hence the gloomy gothic style and the perspectives.
    Glad you enjoyed it!

The part I loved was Barlow’s letter. My god, it was terrifying! It was more about what he didn’t say than what he did say! You really got a grasp of how ancient and powerful he was. You really realized what they were truly up against. He was evil personified. What chance in hell did they have really? I just love this book. Its sublime

I read this book back in '78. I was only 10y/o. It was the first book I ever read.. Far too young to be reading novels like that but I couldn't put it down. It was during the summer when school was out.
Couldn't sleep with the windows open for weeks. Never opened the blinds at night. Absolutely terrified me more than any movie ever did.

But just before I woke up I found out how to stop the vampires. What you do is say the word "safe" before the vampires get within 6 feet (2 meters) of social distance. It's true. When I woke up and realized what I dreamed, I laughed

I think that what King was trying to achieve was to make the town the main character of the book. And I believe he accomplished this to perfection. This book is definitely about the last days and death of a small American town. The vampires are just the icing on the cake. This is my favorite Stephen King novel. It always will be. It's a story with so many great moments.

My first time watching your blog. I enjoyed it. Very cute. Loved your reactions, review etc. I'm a S.K. fan. Salem's Lot is definitely in my top 10 favs of his books. Maybe even top 5. King recycles names, but he also recycles whole characters. He's very into "alternate dimensions" or he'll take a character and give them a certain persona and moral compass, then he'll play around with stories where that character is a different age, or in a different time, has different family ties or even a disability. Its hard to explain. However, the more you read his stuff, the more you'll notice it. Almost always, one of his main characters is always some type of artist, either a writer or a musician etc. Just like you pointed out.
It was fun to see a young person, who obviously never watched the cult-classic made-for-tv movie based on the book, watch and react to this beloved classic. Great editing of the video too btw 👍

I had to write a little cheat sheet of all the characters (or most of them) to keep them straight. Especially because some characters had similar names like you mentioned. Shirley Jackson's writing style is a lot of one paragraph sentences and stuff like that. Look her up if you get the chance. Her life was a mess haha. Glad you found a King book you actually enjoyed! I'm happy to see another Stephen King reading vlog from you! 'Salem's Lot is a King book that my opinion seems to chance all the time. I did not love it but it was good for what it was. It definitely creeped me out (wasn't really scary, like actually scary) and I can really relate to that window thing. I was living alone in my apartment when reading this and feeling scared to even look at the windows with curtains covering them :D In my opinion, The Shining is great in that slow-burn type of plot but 'Salem's Lot is not. But 'Salem's Lot is creepy and atmospheric! And my opinion to 'Salem's Lot may have something to do with the fact that I hadn't read much King before reading that and I didn't really know what to expect.
And this vlog is atmospheric and inspires me to read :D

Jerusalem's Lot-Cumberland-Falmouth area and the other one was @ an elderly widowed lady's account of the night of 6/4/1976
(Fri) when she heard that distinctive scratching sound on her window and then looking up to see a
VERY scary, grinning face supposedly of a vampire and then apparently suffering a heart attack as a result.

The problem with people reading Salem's Lot is everyone think the Vampires are the main element of the story..... The story is more focused on the Marsden House and it's negative influence on the town and the towns corruption. Many small towns have stories of the "haunted" abandoned house on the outskirts or in the Town with various stories about it. I love the twist that those who were miserable in life find some form of happiness and "peace" as vampires.

And as I am listening to this, I remember for me, one of the parts from the movie that scared me a lot was when Danny (I think it was that character) goes to his friend's house after he dies, and he is tapping on his window asking to be let in (and of course his friend's room is on the 2nd story). I bet if I watched the movie now, I probably wouldn't be as scared, but who knows.

This was the window scene that freaked me out: ua-cam.com/video/vV1V0U41HI4/v-deo.html But I just watched it again, and that scene is not as scary to me because of the make-up. But as a 7 year old--so scared! Ok yeah, I am commenting as I am watching this video, and yes, I see that you were freaked out in the window scene too! It is creepy!

You are so brave to read Salem's Lot. I don't dare to read that book. I saw the movie years ago when I was a kid and I was so scared. I will just watch your video and watch any spoilers. (I love vanilla covered pretzels too.)

I loved this book its a five star from me. I loved the pacing. I love big thick books I can sink my teeth into (pun intended) so I loved all the chapters where he was setting the scene of the town. This books terrified me in two parts. The boy at the window, and when the gravedigger sat up smiling in bed after he died. I get your points on the ending but the rest of the book was too good for me not to enjoy it. Keep your windows shut !

I've finished The Shining (my first Stephen King book finished)
I have finished IT(The first book that gotten me interested in Stephen King)
I'm working on Cujo right now
Even though this has some spoilers, I'm still low-key reading it
The other three I got is Carrie, Doctor Sleep and The Outsider
If you have read any of those, I wanna hear your thoughts about any of the ones if you have read them

Gabby, Ur inspiring me to establish a reading vlog, only mine will be strictly reading @ railroad, Cowboy/Old West, Gold mining, Civil War and Logging/logging rr histories ⚒️🚂💂🤠🌲
Also, this Summer, to initially set a contrasting mood of reading about turn-of-the-century history in the present day, I'm going to a local family aquatic center nearby me on a warm sunny day to read it pool side. Just keep looking
    out for it.

I remember the same confusion with the similar sounding names of main characters, Matt, Mark, Mike...seriously! With every single minor character in town getting a brief arc, SK couldn't come up with better distinguishing names for the main characters?!

I'm not even 2 minutes in when you say something about it being about 600 pages long so it's one of his bigger books. Funny but when I see a Stephen King book that length I consider it one of his shorter ones lol.

I read Salem’s Lot back in 2004 when my Army unit first got to Iraq. Lol. It was a good time to zone out on a Stephen King book during my downtime, maybe that’s the reason I lucked out and never got PTSD 🤔

Speaking of movie adaptations being different from the book...you should read Stepford Wives. The original book is dark AF. Also, it’s short. You’ll breeze right through.
