FYI, this exact frame from this video (size longish, special edition sparkle paint) is in my possession and is for sale. Contact Brian at Smith creek cycles if you're interested in buying it.
I’m really stoked to see this frame make its way to your channel! I’ve had a Sirius S5 for a few months now. I’m almost 6’2 and ride a “longer” frame with a SID Select 120mm 29” fork. I’ve ridden it full 29 and mullet (which it has now spent most of its life), and more recently, Singlespeed. Can definitely say this is one of the best, most versatile and fun hardtails I’ve ever ridden by a long shot. Can also say that I whole heartedly agree with your two gripes about the dropper post cable routing and more importantly, the stack height which stays the same throughout the frame sizes. If you ride a long or longer frame, keep that steer tube uncut until you know for sure, and be prepared to run a bar with 20-40mm rise without a doubt, as well as the longest dropper post you can find. 200mm travel and lots of length required for myself anyways. Anyhow, craftsmanship and design are second to none on these frames and they are a super rad company!
I’m running an oval 34T ring on mine with plenty of room. My guess would be a 36 or MAYBE 38T round chainring, depending on Crankset. Definitely has a nice amount of clearance but 42 is pretty huge.
Man, you're a full on mind reader. Got a Next gen Sherpa but have been looking at the Sirius as like you I think 120mm is enough. Plus if I ever do go monstercross there's the flat mount rear brake adapter. One frame to rule them all. That sparkle paint is rad AF also.
I'm really looking forward to your thoughts on the Sirius S5, since I own one, in silver fox and the longer size. I'm 6 foot tall, with longer legs and shorter torso than average. I find the size perfect. I've had it for about 10 months now, I plan on keeping this bike for a loong time, it's so versatile. Works well for XC and shreds trails. I have two sets of wheels, one for each type of riding. I run it with 29x2.6s, a 120mm SID and 210mm oneup dropper (I have room for a 250mm dropper!)
Yes! And the Hardtail Party circle is complete. I found Smith Creek Cycle because I was searching for a Banshee Paradox based on your videos. Brian and I talked about the Sirius vs the Paradox and I ended up buying a Paradox. Since then, I've been hoping you'd review the Sirius. Now this morning, here's the first look AND with a shoutout to Brian and his shop. So good.
That bike looks amazing. I have been interested in Pipedream for a while. I have actually had a Moxie in the cart a few times but just couldn’t pull the trigger because I felt that it would be more bike than my trails require. The Sirius is a different story though and I can’t wait for the review. Great to see support from 🇨🇦 as well. Thanks HP.
It's refreshing to meet people like you that understand that less is often more, especially in the hardtail world. I've learned that if i don't have the trails to push a bike into its intended use, it's not the right bike for me.
I think I am just as excited about this bike review as you are! I have been looking at the Sirius and the Moxie for a few months now and can't wait for your review on how it rides. The low stack on paper has been my biggest concern, since my current Vassago is well above 600.
I bought a Sirius from Smith Creek Cycle in the summer and built it up with as many North American parts as I could. Such a fun bike - I love it. I’m very interested to hear your thoughts on the ride.
I’m excited for you. I have the Sirius 4G and absolutely love it. This new one has all the things I liked about the previous model with some improvements. I especially like the low seat post height for rowdy mode. Looking forward to your ride review.
Can confirm that the "Mx" stands for Moxie. Not a physical element per say, but it is very present in the design and how you'll approach the trails from now on ;)
I can't wait to hear what you think about this bike. I've been eyeing it for a while, but haven't been willing to pull the trigger because of the stack height. Also, I'm curious to know how you compare this to your underforked Banshee Paradox. Cheers!!
I deal with hand numbing from past life and being a mechanic so I always have about 1” extra.if I indo I’ll never hit it I like to bounce back and forth if I can have the stack too hi or too low I’m happy with that.
Recommend the DMR Defy 50 stem for slightly raising a low stack. Best value stem out there and looks amazing. The 50mm one has a better clamp than the 35.
I'm a total Adventx 10sp convert. It just works. Shifting is precise in the shifter and I like the 2 piece cassette. I don't even miss the double downshift on my old XTset up. Looking forward to the ride review!
It's my favorite drivetrain for the price. Zero issues after many many miles. It's a little more fragile when it hits rocks, but I try not to do that anyway.
So it is a 10speed cassette? Can I ask what range you use? Sounds good though as I assume it works with standard Shimano HG freehub so you are free to swap to singlespeed? Thank you
Hi Steve First of all, thanks for the great job you're putting together, I like it a lot.Concerning this particular frame (and maybe others after all), I would suggest that you MEASURE the geometry figures.Because I've bought one and realized after that the geometry might have been calculated not with a 120 mm fork at SAG, but with a rigid fork, which is quite different. From what I have seen on the frame that I own, the real angles once equipped with a 120 mm fork are closer to 62.5° head angle (you read that right!) and 73° seat angle. This was quite a disappointment on my side...I'd be glad to hear from you on these numbers. Thanks again!
@@hardtailparty I measured it with a huge mechanical protractor which is really precise. I measured the angle between the ground and the lower legs of my fork. I think you really should try to do the same measurement. Thanks!
@@manueldeslis6038 I've actually been working on a geo measurement device. It's almost ready for primetime. I have a feeling 95% of bikes' geo charts don't match actual geo.

But it's still kinda interesting to hear your thoughts on it though ;)
I realllyy wish they did an xl I’d for sure have already ordered it. I just have to talk myself into 485 being enough. I’d love to know the rad w a 50m stem

I liked the design and geo numbers so much that I went ahead and ordered a frame without even waiting for your ride review! Haha. Ordered direct from Pipedream/UK to USA, will see if I get hit with any import duties and whether I come out ahead or not vs ordering from Canada. Since I'm a total rube I forgot UK is pounds, not euros, so the difference isn't going to be as much as I initially thought. I'm 6'1" and I went for the "longer" size.
An update - Just got mine in! I ordered "Marine Blue" thinking it was the dark sparkle color (Midnight Blue? I love the sparkles!) but mine is actually more of a turquoise. Pipedream should update their bike pictures with the current colors, but I'm still happy with what I received. I might have gone with the green-tan color instead if I knew that's what it was, but I do dig the turquoise as well so I plan on keeping it.
The low stack might be a deal-killer for me. Although I don't need more than 120 mm of travel, the extra stack that comes with a 150 fork has been a game change....but maybe with some Defiance Arise bars, just maybe....🤔 100 mm of stem spacers = dorky AF 100 mm of riser bars = baller

Is it just me or do you agree that Hardtail frames seem to have better Geo than full suspension bikes? You have me wanting another new steel hardtail, damn! BB standards are ridiculous. I have several tools too and honestly I’m considering getting another custom frame and start using the T47 BB.

"Happy with the quality I've been seeing out of Taiwan lately." I mean.. Taiwan has always been top notch. From frames to components to hand tools etc etc. A few examples of companies that have manufacturing based in Taiwan.. SRAM, Rockshox, Truvativ, Avid.
I have repeatedly looked at purchasing a pipedream frame. Moxie is too much bike for what I ride, and the stack height for me, at 6'2", has kept me from pulling the trigger on the Sirius. Interested to hear what you have to say in the review.
Hi Steve. Nice video as always. May I ask what is your seat height? You are 5'6' tall, and you prefered the long size after riding both sizes (longish and long). I'm 5'5' and afraid that the 46,5cm reach of the long, may be too much, although Pipedream also recommends the long for my height. Did you used the same stem length on both sizes? 50mm? Thanks.
@@hardtailparty The Sirius seems like the more unique frame, the one that might have something really special going on. Interested to find out what you uncover, good or bad.
To raise that effective stack (bar height), is there a reason not to run a 140mm fork. The seat angle is plenty steep. The hta would only slacken by a degree once sagged. I'm with a lot of other riders that the stack height does seem low.
Great review as usual. I have a question that is sort of related: I have an older MTB with 26" wheels, a 135mm dropout with quick release, and a 120mm fork. The geometry is horrible, the reach is 405 mm and I am 6 ft tall. Here is the hard part: I want to get a new, longer frame (preferably about 470-485mm reach ) but it has to be sorta compatible with my old fork and wheels. Do you have a recommendation for a suitable frame? I have done extensive research but have not come across anything that would (even remotely) fit the bill. Do you happen to have any clues for me? Thanks a ton in advance!
i hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that's a tall order. It's probably time for a new bike with the geo you're looking for. Thru axles, boost, tapered forks, they all play into the modern geo favorably.
Dan can sometimes do custom frames. Reach out and see if it's a possibility. I know they're SUPER busy with their ti fs bike they announced recently though. I'd love a long Sherpa with a short seat tube to see what it's like. Maybe one day...
@@hardtailparty yes, that would be great. I own an Orbea Occam but tempted to sell and go back to a hardtail. (Still own a Niner EMD). Love your vids 👍
I haven't reached out to them because none of their models have any geo that has interested me. But if they want to send me a frame for review I'm happy to.
I'm stoked you got the longish size for the review, at 5'8" I'm also in the long size of their range, but I wouldn't want to exceed 450m reach for my style of riding. Very curious to hear how the geo compares to the Nimble 9/Big Al
Aggressive geometry i.e. less XC in flavour (slack head angle, long reach, low bottom bracket, which collectively make it well suited to ploughing down steep, technical terrain)
And as the owner of Sirius S5 it is definitely capable: have taken it down some v steep runs with no issues, but also take it on long less technical rides, sometimes with a rigid fork. V versatile!
@@thearetf thank you. For some reason I was thinking aggro = aggregate. Like it is good for a variety (or aggregate) uses. (I.e. bike packing, pump track, trail...). Thanks!
Hey man. Where are you based at? I'm traveling to AZ in January, is it possible to go ride with you? Planning on a longer trip since I'm flying from FINland and would love to rent a bike there.
Every hardtail is on my radar, but I'm not on every company's radar. ice been chatting with canyon, but they don't have a single bike in stock to send out for review.
Another vote for BB standards. I think I have the one you needed but a lot of good that does HP, Ha! I see on the Pipeline site that they make a rigid fork for the Sirius. Any thoughts on that setup as you do your review would be appreciated.
That'd be interesting to try it with a rigid fork. My terrain is far too chunky to make a meaningful video with a rigid fork. Maybe I'll have to travel and try it rigid.
@@hardtailparty I posed this question someplace else. Pipedream responded as follows… The Mx in the list of elements is a cheeky addition of Moxie to what is the composition of chromoloy tubing: it's the Moxie magic 🙂 Mox·ie (mŏk′sē) n. | Courage; guts | Aggressive energy; initiative | Skill; know-how."

@@hardtailparty Yes, all hardtails ride the streets including my low-budget hardtail I ride each day. Just wondert how this one performed.
really keen to hear you thoughts on the new giant fathom
I'm curious too, but sadly i haven't been able to get one.
@@hardtailparty Looks interesting thats for sure. Never been a giant fan (pure snobbery on my part) but this one has that look about it
Gorgeous bike
would love to see a on one hello dave review one day
To raise that effective stack (bar height), is there a reason not to run a 140mm fork. The seat angle is plenty steep. The hta would only slacken by a degree once sagged.
I'm with a lot of other riders that the stack height does seem low.
Bb will be raised, reach will be shortened too.
First time I've heard you mention the Stif Squatch in a video. Have you had a chance to test one yet?
Ive tried to get one many times for review, but no luck
@@hardtailparty Interested to know your thoughts on the geo (noting that the 80mm BB is static measurement!).
Im interested too. Hopefully one day they'll send one in for review. I have a feeling that low bb will be an issue in some terrain
@@hardtailparty That's fair. I sorta came to the same conclusion.
If you weren't tall, id have a cheap($419) answer
Your option is a waltly custom TI frame.. probably around 1k these days
Dang! That’s the one, great paint job! If only Dan made the Sherpa’s seattube a bit shorter it would still be the one. Hope Dan hears this…. :)
Is the new 4130 Sherpa you have coming a custom geo?
No. Same exact geo. I'm wanting to compare frame feel between the reynolds 853 and the 4130. So they'll be identical aside from that.
Another fun review! Any reasons why you haven’t reviewed a single Vassago? I believe they are an Arizona based company….
I haven't reached out to them because none of their models have any geo that has interested me. But if they want to send me a frame for review I'm happy to.
Gotcha. I was thinking the VerHauen steel would be a good contender in this realm. Thanks again for all the great videos
@@bradleyjohnston3434 I've ridden a friend's verhauen for 1/2 mile, and i dug it.
Can you please ride this bike to review. I'm so close to pulling the trigger. The stack has me worried though.
If you need my opinion on the bike before the review drops, you can always become a bike consultation patron
Dream frame
When will the review hit? I am about to drop a dime on a new frame...
In a few weeks. If you need info before then, i recommend becoming a bike consult patron.
I missed the brand and name of the brakes you run, could you drop a link? Not dealing with brake fluid appeals to me.
See my video on the Paul klampers. Not cheap, but they're lifelong brakes.
I had the same issue with my praxis cranks and the local shop couldn’t help. Had to buy the stupid praxis tool. Bike “standards”
I'm stoked you got the longish size for the review, at 5'8" I'm also in the long size of their range, but I wouldn't want to exceed 450m reach for my style of riding.
Very curious to hear how the geo compares to the Nimble 9/Big Al
You're going to like my review video. Coming soon...
@@hardtailparty looking forward to it 💪
I thought the site shows you can run up to a 140 with 29s.
You could try a strap wrench on that Bottom Bracket
It almost came to that.
@@hardtailparty or a strap oil filter wrench
waiting for this review patiently :/
What do you mean by "aggro" in the description? I have heard this term a few times lately but it's not clear what it means.
Thanks!
what do you think of Chromag Frame!!??
See my review of the chromag stylus
I've got the Praxxis BB tool. Need it?
Not anymore. :/ Thanks though.
What width rim was the Coronado 29x2.8 on for that test fit?
40i
Man. Was waiting for the Podsol to come back in stock but this bike has piqued my interest!
Very similar vibe. Spoiler: this one is shreddier.
@@hardtailparty I feel like I need to snag one now haha probably gonna sell out quick when you drop the ride review
@@hardtailparty question is, will it work on my XC trails?????? TBD!
Imagine if it was made out of Reynolds 853
Hey man. Where are you based at? I'm traveling to AZ in January, is it possible to go ride with you? Planning on a longer trip since I'm flying from FINland and would love to rent a bike there.
I'm in Sedona, AZ. From time to time i post meetups on my Instagram page.
@@hardtailparty thanks for response, I'll check it out. How is the weather up there in January, is it bikable?
@@MikaHakkinen83 usually, but it's chilly and can be snowed in
@@hardtailparty Sounds like home then. No polar bears yet
Siriusly?!
Great playful 29er for non 6 footers.
What are the clips you used to secure the shift cable at 13:35?
I don't remember what they're called. They're the standard clips for these bosses.
@@hardtailparty Thanks. Not that cable ties are hard, but those would be nice for replacing the housing.
canyon stoic not on the radar for review?
Every hardtail is on my radar, but I'm not on every company's radar. ice been chatting with canyon, but they don't have a single bike in stock to send out for review.
Another vote for BB standards. I think I have the one you needed but a lot of good that does HP, Ha! I see on the Pipeline site that they make a rigid fork for the Sirius. Any thoughts on that setup as you do your review would be appreciated.
That'd be interesting to try it with a rigid fork. My terrain is far too chunky to make a meaningful video with a rigid fork. Maybe I'll have to travel and try it rigid.
The last element on the seat tube is Mx...Moto-X???
Mx is the only one listed that isn't a real element. lol
MX for 'Moxie', I think.
Yeah, I wondered too. This one isn't the moxie model, but pipedream loves to talk about "moxie" or 'swagger'.
@@hardtailparty I posed this question someplace else. Pipedream responded as follows…
The Mx in the list of elements is a cheeky addition of Moxie to what is the composition of chromoloy tubing: it's the Moxie magic 🙂
Mox·ie (mŏk′sē) n. | Courage; guts | Aggressive energy; initiative | Skill; know-how."
Yup, the changing stds for absolutely nothing. Drives me nuts.
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeettttttttttt 🙌🙌🙌
There is only one real pipedream and Wade Simmons owns it.
Oooo, sounds dreamy... bye
