  • Bombardier CRJ (Canadair Regional Jet) is a regional airliner family, developed in the 1990s. The family is quite large and divided, conditionally, on two generations: CRJ100 and 200, and their successors CRJ700, 900 and 1000.
The whole company became very popular in the aviation world, for now approximately 1,900 planes have been delivered.

I’m pretty sure a CRJ pilot would wreck a Navajo they had to hand fly on steam gauges with no flight director... or a Republic SeeBee doing a glassy water landing... or a Pitts Special trying to take off.... etc etc etc.
Push buttons, and don’t use VS mode to climb to FL410... and you’ll be fine.

@@Bartonovich52 As a lifer at OO, I have over 9,000 hrs. on the CRJ series...not sure what makes you think I'd be too dumb to fly other airplanes without wrecking them but it's a pretty arrogant (ignorant) assumption to troll other pilots like that. Long ago, I earned a type on the 737-200, which makes a Navajo look like a tricycle. I would never suggest that you (as a pilot) would be incapable of earning the same type certificate with enough training and practice. ...unless you aren't capable of course. ...still not for me to decide. Pilots (real pilots) are typically pretty diligent about safety, no matter what they fly.
You are 100% wrong about the use of vertical speed mode by-the-way. The CRJ really isn't happy at 410...no matter how you get there. ...and you probably won't be "fine".

I would agree with taller passengers who feel claustrofobic. But it's a very enjoyable and quiet plane. The limited number of passengers also helps to increase boarding speed.

Well, that's because it is smaller than a 737. It is in a totally different segment, the 737 is a huge plane in comparison. The Airbus A220 is also smaller than the 737, and the 220 is bigger than the CRJ. The CRJ is basically a scaled up business jet, the 737 is a scaled down 707.So, yeah, it would be hard to make it seem as big as a 737. On the other hand, the smaller size has many benefits in cost and performance, which is why people buy it.

    • @Bartonovich52

It’s where the market shifted. Those aircraft-along with the 737-600-completely disappeared because there were smaller aircraft that fit markets better.
Remember when there were 19 seat aircraft like the Metro and 1900? Or 30 seat planes like the SAAB 340, Dornier 328, and Dash 8 100/200? Or larger single aisle planes like the 757-300?
All gone because of planes like the Dash-8 Q400, the CRJ Series, the 737-800, the A320 and A321 etc etc which fit airline’s needs perfectly.

You are mistaken. The end plane produced was very different and totally different from the plans originally initiated by Lear. The Challenger was a new modern evolution. Hence why Lear couldn’t claim any credit or money’s. A Canadian marvel.

The aerodynamics of the larger 900/1000 defy logic as to weight distribution. The wings are set back, the engines tail mounted, baggage appears to be confined to the rear left side. So WHERE IS THE BALANCE??!! And yet watching operations with near max loads the planes seem to operate normally.

When you said the main competitor is the E170/190, i was like, ooh that's a nice plane. When they turn on final, you can fee l the pilots hot-dogging just a little bit. They are smaller and more nimble than the heavies, and you can tell they enjoy flying them. I bet they talk about whether it will do a barrel roll.

I have to fly on a CRJ900 American Eagle in 2 weeks. Flight is only 1.5 hr but I just found out its not even American Airlines. It's a company called Mesa Airlines. I have a bad fear of flying as it is, and now I have to put my faith & trust in a company I've never heard of and a plane that I've never been in that small. So needless to say, I'm freaking out.

I flew on one of these from Detroit to Dallas. That isn't a region. That's three regions on the most uncomfortable plane I've ever ridden on. I stuffed napkins in my ears to muffle the noise from the engines. It was a bumpy ride all the way . The Embraer I flew on was quite nice in comparison.

I never liked flying on the CRJ's. Nice enough cabin. It's the cabin windows that bother me. Unless you're a kid or short They're so low you have to stand up or look across the aisle to see out. I like the Embraer regional jets much more.

    • @justforever96
      @justforever96 2 роки тому

The alternative is to put them so high up the fuselage you can only see upwards. There is only so much you can do with a small diameter fuselage. if you put the windows at eye level, it means they will be on the upper part of the fuselage slope and will lean steeply inwards, making it hard to see down. I suspect in customer surveys they found that people found that being able to see downwards was more important than being able to see out easily.

You should make a followup episode on this, considering that Embraer actually stole the design for the E-Jet from Bombardier (some engineers can't come back to Canada or they'll be jailed).
Afterwards we eventually developped the concept into the C series, but facing brutal 125% tarifs from the Trump administration, we ended up giving it to Airbus, and it is now the A310.
But the financial strain of developping multiple aircrafts in the post 2008 crisis era led to Bombardier selling it's rail division to Alstom, and the CRJs to Mitsubishi...

thomas M tordel jr Bombardier bought the CRJ program from the Canadian government for $63 million back in the early 80s. Canadair received over a billion dollars from the Canadian taxpayer before the government sold it to Bombardier. Bombardier received tax money from the Quebec government and the Canadian government, the money was coming to an end leaving Bombardier no choice but to sell the C series or close the program down.
