    I'm getting my surgery in 4 weeks and I cannot WAIT. I know I've had this condition for at least 12 years, now that I can look at my medical records online.
    The scan with contrast was negative but my PTH has been as high as 102. It sometimes goes as low as 80 which is still too high.
    The surgeon still thinks I have an adenoma but that it's too small for the scan to detect. But he said even if there isn't an adenoma my parathyroids are overactive and at least one needs to be removed, if not more.
    I've been weak, frail, fatigued, painful, depressed and unhealthy for the majority of my life. I'm 53 now, wouldn't it something if this has been the problem for so many decades? I have such high hopes for this procedure.

      @irene Zamudio I had quite vague symptoms for a long time. After a while I got Fatigue and I forgot things all the time. I also got a depression and took medicine for that. Now I have much more energy and don't take any medication except calcium. (For rebuilding bone strength) I got an appointment for DNA analyzes because apparently I got a fault in my DNA structure meaning I'm more exposed to getting these tumors. I didn't feel the tumor and had to get a 4D CT. I suggest you go see a doctor soon. Most likely it's a benign tumor and they just remove it. Good luck😊👍

    I just had blood work done. Calcium level is 10.9 and PTH is 65. Also slightly elevated Vitamin D levels. I want to see a Endocrinologist but my doctor just wants to wait and test again later. I'm really nervous and looking for answers but my primary doctor doesn't seem to concerned.

      Please seek a second opinion. Advocate for yourself.
      Depending on your age, normal calcium levels should be under 10.
      If I feel brushed off, I find someone who listens. My primary care doctor has tested me since mid-September of last year 2022, per month each. PTH levels have been consistently high, and calcium has been high and normal range. I have scans set up for March 23rd, US Thyroid and Parathyroid, and a 4D CT with IV contrast.
      If you stay with the doctor and they retest and your calcium is still that high, please find a good endocrinologist. I was misdiagnosed with 2ndardy hyperparathyroidism. 2ndary is when your calcium levels are low and PTH levels are high. I argued with her, and she snapped at me and said she was the one with an education as an endocrinologist.
      I found the endocrinologist I've been seeing for two years now. But they were only seeing me every 3 months and testing me randomly.
      My primary care is phenomenal, and I took all my results he tested me for and was like I'm done arguing with you at this point. I want surgery.
      I'm tired of being brushed off and told it's mild or that it's really not concerning.
      I have osteopenia, hypertension, hair loss, bone pain, joint pain, and brain fog, I have a blocked kidney stone due to high calcium levels (i am having a stent placed tomorrow 3/3/23). She finally gave me a referral for a Head and Neck Surgeon.
      Stand up for yourself, love. We have to. Wishing you all the best!

    How do you find out if you have a tumor on your parathyroid?

    • @TravelingTom1
      @TravelingTom1 2 роки тому

      4D CT

    • @TravelingTom1
      @TravelingTom1 2 роки тому

      Or ask your doctor to take some BS. Your PTH (P-PTH) levels should be between 1,5 - 8,5 pmol/l. They will also do a Bone density measurement of you (DXA) and a 4D CT of your throat. You will also check your Calsium levels. Normal is 2,1 - 2,5 mmol/l.

      Blood tests of PTH levels and calcium levels would tell you if you have a tumor or not. I understood from my doctor that calcium levels decrease as you get older therefore appropriate calcium level will vary as you get older. But the pth test would be high and lab results would show that. Getting scans isn’t always ideal unless it’s a sestamibi (nuclear scan) because glands are very small and won’t always appear on other scans. I had my endocrinologist do several scans before they found an adenoma. He still wanted to just keep an eye on it. It took me taking my husband in with me and breaking down crying in his office for him to give me a referral to a surgery specialist. And he still told me he was sure that no surgeon would be willing to help me. I found a parathyroid specialist that was willing to listen to all my symptoms and review my medical records and I’m scheduled for surgery next week. Surgery is always scary no matter what kind it is, but I’m willing to do it to try to get back to my old self and live life instead of just existing because symptoms don’t allow you anything else. Unfortunately I’ve learned that parathyroid problems are not something most doctors have experience with so keep speaking up for yourself and do research. If you find your doctor isn’t listening get another opinion but just don’t give up.
