Finally a POSITIVE review! I bought the MBA M2 base model about a month ago. Coming from an HP laptop. I wanted a Mac years ago but my finance programs were not available for Mac so I stuck with PC’s. I learned from a friend that my programs CAN be run on Mac now so I began researching which one to get. Decided to go to the Apple Store and talk to someone there. Told them my needs and he narrowed my options down. I decided on this MBA M2 and I am extremely happy! It does everything I need it to do lightening fast. No regrets! Thank you for your video. You made the most sense to this non tech person without bashing the non pro user.
I love my new M2 MacBook Air. I came from a Dell XPS 14 and it was so refreshing to have a computer that just works and does everything I need it to, without being harassed and pestered by a bunch of software I didn’t ask for. Even though the XPS is a flagship laptop, from the moment I got it, it was unreliable. I had to have the motherboard replaced, so they just sent me a new laptop, and that one had a whole set of other problems. Using the M2 Air has taken the stress out of using my laptop- and the battery life is so good, it lets me really take it along with me everywhere without the constant anxiety of having to find an outlet. I’m a total convert.
Hey, would you mind telling me a bit about your experience with the M2 Air’s battery life? Battery life for me is an essential feature, and it’s what’s making me lean more towards the Air than the Pro. I was actually even considering an iPad M2, but, surprisingly, that seems to have the worst battery life of all.
Thank you so much for this review. I was sick and tired about all the other negative reviews. I have been using PC's since 1986. I just bought my FIRST Mac!, it's a Midnight Blue MacBook Air M2 base model and I'm very pleased with it. It will easily handle my needs and it looks GREAT!
Those negative UA-cam reviews were just creating click bait drama. Seems they have moved on from the negativity now looking for more views. I moved from PC to Mac in 2008 and never looked back. I’m almost certain to replace my Intel driven MacBook Pro to either the M2 Air or maybe the 14” MacBook Pro. The style and reliability of Macs is insane. We still have my unibody 2008 MacBook Pro (I switched in an SSD and new batteries just clip in with latches, no screws required - I do miss how easy it was up upgrade old Macs) which has the same style as MacBook Pros from just a few years ago. It’s still so good for productivity my son uses it for university lectures Zoom meetings, web and word but also still handles Photoshop too. Crazy that a 14 yo Mac still looks like new and performs well.
@@shred3005 Agreed! Nobody should believe in or take Max Tech seriously. I’m figuring an Air with 2 tb ssd, 16 gb ram and 10 core. A MacBook Pro with the same configuration is $600 MORE!!!! I need it for music production on location and a large iTunes library so to say a MacBook Pro is a “little more” is plain wrong and, when I need more performance in rendering, putting it on a cold plate alleviates thermal throttling.

Funny enough Google pulled this same form factor years ago with the fanless Google Pixelbook Go. It was pretty perfect but just had Chrome OS. I mean the high end model had 2 Thunderbolt ports, 16GB of RAM, 256GB SSD with a freakin’ 4K touch screen. It was beautiful! And in true black.
I got a lot of heat on another thread when I said that the new Air M2 design made the old M1 Air wedge look dated. Maybe they were owners of the M1 Air defending their purchase. They didn’t get that while I acknowledged Apple silicon transformed the Air, it was still that old look design, distinctive, but dated.
I tore myself into pieces debating between the M2 MBA, which is the machine I originally wanted, and a base 14" MBP. I knew going in that the base M2 MBA wasn't what I wanted. I ended up sticking with my original choice and config, M2 MBA 8/8 core, 16GB, 512GB, $1,600. Best Buy and Amazon teased me, made fun of me, tortured me by dropping the base 14" MBP price to $1,700 and I didn't have to wait 3 weeks for it to ship..................... Fast forward, my M2 is here, I've had it for about 3 weeks, I love it, and it's exactly what I'd hoped it would be and more. It rides with me just about everywhere, and I don't even feel it in my bag. It's arguably more portable than an iPad with a Magic keyboard/track pad case and objectively much more powerful, even in base config. The YT tech community way WAY off-base focusing on the single NAND chip SSD and thermal "issues" so early after the release. They should have focused on how it compares to the iPad Pro with a keyboard case, how it compares to Windows machines (especially for build quality) at the same price points, and how it does everything asked of it, even when pushed to the limits of the hardware.
Totally. I pre-ordered mine and didn't even consider the MBP. It was great from the second I first opened it, I was really surprised to see tech youtube piling on it. I think a lot of times big channels lose sight of what most people use computers for, luckily Apple didn't.
I've had my Macbook Air since Mid-2011. Quite excited to receive the new base model MacBook air M2 this week and get to experience the wow factor you speak of!
Went with a 2021 14 MBP. The price for my preferred config easily gets into MBP pricing territory haha, and honestly I've dealt with way heavier laptops before so the extra weight doesn't really matter to me, but the M2 Air configured properly under $1500 imo honestly is a great choice for people who can't stretch the budget. Gonna be interesting though if Apple will fill the $1500 range anytime soon. That's what I'm most interested in.
Watching this video on my my MacBook Air M2 in space grey 8/512 & I just love the performance, I am a professional dj & my main dj softwares are running so good. it remains cold all the time with a good battery life in realtime using all pro softwares. I am coming from a 2012 intel MacBook Pro & this is a huge upgrade for me without getting too heavy on pockets !
are you using serato? I'm looking to get that exact spec. I use Serato DJ pro and also run adobe audition simultaneously to record my sets (Serato virtual audio as input to audition)
I held off the M1 Air as I wanted the new form factor that the M2 Air delivered. But boy was I disappointed by the price bump over M1 and ludicrous £200 for *each* upgrade to 16gb memory & 512gb storage. So I opted for the 14” MBP, discounted from Amazon which spec for spec was *cheaper* than the M2 Air. I love it! Either get the base M2 Air or if you need more memory & storage then get the 14” MBP.
The M2 Air with upgrades isn't a very good value compared to the 14" Pro on sale, but I'm just not interested in the Pro's form factor. I know on paper it's not *that* much thicker and heavier, but it's just not as couch-able as the Air is.
Air is about the light weight, if that 0.X KG is not a problen for you then always go for Pro for better value. If cost of performance is matter then get tw brand laptop.
I love the design language, I am reminded especially with the darker colors of the black Macbook. Sure the thing didn't sell well at the time but I believe it was the better choice over the white macbook in every single way. You could still pull one of these out of your bag and it would still look fairly modern, and the materials just lasted longer. Time had proven my point back then about them. But the design language here screams modern black macbook to me. Maybe because I carefully researched and owned a few too. I remember the first aluminum macbook by the way. As awesome as that device had looked inheriting much of the pro line, the black Macbook, a 2.4 ghz model ended up being my daily for 4 years. The longest of any Mac ever. In fact up until I left the Apple ecosystem all together it still served as my (useful) backup. Now it's Dell precision and Latitude all the way for me, I am half tempted to buy one. But the upper end as the storage I/O bothers me. But while tempted it's still expensive and wouldn't exactly fit my open source workflow to boot, let alone the painfully glossy screen. Over all I think this is by far a step forward for Apple and one of their better designs over the last decade. I am still not excited about the lack of expansion. But this is Apple and somethings just never change with them.
You can buy one from Apple, and customize it/upgrade it to fit your needs. That's what I'm gonna have to do, because none of the ones in-store around here are higher than 8gigRAM and 256gigs SSD. There might have been a 512gig one at Best Buy, but still only with 8gig of RAM. I make music, so I'm gonna need AT LEAST 16 gigs of RAM if not more. But you can customize this up to 24 if I remember right, and up to a 2TB SSD.
@44MagnumHitman Hey thanks for the reply. Well the reality is places like best buy don't order and stock the higher end options because of two fold reasons. First Apple's prices for "upgrades" like ram is fairly outrageous, 2nd the customer base for such higher end options is small and Best Buy caters to the masses verses people like you and me. It's why their hardware selection is fairly mainstream only. Because they can sell that stuff in volume, they take a lot of risks with selling the expensive stuff because it doesn't move fast and theft. Places like best buy are already battling a lot of theft. Longer items sit on a shelf the more risk a company like Best buy takes. Either stolen or discounted because something better comes along.
@44MagnumHitman Honestly, it's a shame. It's not like the Dell Latitude or *gulp* Precision series of business laptops, I get why that works the way it works. You basically order them exactly the way you want/need them for a particular use. I sure do. But with Apple it's pretty much a vertical CTO. Easy selection with only about a few real options outside of ram. Seems reasonable you could still go on Best Buy and order them and yet you can't! You get the mainstream options and that's it. But I would check out other Mac sites that specialize in Macintosh hardware, they might actually have what your looking for and for a little cheaper. Maybe. We used CDW for years for that reason. Especially when it came to the G5 era of Macs. Granted, I done most of the upgrades before deployment but it was literally hundreds cheaper and got the same Applecare coverage. For non-mac techies this was an added bonus. Our graphical department still got their macs.
The insane upgrade pricing makes it less appealing - + 200 USD for additional 8GB RAM, + 200 USD for 512 GB storage (additional only 256 - nice "apple tax"), and it is dangerously close to 14 inch Pro: which has larger, mini-led, 120 Hz display (but a fan).
This is all I wanted to hear this morning! I'm using a 2015 MBA and I was torn between buying a M1 MBA and M2 MBA. Now, I've decided I'll go with a M2 MBA with 16GB of memory. Thank you, Greg!! Subscribed :)
Great work mate! I've come to realise after all these reviews this - "How much power do most people need?". Ultimately, the user experience is more important to the daily user. Cheers!
Nearly a month on a max out m2, profesional audio/video and coding, no hiccups, even 3D for arquitectural work, never a super portable laptop have ever delivered that much for me. Im keeping it.
@@AyemJen 10core/24Gb RAM/2Tb SSD, it all depends on what you consider worth it... for me its the perfect computer (if it wasnt for the notch of course) its freaking portable, quiet and powerful, what else could you desire? i had it encoding RAW (.MLV) footage for 2 days non stop and even while encoding i was still watching anime, web browsing (around 200tabs) including TOR and EMAIL always open. of course when i work at the studio i have another beast but actually I may not even need it practically anymore.
This helped a lot. I have been thinking about upgrading to this because I am currently using a 2013 MacBook Air for my business. I do program and project management for construction projects, so most of my workday revolves around things like email, interfacing with online project management software, reviewing and marking up PDFs, and basic ms office suite programs. After watching some of the other reviews, especially the ones about all the thermal issues, I was debating if I should just wait for the next MacBook Pro to come out and shell out a lot more money so I have a device that lasts long-term. As a new start up business, I need to make sure that I invest money correctly into technology that will last. I'm thinking now that this M2 MacBook Air might be a great choice for me, but I'm open to suggestions. I was planning on upgrading and not getting just the base model anyway, so would this be a good general office use machine?
You helped me decide to get the new M2 Air. My old Mac was the 2019 Intel i5 MacBook Pro, which you also encouraged me to buy at the time. Thank you very much!
Everyone was hating on the M2 MacBook Air when it came out. I took the risk and purchased it and I’m glad I did cause it’s a great laptop coming from a 2018 MacBook Air base model. I’ve been editing, doing school work, believe it or not gaming. It hasn’t heated up at all so I’m very impressed and quite shocked. Edit: I got the Midnight color and yes it does get very smuggy but I got a case for it so it doesn’t get dirty anymore. I’ve always get cases for my MacBooks so it wasn’t like I only got it for the color.
Apple needs to release that Midnight color option on the 14's and 16 inch machines. Along with the Airpods. I'm tired of that Apple White. Especially charging cables and such
You have helped me a lot (I've chosen the 512) and I am now a very happy M2 512 user, two days, I have hated the notch (as some people), but the laptop is fantastic. I migrate from an old air 11" and the entire migration process took me just 20 min Amazing! Thanks for your opinion!
I have to admit that I’ve heard about Harry’s razors since they came out but never knew about them. You’re a great pitch guy, who embraced the advertising for them with creativity. Good for you for attracting sponsors outside of the tech space. BTW - you helped me decide on buying the M2 Air for my daughter who’s now a freshman in college. Thanks for the best tech review on Apple products. Informative and enjoyable (and corny - in a good way) to watch (even through the ads).
Would the 8gb ram, 512gb ssd, 10 cpu, be good and not over heat if you just web surf, write, and only use the programs it comes with? The stores here only sells the MacBooks with 8 gigs of ram, ordering one on line is not an option, and the only way I can get the 512 storage is with a 10 cpu. I would get a Mac mini, but they only sell the MacBooks.
8gb of RAM is more than adequate for everyday tasks. 16gb of RAM is the sweet spot if you are under heavy loads such as opening a game, multiple tabs, and other programs. CPU wise, the M1 and M2 are engineered to handle loads of tasks.
Excellent review as I type this on my brand new Midnight MBA M2 😀I had a 5-year-old surface pro 4 that was starting to go. I'm glad I found your channel it really helped me make an informed decision on my first MacBook and I'm blown away by the performance and battery life. I'll use it mostly for school and occasional photo/video editing. Thanks again!
Thanks for another informative video. As someone who used both a 2014 & 2017 MacBook Pro to power multiple monitors in the home, and could run to work or seminar, then moved to a MacMini i7 in 2020 with 64GB ram running a AMD Radeon Pro WX 8200 graphics card inside a breakout box, whenever a laptop was needed, one of my old MacBook Pros would suffice. But after finding myself at the Apple store recently, old MacBook Pro in-hand and looking for a new batter with a Genius install it, the M2 MacBook Air caught my eye. Bought a base midnight blue Air instead of a new battery. For my needs (including Adobe CC), the MacMini can do all the heavy lifting, and on the rare occasion Adobe Premier, or some other hardware resource intensive application, is needed for something on the go, the Air can get'r done... eventually. I'd say it's an excellent computer if you're in the Apple ecosystem, have a desktop at home, and just need a laptop.
You have to be nuts not to get the 14 inch MBP. Its on sale. It cant be beat. Put a better computer in your bag with a superb screen. Cmon Greg. Step it up.
i'm coming from a windows 7 laptop and i can't wait to experience this one! I needed something affordable, since I'll be going to university soon, but I also wanted a solid machine that would stay with me for several years. I think i'll choose this laptop in the starlight variant. thanks for this video!
This is my problem! I want the big screen for essay writing with references open and online books etc but in no way need or want all the features of the 16mbp (or the price!)
I got the base macbook air m2 🤡! I am using it almost 3 weeks and it almost perfect for my use. Maybe I should have got the 16 gb ram version but now it’s done
I have a 2010 MacBook Pro. I teach and do some basic creative activities (recording music and writing). I occasionally game but nothing major; something like Diablo. Would it be worth my time getting the M2 with 16g Ram and 512g storage? I know its getting closer to the pro, but I do not think I need the further productivity/specs I'd get from the Pro. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Ah yes, confuse me more. I am stuck between the MacBook Air and the 14" m1pro model. I was convinced with the mbp but now you have confused me more. I kind of need the 512 gigs (ideally I would like more but I don't have that kind of money) and somewhat prefer the 16 gigs ram (though I can comprise here). If you bump, the MacBook Air up to these specs, you get very close to the price of M1 pro mbp. And that model has a better screen as well as performance. It would future proof me for nearly a decade. But like this MacBook Air just looks so goddamn cool. And this video just made me reconsider. Maybe I don't need the 16 gigs ram, and can save quite a bit of money with mba.... And maybe I wouldn't keep the laptop for a decade anyway, so, really the only advantage m1pro model has is the screen. Really confused now.
@@bilbyyful still haven't bought either yet. I decided that I will get one more year out of my old laptop. It isn't supported anymore in terms of repair but it's running alright. So that's fine.
I'm a student and all I do is programming (for 2-3) hours in a row and presenting my screen and explaining content for another (2-3) hours in a row. So, which mac is the best for me considering the usage and battery consumption.?
Apple made the M2 MacBook Air for me. I do not have an OS preference. I'm comfortable with any Linux flavors, Windows and MacOS. As a guy who has to travel quite often I'm leaning towards thin, light laptop devices with some punch to do medium photo/video editing among other tasks on the go.
Amazing video. I would like everyone opinion please, I am looking at upgrading my old 2015 MacBook Pro to a new MacBook with M2 chip. I can’t decide between the MacBook Pro m2 or MacBook Air m2. I edit footage for UA-cam at max 1440p 60 fps. I watch regular UA-cam and other general processes like Spotify etc. I will edit on the go and plug it into my gaming monitor. What would you all suggest is the right model for my needs ?
Please let your valuable Fans know when a larger screen (16-17 inch) display will be available on a M2 MacBook Air will be available and OF COURSE YOUR Review of it!!
"According to recent reports, both devices equipped with Apple M2 chip - MacBook Air M2 and Pro M2 - face severe overheating issues." > top hit on google when asking if macbook air overheats without the fan. Did you see any issues with overheating? For me, i think electronics in computers get super hot you can fry an egg on the CPU, so if it hotter climates a fan is a must just to ensure overheating issues are kept at bay, but curious to hear what you expierenced?
Great review. A bunch of people all mad because the base model's ssd is “slower” than the upgraded models. Like, most people won't even notice the diference… it's a much prettier and slightly improved M1 👍🏻
Owned the M2 for 1 month and have horizontal and vertical lines flickering on the screen, making it impossible to use. I was just replacing a M1 MacBook that had the same display issue within months of buying. It was sent in for repair twice and it failed a third time right after the warranty expired. This was a new laptop! Apple did nothing for me. They refused to issue a new laptop to replace the lemon I bought and since the warranty expired they expected me to pay to have it fixed again!!! So stupidly I bought an M2 thinking the problems were with the M1 only. Nope! I have the exact same issue with the new model!!! Buyer beware... because Apple isn't owning up to the issues of the M Series MacBooks. I've spent almost $3,000 for 2 MacBook Airs that are now unusable junk! I've wasted so much time sending in for repairs, reloading apps and being without a computer while they try to fix their issues, which they can't. Unless they make this right I'll never trust Apple again! Good Luck to you if you buy one. As a long time Apple buyer I now recommend you don't.
if you do want to game while you have this M2 mac i have used it while at school to play on Xbox game pass and it actually works great as well just a heads up
i would look into the 16-inch macbook pro! has the size laptop you’re looking for, with the same/better processor! personally, any macbook air is meant for people looking for everyday usage and not advance use. yes, the air allow advance use, but loads of people go for the macbook pro when looking for that sort of stuff! but everyone is different and have different needs!
I got macbook air m2 to use Photoshop and Imovie and evenly Adobe Premiere it's work laptop they bough for me 256GB model petty of fast for me coming from 2015 Macbook Air damn it's slow know days.
I still don’t understand the attraction to MagSafe … it is a proprietary port. I’d rather not have a charger that only works on one device. USB C is universal and everyone keeps crying for Apple to incorporate it into the iPhone and remove the proprietary Lightning port. I’d rather have 3 USB type C ports and no MagSafe. The “safety” of the MagSafe seems to be of dubious value to me. Why the contradictory opinions with MagSafe?
You can’t compare battery life to an iPhone bro. A cellular radio is way more draining in addition to Wi-Fi in addition to Bluetooth so I mean that’s like apples to Volvos type comparison
Great review! I'm pretty much sold on the new Airs, I just wish they had kept the gold color from the previous model. I do dig the midnight finish, it definitely stands out for sure, but I think I'm gonna have to go with the starlight finish instead!
I may talk about this more in a future video, but if i was going for pure portability i would pick the Air. What i like most about the MacBook pro though is the display and speakers.
512gb off the floor at Best Buy is the one to get but base model does just fine if you can wait order through apple save the $100 bucks and get more Ram with the extra.
Sorry bro I tried Harry’s and those blades are not aligned properly and they don’t cut properly. More blades does not equal a better shave. I see to use mail Ty blades all the time. No more.
Appreciate the Info - if the Air is “enough” in terms of performance for light video editing etc. - would you swap it out with the 14” Pro (if you want to get lighter) or what until the next iteration of the MacBook - even the rumored 12”? I normally dock my Pro …. THANKS
Some questions. 1) Have you edited this video with MBAir M2? 2) How many time did you spent for rendering it? 3) What software did you use for this task (rendering). 4) What was the original resolution and fps of the video clips. Thanks.
Why? I’m thinking to change my Intel MacBook Pro and I’m trying to understand if it is better buying an M2 Air or a 14” M1 Pro (different performances and price).
Henson RK razor blows Harry’s and the others away. Sorry I don’t work for them either. I’ve just used them both. And Harry’s literally cut my skin raw. Because their blades weren’t aligned properly and the angle is all wrong. For me they are just no go.
"Thank you so much for watching, and I will see you all in the next video. Take care everyone." I miss the Greg catchphrase - bring it back! It's your calling card, and it's wholesome, like how Mr. Rogers would walk inside and put on a cardigan. Take care everyone.
The premise of these types of videos is that the watcher can only buy or only wants one computer, but there are scads of us out here who already have a pro Macbook and just want a cheap, light, knock around computer to add to their more serious laptop.
I still use a macbook pro 2015 intel based and it’s sooo horible and the new models are just too expensive hopefully after years at least i could by macbook pro m10
If i did get a m2 MacBook air i was wanting 16 gb of ram but the slow ssd sucks so that would have to be a 512 gb ssd for the faster drive. Might as well get the m1 MacBook air or the newer MacBook air that is coming in the first quarter of 2023. Plus it is going to have a new 15 inch screen!

Tx for this comment bro
Totally. I pre-ordered mine and didn't even consider the MBP. It was great from the second I first opened it, I was really surprised to see tech youtube piling on it. I think a lot of times big channels lose sight of what most people use computers for, luckily Apple didn't.
You made my last decision easier to get a m2 MacBook air, mostly for writing. Thank you.
I hope you love it!
I just ordered the 2020’ MacBook Pro 13.3 M1 - 8 gigs Ram 256 SSD on Best Buy for $949. It’s $350 off right now. I’m upgrading from a 2011 iMac
I've had my Macbook Air since Mid-2011. Quite excited to receive the new base model MacBook air M2 this week and get to experience the wow factor you speak of!
i have a 2016 mac pro. is the m2 much faster than your 2011 mac?

2017 MacBook Air i5 never crashed in me🤷♂️
The 14” mackbook pro m1 has been on sale at Best Buy for almost a week for $1599 USD
What the hell is that stutter at 1:43? Paying $1500 and still getting stuttering performance, jesus
Don't discredit the gaming performance, this thing is a better gaming laptop than my old gaming laptop (at least for what I like to play)
I’m going to wait till Jan end. If Apple announces the 14/16 M2Pro, prices should drop for M2 and 14 MBP.
999 on best buy rn
I bought it for gaming. And it can game well. Im playing lol, cs go, hearthstone, wow. No problem. And no fans 🙏

@@PearComputingDevices That makes sense. And I agree
That’s the unfortunate problem with this device…😵💫
Exactly!!
Here in the US the difference is pretty big. For the config I’d want (16gb 1tb) it’s a 500$ difference

Hi. May I ask what is the specs of your m2 air? I'm planning to buy one soon. Not sure if it's worth it to upgrade both the memory and the storage
Hey, I am using M2 air for 2 months, I am business developer, so it perfectly fits to my activities. 512 gb with 16 gb ram, very good choice!
base model would suit your needs too.
After watching 10 other videos, you were the only one to answer my questions! Thank You!!!
Hey, what case exactly did u purchase?

Apple needs to release that Midnight color option on the 14's and 16 inch machines. Along with the Airpods. I'm tired of that Apple White. Especially charging cables and such
You have helped me a lot (I've chosen the 512) and I am now a very happy M2 512 user, two days, I have hated the notch (as some people), but the laptop is fantastic. I migrate from an old air 11" and the entire migration process took me just 20 min Amazing! Thanks for your opinion!
Is 512 variant performance good?
Have u faced any lag?
Ok. Thanks for clearing that up.
Would you say it’s good to get it at 16gb ram/ 512gb ssd. Or is 8gb 512gb ssd fine
Excellent review as I type this on my brand new Midnight MBA M2 😀I had a 5-year-old surface pro 4 that was starting to go.

So what was you choice ?!
@@bilbyyful still haven't bought either yet. I decided that I will get one more year out of my old laptop. It isn't supported anymore in terms of repair but it's running alright. So that's fine.
