Rigging a Safety String on a Shaft Bar or Half-Heddle Stick

  • When setting up a Swedish-style loom for weaving, safety strings on the wooden shaft bars can be critical for keeping Texsolv heddles where they belong. We explore a couple of uses for the strings - particularly for double-harness weavers - and demo a nice method for tying them through the holes at the ends of the bars.

    I love your clear instructions! One question though: how do you use the safety string? Do you thread them into the heddles?

      Good question. The best thing to do is rig the strings over the heddles. Look carefully around the 30-second mark: you can see how the heddles are trapped between the length of string and where it goes into the hole on the shaft bar. Hope that answers your question!
