Ironic how a bigger number sometimes doesn't always give better performance. The 7800x3d is not only performing better than the 7900x3d, but also is consuming less power

    • @Daraneys
      @Daraneys Місяць тому +11

Thats because 7900x3d is a higher tier CPU, 6 exclusive productivity cores on the 2nd ccd, so 4 additionnals cores compared to the 7800x3d, with a larger cache (128mo vs 96mo) and higher frequency, suitable for both gaming and intensive works.

      Dual ccd vs 1 ccd.
That also means the heat is spread over a larger area so you should be able to get slightly better temps. Downside is you have 6=6 cores not 12 so latency from ccd to ccd is a factor. Then again only 6 out of 12 cores have the X3D memory because only 1 ccd has it stacked. I know for a fact there were those with the X3D on both ccd but I am guessing it was too expensive?

@@Daraneys Tu te trompes. Les deux processeurs possèdent le même cache. La différence entre les deux processeurs qui cause cette perte de performance est que le 7900x3D n’est pas un vrai processeur 3D. No think of the 7900 as having 6x performance cores for gaming and 6 efficiency cores more for productivity. When Gaming the 7900 has to use its 6 performance cores ONLY on the one CCD, where the 7800X3d has 8 cores for gaming. Over simplified but close enough.

The only reason you'd want to pick the 7900X3D over 7800X3D is you want best of both worlds sacrificing efficiency in games for more cores and productivity. Another reason is discount, I've seen the 7900X3D at just $20 more than the 7800X3D and only then is it worth getting

To expand on the @@Deathscythe91 answer: It used to be that the 7800X3D was even faster than the 7950X3D even though the latter one had more cores, but the scheduler has vastly improved over the past period and another reviewer known as Hardware Unboxed has found that the 7950X3D is now slightly faster than the 7800X3D in gaming workloads, assuming you're using the most recent firmware and chipset as well as a fully updated Windows 11. That said, the 7950X3D is so much more expensive than the 7800X3D that the couple of frames you gain aren't worth the hundreds of dollars you pay more. The 7900X3D is still slower because it simply has fewer cores with additional L3 cache.

Depends on your resolution and graphics card. I have a 13600kf and 3080Ti running at 4K, 3080 runs at 99-100% usage all the time, no amount of CPU horsepower upgrade would change my frame rate. But if I was running 1080p or 1440p then I could upgrade my CPU for more fps as the 3080 would be capable of more frames at these resolutions beyond what my CPU could process. I suspect a 4090 would be a similar story for me at the moment too. The jump to 4K is massive compared with 1440p. 1440p = 3.7 million pixels 4K = 8.3 million pixels. 1080p = 2 million.

7900x3d is way faster in productivity, thanks to his multi cores perfomance (and larger cache) that completely annihilate the 7800x3d. But in 4K, its much bound to GPU, so you will notice < 1% perfomance difference between all high tier CPU.

It isn't in this case, simply because you have only 6 cores available on 7900x3d, while the 7800x3d has all 8 available. This is because the 7900x3d uses two CCDs (7800x3d has only one CCD, with 8 cores), each having 6 cores (total 12). In games, the CCD with 3D V-Cache is used, while the other one is disabled, leaving you only 6 cores + tiny amount of extra latency (if more than one CCD is built-in). This is the reason, why everyone says, that you should never get the 7900x3d.

A lot of people forgot that this video was done by assuming Stock settings on both CPU.
You can always make 7900X3D equally as fast as 7800X3D in gaming by *Manually* locking the Threads of the Game process to the X3D Cores on the 7900X3D and ignoring the non X3D Cores
    OR
By locking certain cores on 7900X3D from BIOS and it eventually performs the same like 7800X3D
I personally go with the 1st method because by doing so, the Game process is ensured to run on the X3D chiplet, while everything else of Background Tasks are running on traditional chiplet
No Overclocking needed. Only Manual Threads assigning to the Game Process because this video is showing Automatic (stock) Threads assigning to all games process.

Due to chiplet design the 7900X3D can have only 6 cores use the extra chache at once. It's effectively a 7600X3D with double the cores. The 7800X3D has a different design and all cores can make use of the extra cache.

NOTICE: The 7900X3D is running the games on the non-3D cores. Games default to using the fastest (highest-frequency) cores to run games on, and since the mixed chips (7900X3D and 7950X3D) have the non-3D cores running at a higher frequency than the 3D cores, games default to using them even thought they're slower than the 3D cores are in games. You can force the game to use the 3D cores by underclocking the non-3D cores to 100Mhz lower than the 3D cores, around 4.8 Ghz or something. This totally solves the problem.

You're right.... but the 7900x3d clocks to around 4975MHz (4.975GHz) It needs the XBox Game Bar to run mostly right, and lasso to really run right.

It's seem you've missed the point of this video, this is a CPU comparison, you run these kind of test at the lowest possible resolution as you literally don't want the GPU to become a factor at play.
If you'd run the same test at e.g. 4K the actually difference(the fps) between these CPU would be less as the GPU becomes more loaded(occupied) the CPU instead has to wait for the GPU.
