Where has this man been hiding?? He has a brand new fan, me! My favorite songs are the Sinatra songs of the 60's, which was when I was working, and sang many of those songs, but Julian Ovenden is MUSICAL material, for big sound and great audiences, since he has the presence, volume and poise that projects out to large audiences. I will certainly look for more of his work. He reminds me a bit of the late, great Robert Goulet, but also another English crooner who is also a fave of mine, Matt Monro. Bravo, Julian O., thanks, and we hope to hear much more of you!
It's too bad this isn't 1945. Julian would have been put under contract at MGM in a heartbeat. I could only imagine how many great movie musicals they would have put him in
I love the way that Julian at the beginning segues from • the introductory verse by Jerome Kern (for 'Look For The Silver Lining') to, • the chorus of the Charles Chaplin song (from 'Limelight) 'Smile' at 0:36 then • to the beautiful Leonard Bernstein piece (from 'On The Town) 'We'll Catch Up Some Other Time' at 2:04 • then back to 'Smile' at 3:03 Truly superb.
+john wells I remember him as a doctor in 'The Royal'. He is a very talented musical show tune performer and stage singer. His rendition of Sondheim's 'Being Alive' is one of my favourites.
jasminderpinder Indeed a man of many talentswith a very nice personality. Can I recomment to you a super version of "If You Go Away" withthe backdrop of many scenes from Foyle's War. I'm sure you will enjoy this song.
+john wells one can also listen to the version without all that extra dialogue. Loved that show. He was in seasons 4 and 5 of Downton Abbey. He's a pretty fantastic actor, it's always nice to see him in good thought provoking things.
Wonderful to see that beautiful face! Guess he's getting on like the rest of us so not as much breathe as he used to have! He was marvelous earlier this year at the New York Philharmonic's concert production of "Show Boat" at Lincoln Center. Are there any new movies or plays announce for him?
Juman Alexander he appears more than i thought he would be, but i know if you're a big fan of Julian's as i am and probably you are, too, it's never enough, lol. I'm happy he was chosen to sing these songs as it could've been sadder had he not been the one to sing.
+Juman Alexander Actually i think the emphasis should've been mainly on the stars who passed away so it's surprising though i like Julian Ovenden, that he was even shown to be singing as much as he was, i suppose you would've liked closeups on Julian, is that what you meant?
almost a lazy loungelike voice disguising this young man,s vocal range all the more appealing as he sings this on his terms with no attempt to make this ol tune young again
The safest place in this world is doing the will of God. Abode with those who are still in those who still dressed in earthy clothes. The B. A. Christian by the grace of God wears a robe of righteousness not their own, and yet it is theirs by right for Christ won that fight with Satan who is still hatin what Jesus loves. Smile Jesus gave was so matter you wouldn't recognize it, but He recognizes you, for His love is beautifully true! Come as you are for He's not far from anyone of us. What's the fuss about the pandemic? Jesus died, Jesus Arose, He's Coming Back! Strike the pose Even so Come Lord Jesus!
Juan Carlos Tello what? he sings these songs very well but i'm a big fan of Julian's so he can do no wrong in my opinion. Anyways he just keeps looking and singing better and better in every video.
Juan Carlos Tello I think it's interesting that you find him too nasal and yet someone else thinks his voice is a bit gravelly sounding, i think he sounds just fine, but I love Julian, his hair looks different here but i love it, i think he's looking younger and cuter, i can't get enough of Julian on youtube, wish there was a DVD of him in a Broadway musical revival, not especially fond of the 'newer' or lesser known French musical he's seen in some videos here, can't remember the name of it.
I think it also depends on whether the song he is singing suits his voice....eg...I love when he sings Make Believe from Show Boat.....it was only gravelly when sang from Oklahoma...possibly because I am so used to a Gordon MacRae / Howard Keel type of voice? Not sure how to explain this well....
organicskating i haven't heard MacRae or Keel sing these two songs so i cannot compare them with Julian's rendition. I think everyone has their favourite singers and i know that when i hear a song for the first time i'll usually like that singer's rendition or feel sentimental, but a good song to me will usually sound very good no matter who sings it. MacRae and Keel are excellent singers so i'm sure their rendition of these songs i'd like very much, too! I also find that singing live doesn't always come out as well or it's different from a recorded song done in a studio.
There's so much feeling in Julian's voice - perfect for this sombre occasion.
Mr. Ovenden sings so beautifully I’m tearing up just watching him.
Julian Ovenden has a voice that's unforgettable! He sang "Smile" with such power and breathtaking!
The wonderful, multi talented Julian Ovenden.
Julian is Supercalaftic So So good to be able to hear his great voice ♥️💥!!!🎼🎶🎵

The comment below is so true. MGM would have grabbed him up and stared him in many musicals. He and Sierra Burgess are particularly good together!
Complete professional and real talent
impossibly talented and handsome to boot -I would love to hear him sing opera .
Wow - one of my favourite singers - a wonderful rendition of this old song.
Julian Ovenden sempre me emociona! Grande performance!
!
very nicely sung by Julian, love both songs, very moving tributes!
Julian has been cast as Emile Debeque in South Pacific for July-August 2020 at Chichester Festival Theater
Maybe Julian will be in the 2021 cast since this years festival is not happening.
Love this guy he brought class to Downton , Foyle’s War and the Proms with the equally wonderful John Wilson Orchestra

And where is Julian now? Wish he’d come to California’! My new favorite.
Love Julian!’
And beautiful!
woooow Julian Ovenden, the best of the best!!!!!!
Such a terrific rendition of this great song.
I refer to Julian as a smokey voiced, scrappy voiced tenor. He is wonderful.

Devron Conrad great
Where is he now? 2018?? Love him!

Who knew???? Watched hm in Downton Abbey and Foyle's War. Never dreamed he had such a lovely singing voice along with being very nice to look at!!
Outstanding ❤️.
Its such a great arrangement from his Golden Age Musical Voice n lush choral backing. In the same breath adds to profoundly sad lyrics. Love this
Wonderful voice
Until yesterday I only knew Julian as Andrew Foyle in Foyle's War. Never realised he had such a vocal talent. Thanks very much.

Forgot to add that if you need to hear this version you have to type Foyles War before the song title.

////We obviously share the same opinion of this talented man, Nice to know there is still some sanity in show business.

Yes! Just love him!!

Superbe!!
Julian is amazing as always but he doesn't appear alot in this video.. Sad
Juman Alexander Are you nuts? He's in every second of the video.

JULIAN OVENDEN NINTERPERETA "! SMILE " GRAVAÇAO FEITA EM ABRIL DE 2O015
But no photo honoring Charlie Chaplan?
Didn't Charlie Chaplin write this.
I believe Charlie Chaplin wrote it
Yes he did though not the lyrics. He wrote the melody for his film Modern Times.
Though it's a compilation with Some Other Time by Leonard Bernstein for the musical On The Town, which was cut from the Hollywood film version.
What happened to the sound synch?
Such bad camera work on this!! It should have been about the people it was so difficult to see the tributes
I wonder if there's any smart people who know who wrote this sing!
Charlie Chaplin

lets just modulate the shit out of everything, can we throw my train wreck marriage in there too please cliff in tokyo
Beautiful voice but I don't think this song suits him at all.
Smile belongs to Nat King Cole.

I don't like this at all, he's to nasal!
Does anybody thinks that too?
Juan Carlos Tello He's okay, but his voice is a bit gravelly sounding?
