This was awesome! I watched this in the past and hardly understood a thing. Watched again after working at Spanish for a while and feeling like I have hardly made progress, I was suprised how much I have learned without noticing it. I understood 98% of what was being said. This felt so uplifting watching because I feel progross. Muchas gracias por tu ayuda y este video!
That was very useful thanks. I was only able to understand about ten percent of the conversation when listening to it. However, when I read the subtitles, I would say that I understood ninety percent. This is a problem I seem to have at the moment, whereby I can read Spanish fairly well but have trouble tracking it when it it spoken. No sooner have I worked something out when it has moved on, and on and on again. Do you have any advice for me?
Your question is very interesting, and it deserves a more detailed answer than what I'll give you here, so I'm going to post a video answering it (I also find a lot of people in your situation). This will be on Friday, so be on the look for it. For now I'll tell you you should do 10 minutes a day at least of listening (not like music in the background, but actually paying attention and looking for words). Having a transcript or subtitles is helpful, so have those handy until you're able to be comfortable without them. Look for slow material or make the videos slower on UA-cam. (It gives you the option). Well... Like I said, it's a very interesting topic, and I'll have more suggestions on Friday! Gracias nicedog1! - Maria. 🙂

I have recently decided to improve my understanding and use of Spanish. I started learning Spanish 21 years ago as an Immigration Inspector in Laredo, Texas. While I developed some proficiency, it was primarily useful for work related conversations. I learn all the questions needed but not all the possible answers. I always had fellow Inspectors who were native speakers of Spanish available to assist. After seven years I transferred to the northern border and began to lose much of what I had learned. Now retired, I have the time to develop a better understanding and ability with Spanish. It has only been two months since I began using UA-cam and other resources to increase my proficiency. I find your videos particularly helpful. Thank you for all you do for all of us.

I’m here because I’m in Peru and struggling to understand some Peruvians. Listening to this conversation I could hear everything clearly and understood most of it. I thought I’d struggle without subtitles. In the quiz I was surprised to get all the questions right. I’ll be doing more, it’s great practice and builds confidence.
There is no difference between the sounds "b" and "v" in Latin American accents. However, in Spain is different. "V" sounds just like in English, it is stronger than "B" sound.

I'm from Texas too. Many Mexicans here are from northern Mexico and they speak fast. Mexicans from other regions don't speak quite as fast. They speak fast in Medellín too, but not quite as fast as norteños from Mexico.

At what speed are they talking at? I'm not at the point to listen to just voices but I was reading the subs and I surprised myself that I can understand what they're talking about. Were you guys speaking slower than usual?
+Monster With Eyes It's interesting, someone else asked a similar question so I watched the video again to see if we were speaking slower... I don't think so. What we are doing though is enunciating better. I also noticed we make pauses to think about what we will say next... Maybe that helped too? The topics we talk about are also basic ones like personal information questions and such... Still you should be proud of yourself that you understood it. Other videos in the future might be more challenging, so keep on practicing! 😊

I'm from Texas too. Many Mexicans here are from northern Mexico and they speak fast. Mexicans from other regions don't speak quite as fast. They speak fast in Medellín too, but not quite as fast as norteños from Mexico.
Colombians speak much more slowly than Mexicans, indeed this helps the learner. Colombians speak so beautifully.

At what speed are they talking at? I'm not at the point to listen to just voices but I was reading the subs and I surprised myself that I can understand what they're talking about.

+Monster With Eyes It's interesting, someone else asked a similar question so I watched the video again to see if we were speaking slower... I don't think so. What we are doing though is enunciating better. I also noticed we make pauses to think about what we will say next... Maybe that helped too? The topics we talk about are also basic ones like personal information questions and such... Still you should be proud of yourself that you understood it. Other videos in the future might be more challenging, so keep on practicing! 😊
Yeah I just read that persons comment too, what you say does make sense. I am pretty proud haha, I honestly surprised myself. I just found this channel through reddit so I've subbed for more :).
By the way, do you have a video about the word "que" to me it seems like a magical word that only spanish speaking natives know how to use haha. I've only memorised certain phrases it's used in.

I try to listen to Colombian Spanish conversations because it is very clear and slow. This video is so helpful! You can tell that Luisa is a teacher because she says it slowly so you have time to process a different language.
