I was a kid in the 80s, and I LOVED my cheesy horror movies!! What a great, short lived genre!! You've really done it here...very well! It just IMMEDIATELY took me right back to my childhood!! Right on bro!!
It's funny bc it was seeing Carpenter perform his own scores live that convinced me to completely rethink my approach to live music and delve back into the world of Synths & Hardware. As a bass station / microkorg user for 3+ years now, this feels like coming full circle. Congrats and Thank You for this
ennovandengraaf thanks for watching! I wanted to show that this works for horror, not necessarily just Carpenter. This Kubrick scene is one of my favorites. Hopefully I got the point across!
I got some serious Stranger Things vibes from that. Sounded incredible. Would you do this tutorial but for something like FL studio? Or do you only do analog
Vekta thanks for watching!! I actually have a Stranger Things tutorial here on UA-cam! Unfortunately though I don’t have FL Studio or any DAW. However, most VSTs have similar terminology. If you want, let me know what program in FL you use and I’ll try to help you through there!
@@keepsynthin3223 Ah gotcha. I just tried recreating your bass sound with the Synth 1 plugin and although its close its still a bit gritty and doesn't have that clean reso sound yours does. Admittedly I'm still a noob when it comes to actual synth sound design, this was probably the first time I had really tried to start from scratch to make my own sound
Vekta Hmmm...that’s something you’ll see with a lot of VSTs. I recommend using the free VST (.dll for Windows) “OB-Xd” by Datsounds. It’s free and it sounds really good. I used it in my video “windy.” for the majority of the synth sounds. You can easily recreate any patch on my analog synths in OB-Xd. Again, if you want a sample of what it sounds like, check out the video “windy.” I hope this helps and let me know if it works for ya!!
Ok for starting out I am thinking of minilogue bass station or jd xi?? What would be the differences I guess I know the minilogue can do quite a bit but the bass station is cheaper I'm not sure lol
Mickeyliv 1986 first off, thanks for watching!! I've yet to try any of the Roland synths but I love the Minilogue at the price point. This is in my opinion the best beginner synth there is. The oscilloscope helps you learn about wave shapes and filters while still being a very nice sounding synth. Let me know what you think!
Andy Jacob sorry it wasn’t clear! they should be in the same key for more melodic passages! the bassline really accentuates the notes in the top line. in halloween, the bass is the lower note of the top repeating line. does that make sense?
@@keepsynthin3223 yeah. So at the end you add drum loop to it and it also has a john carpenter vibe. Id like to see how you do that part of it as well.
May McDonough ah I’m afraid I’m not the best person to ask because i don’t have the necessary equipment. Check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/PP7nAOJ5gXE/v-deo.html. Carpenter’s drums are usually a LinnDrum or similar drum machine clocked to a sequencer. That video and the channel SynthMania on UA-cam do some great examples on that. Sorry I couldn’t be of much help! But thanks anyways!!!
VALIS Machine if this is your first synth, I’d go for the minilogue to get a little bit of everything. If you just want a really nice low end, go for the Bass Station

I really like demonstrations like these. We want more ;)
amazing, was looking for this. Would like to see more John Carpenter style synth play...

daaaaaaaaaaaaaaam!!!!! Super dude!!!
Wait... this is Kree Nakoorie in a synth 80's style? xD 5:09
I can hear an eerie organ in there too! Great Video, I love your channel!
good videos and tutorial, love carpenter and the bass station
Great video! Agree with everything. Track sounds great at the end.
Hi Felipe. GREAT example of sounding like John Carpenter! How would we get hold of you? My buddy and I would love to talk to you about music, man.
This was actually pretty good!
Please don't stop doing these tutorials. They are very useful
69conejero thanks for watching!! If you have a request, leave it here in the comments and I'll try my best to do it!!
Great!!! By the way it works pretty good with the scene from Shining. Thanks!!!
Awesome tutorial, John Carpenter synth play is sick and so are yours !
what about the drums?
Well done! Killing tune (pun intended!)
when you alter the filter and mod of the sequence does the minilogue store those changes to the sequence?
Only finding this now - An excellent walkthrough, thank you very much
AWESOMEEEEEEE
Nice tutorial, but why Kubrick movie scenes with Carpenter music?

I wanna hear what the Goosebumps theme would sound like John Carpenter style.
Hey I really love what you do could we chat about some synth stuff like your tutorials as such with Halloween creations
This is so awesome would love to collaborate with you on my upcoming project WHEN IT HAPPENS
PLUMSTER1122 ™️ thanks! That sounds awesome man!! Keep me posted at my email tornadofelipe32@comcast.net
Type of snyth you're using?
You deserve a sub
Very nice demo. Have someone check your text before you post though.
You have some really great videos. Keep up the good work
Volca Sample thanks for watching them!!
Thanks i was looking for those bass sounds
Love your video!

Perfect, mate!
Now do one on making john carpenter beats.
May McDonough thanks for watching!! Would you mind being more specific? What do you mean by beats?
@@keepsynthin3223 yeah. So at the end you add drum loop to it and it also has a john carpenter vibe. Id like to see how you do that part of it as well.
@@keepsynthin3223 er 8 guess theres not drum loop in this one. But carpenter does have it in some stuff and id love to see a good tutorial on that

gotta love com truise
Awsome!!!
This is absolutely brilliant.
Nice VHS effects :)
can you get a similar bass sound on the minilogue? or is bass station where its at?
I'm trying to decide what to buy first.
VALIS Machine if this is your first synth, I’d go for the minilogue to get a little bit of everything. If you just want a really nice low end, go for the Bass Station
thanks dude, went with the minilogue to start me off. Enjoying it.
Great vid. Subbed
Nicely done!
Dude, retitle the video
Suzuki Halwende to what?
@@keepsynthin3223 "How To Sound Like John Carpenter"
Suzuki Halwende alright if it’s clearer that way
Fun fact, Halloween is in 5/4
